  1. Hawkins has been good for over a decade. I figure he's more likely to improve than Suppan or Hoffman, given his velocity. I'm also not sure we ever saw the real David Riske. So both could help a lot
  2. TheCrew, I still think of how I preferred Loretta's steady glove to Valentin's rangy, error-prone glove. Guys like Loretta and Counsell were told they weren't big league Shortstops, but they've fared just fine there. That's why I personally don't like saying "this kid can't play Shortstop--he's a 2nd baseman"
  3. Weeks has always been awful with throws when he has to cover 1st. It's always been that way. If the bunt is towards third (up the line), for some reason he leaves his left foot on the bag, leading himself right into the runners. His footwork has always been poor
  4. nice catch there, 'stach. nice approaches by Brewers' hitters tonight...being content with singles instead of always swinging for the fences. I've always thought the teams that tried for singles and doubles wound up hitting homers, while teams that try for homers strikeout. Pitchers often times get more upset by bloopers and bleeders than crushed homers. And Manny threw his fastball with command AND a purpose today. When he does, few can touch his stuff.
  5. YoungGeezy...no idea on Jones' velocity. They said 91-93 last year as a starter, but it could be more as a reliever. Also, he wasn't walking many in AA, so I wonder if the early AAA walks were just because AAA hitters are more advances and have tighter strikezones. If so, hopefully he can adjust. But for a guy known for his pitchability with multiple pitches as a 19-year old, I wonder if his curve and change are ok still
  6. man, I really think we should call him Dusty Macha. Parra hasn't really stretched his arm out. He arguably shouldn't have started the 6th...even then, he definitely should have been pulled after one walk. But by wanting to keep Manny in until Rasmus had batted, he pushed him past 100 pitches. Seriously...why take a bullpen member who obviously has run out of gas, and ask him to throw to 2 unnecessary batters JUST so he doesn't have to bring in a lefty to face the lefty? To me, Macha obviously doesn't care about Gallardo and Parra's arms, but we've known he's reckless with them for over a year now.
  7. TheCrew07, I asked before, but don't think it was answered...where was Cline last year? How did he suddenly become good? I think they skipped Lawrie past A+ for the same reason they used to skip some pitchers past High Desert.
  8. hmmm...to be made on Tuesday. That could mean a lot of things. Is that when Riske's rehab is done?
  9. I may not know a lot about these guys this year, but I always like the concept of HS pitchers. I think we need some power bats and arms this year, and--for once--we need to lay off drafting 5 catchers and 6 CF's. Still, if we have 1 more pitching dominant draft (that'd be 3 straight), it'd allow a focus on hitters the next few years
  10. I don't want fast to the big leagues. I want the best pitcher. Kyle Peterson was fast to the big leagues. Yet Mark Rogers may have a much longer big league career.
  11. Allie would be a great pick, especially if coddled like Lintz and Odorizzi. Lots of time the first few years building arm strength, repeating delivery, etc. 2010 Rookie ball, 2011 EST and A (or just A), 2012 A+ or AA, 2013 AA/AAA.
  12. wow....Suppan has hit 91 and 92 this inning! I don't know if he's seen that velocity since the Clinton administration
  13. I'd rather have Gennett finish the year in A, then skip to AA
  14. I don't know, Davis' pace for 100+ K's is always troubling. I really was excited for Krieger last year, but he hasn't been playing after surprisingly not making a full season club to open the year.
  15. Good for Heether, who profiles as AAA depth at this point. Perhaps he can one day have the career that Scutaro has had thus far
  16. I just hope the guy has 2+ pitches AND velocity
  17. yes, that's true that he didn't pitch in winning efforts. But I'd happily take Anthony Young now despite his personal losing streak of something like 28 games
  18. ouch, bad call by 3b ump, poor throw from McGehee, and little league effort on routine hop from Fielder
  19. Colby, does he project as simply a reliever, or is he yet another of those T-Rat pitchers that was thrust into the pen due to their perceived depth at starting pitcher?
  20. Colby, any idea what Lamontage throws? He's been closing very well.
  21. can't complain about the starters failing to go deep into games when you're going to pull them early
  22. yep, you guys said it. We pulled Bush with 86 pitches to go to the battered pen. i know it's hot, but I hate the momentum changes that Macha does when he takes effective pitchers out
  23. TheCrew, it's also 4 straight starts of 6 or more innings. I'm sure the Brewers would love to be able to move some of these guys up. Heckathorn might be a candidate to pitch the whole year in A, then jump to AA next year
  24. some nice arms tonight. Plus, TBD has really dealt throughout his career in the minors.
