  1. Al, Lucroy is mashing in the toughest park in the minors. He's supposed to be sound defensively. decent backup? His major league equivalence is likely as good as some backups in the big leagues, only he's still in A ball developing
  2. wow, Frederickson with the wildness and the 5 allowed stolen bases, yet with a different pitcher on the mound Fryer was 2 for 2 in gunning down runners. Odorizzi will probably get stretched out to 5 innings, but then will hit Helena. What's interesting is that we've already had 2 pitchers from the '08 draft reach A ball (Frederickson, Bowman...any others?). We could wind up with 2-3 more there, too.
  3. I really am a huge Salome and Brantley fan, but I'd much rather one of them goes than Green or Lucroy. Green is looking like the 3b in 3 years, while Lucroy would either be great (very polished) or good fodder for a trade one he's in AAA
  4. wow, 10 errors for the AZ Brewers. Yikes!
  5. Just thought to look at Mercedes' stats, and his last 10 outings have mostly been good. But here are his June/July splits: June 6 games 3.93 ERA 18.1 IP 16 H 1 BB 22 K July 2 games 0.82 ERA 11.0 IP 6 H 1 BB 5 K It appears that the talented youngster may be turning a corner.
  6. Scarpetta with the pro-debut out of the way. I'd assume he left due to pitch count issues...or at least I hope
  7. Will Inman is in...I'd always wondered about his mechanics, but they're a bit funky
  8. man, expensive night for the Stars. I believe the AA fine for getting tossed is $500, which is roughly 1/15th of their base pay
  9. At this point I would anticipate Nelson being a .260 avg, decent obp, 25 hr guy in the bigs. If we deal Prince for pitching, I'd want him at first to at least open the year, but wouldn't consider him a roadblock for Gamel
  10. best public courses in the Milwaukee area: -Western Lakes, Nagawaukee, Oakwood, Dretzka (front nine is awesome), Kenosha Brightondale, The BOG, Kettle Hills, Washington County Golf Course, Scenic View, New Berlin Hills, Ironwood. I'm also a huge fan of the Lawsonia courses in Green Lake (Ripon, west of Fon du Lac) I can't stand the terrible greens at Fire Ridge. Okay layout and fairway conditions, but the greens are a joke. REally, the best courses in the area are Nag (Nagawaukee), Washington County, The Broadlands, Morningstar Golfers Club, and Oakwood
  11. Mass, my understanding is that when someone is on the 40 man roster they can be sent to AAA IF they pass waivers and do not elect free agency. This removes them from the 25 man roster, but not necessarily the 40 man roster. I'm fairly certain this happened to Mike Rivera and others in recent years.
  12. Toby, couldn't they have just outrighted him to AAA without removing him from the 40-man? He'd have to clear waivers either way.
  13. Harden to the Cubs makes me feel good. The A's traded Haren and he's done well so far. But long term, the only really good pitcher post-trade has been Harang. After moving on (in trade or signing) Zito, Hudson (good, but injured a few times), and Mulder have all been letdowns.
  14. Hey agent39, Thanks for all the updates/blog links. Taylor Green is someone I'm worried about losing. He can play 2b or 3b, he is putting up the best Brevard County numbers we've seen. His only limitation is height. With Brantley, I've long loved his plate discipline. If either of these two winds up being part of the deal, please let them know that many of us have enjoyed tracking their minor league careers from draft/DFE signing. I know that when I've spoken with players in the AFL, they appreciated knowing that many of us internet dorks were eagerly following their careers.
  15. with that kind of depth, Lawrie could be tried at 3b
  16. I see the Brewers getting Sabathia. But I want him to start tomorrow so that Parra and Sheets can go on Tues and Wed. If Sabathia goes Tues, does that mean that Parra gets pushed back, or that both Sheets and Parra get pushed back? Having both pushed back wouldn't kill since it'd be letting Sheets go with an extra day of rest.
  17. splitter, they declined Jenkins' option, but what didn't bring picks was when they didn't offer arbitration.
  18. Shoot, if Burnett could be had relatively cheaply, it'd mean potential draft picks for Burnett, Sabathia, Sheets, Cameron.
  19. man, I think Nady learned from Jenkins' book of "unnecessary slides".
  20. The only reason I'd be interested in Burnett is for 2009, when we'll need #2 starters
  21. Personally I'm to the point where I look at Lucroy, Fryer, Lawrie, and Kendall (could be here a few more years), and say that we should offer LaPorta and Salome. I'd love to hold onto Green, since he has 2b/3b ability. I'm in love with Brantley for CF/leadoff. Frankly, part of this decision needs to come down to Hardy--will he re-sign? If Hardy will sign a 4-5 year deal, you can afford to do a deal of LaPorta, Salome, and Escobar, but you'd BETTER get something back in addition to Sabathia, and they should probably take Mota from us, too
  22. To be honest, I have no problem dealing Laporta, as I think he projects as another Pat Burrell. But Green could be the 3b answer, or at least 2b. Perhaps even to the tune of Robby Alomar type numbers
  23. Just curious, when did LaPorta sign? I remember him holding out longer than anyone expected. Then he had to rehab an injury. But Laporta cannot be traded until he's been under contract for 1 year. I don't believe he's been under contract for a year yet, although we could get around that by declaring him the PTBNL
