  1. Weeks can be at 2b, but he should be dropped to 5th or 6th in the order. Kendall or Hart batting first. I came to this conclusion after watching Weeks swing aggressively during that pinch hit appearance in Phoenix. He swings at the bad pitches and takes the good ones. He's not the same aggressive Rickie that we've seen in either his rookie year (all those homers hitting down in the order) or at the end of last year. Just as a lineup change worked for Hardy, I think it'd work for Weeks
  2. Keep in mind that if the trade is completed on Saturday or Sunday, Sabathia actually would start on Monday (last started on Wed) with Parra and Sheets following on regular rest. Man, that'd be rough for the Rockies.
  3. Remember, Weeks has a career .242 average and .752 OPS. I actually would be tempted to consider Kendall or Hart at leadoff, because Weeks probably is struggling in part because he's hitting leadoff. He looks so lost at the plate that it almost looks like he's trying to fit his game to the leadoff spot rather than just playing his game. But Weeks doesn't walk enough, strikes out too much, and is more afraid of bunting than Podsednik was. I think Weeks could thrive if out of the leadoff spot. I used to not think that, but after watching Hardy's offensive change, I think perhaps the place in the order could impact these guys.
  4. pitchleague, I also realize that there's a good chance Weeks could have a sudden turnaround like Brandon Phillips/Jose Guillen, but sometimes I feel that we're watching another Corey Patterson/Alex Escobar.
  5. Paul253, If we deal Weeks, we'll plug Dillon into the leadoff spot (better leadoff type than Weeks) and at 2nd base (better defensively). In three years Weeks will likely be the far better player. But waiting for Weeks to come around is reminding me a lot of waiting for Corey Patterson to come around
  6. I still think Carlos can be a very good starter. However, this year as a starter he got Jimmy Haynes-syndrome and nibbled. As a reliever he usually is on the attack, and successful because of it
  7. Seeing Hardy these last few weeks has changed my opinion. Really, Hardy has started embracing going to RF for the first time in his career. I wonder if we could put him at 2b or 3b long-term, and that's tough for me to say because I love how he's always in the right place at the right time. If it's hit to him, you know it's an effortless out, unless Prince misses the catch. I do believe that one day Prince will make a highlight reel for having a routine throw from SS/3b hit him in the face. I'm not sure what scares me the most...losing Hardy, Green, or Gamel. I'd part with LaPorta before any of them. But I'd rather deal both LaPorta and Weeks/Hall.
  8. Frederickson with a rough 1st inning. Nothing hit hard, but does much have to be hit hard when the inning features a bunt single, 3 walks, and 5 wild pitches? Much better 2nd inning for Neugebauer...er, Frederickson
  9. SeriesFinale, I would assume Bush would go to AAA to keep him stretched out as a starter. Mota might be DFA'd. I was looking at Brewers salaries both on Brewerfan.net and usatoday.com. I looked at players that I feel are likely to be gone in '09-- Cameron, Gagne, Hall, Mota, Turnbow, and Capuano. Taking all of their salaries and adding in Sheets' salary gives approximately $43 million in '08 salaries. Give Sheets $19 million (5 years, $95 million) Give Sabathia $21 million (5 years, $105 million) That leaves about $3 million in the '09 budget, along with ticket increases, increases in revenues from '08's high attendence and possible playoffs, and projected '09 attendence. All of that should be able to sufficiently absorb the increases in salaries for JJ Hardy, Prince Fielder, and Corey Hart. In theory, we could sign both pitchers to huge contracts AND preserve our offense. A rotation of Sheets, Sabathia, Gallardo, Parra, and ???? would rock
  10. From what is seems to me, the Brewers KNOW Fryer can catch. Therefore they are letting the toolsy/raw prospects do the catching while letting Fryer play every day. In reality, his offense is what needs the work, so having him catch 4 days a week then having him take a few days off would take roughly 8 at bats from him per week.
  11. Mass, it was actually quite pleasant today. It's been a bit humid here lately...like 20%. But I'd say 110 with 20% humidity feels comparable to Wisconsin's summertime 85 degrees with 80% humidity
  12. To be honest, I'd love Sabathia. But I fully expect us to land someone like Derek Lowe, Paul Byrd, Aaron Cook, or Maddux. Byrd seems a likely candidate.
  13. So I was just curious how many of our minor leaguers are likely to be playing for Team Canada in the Olympics? Taylor Green, Alex Periard, Lawrie, etc?
  14. I also was perusing Nelson's stats and see he has more walks than K's. Always a rare, yet nice sign and potential indicator for success. And I see he's still 25. If he'd gone to college and gotten drafted then, being in AAA at this age would be normal.
  15. As of now I'd expect Nelson to make the brewers in '09 as a 1b/OF/ph with pop.
  16. When I think of LaPorta, I think of him peaking as a Pat Burrell/Jay Buhner type. To me that's someone I'm not afraid to part with in a trade. Hate those Rodents, we could probably get a .260 avg, decent walks, and 20-25 homers out of Nelson at 1b next year. We have plenty of choices at 1b should we deal Prince.
  17. Before going to the game last night, I saw the lineup on JSonline, and thought, "wow, with Weeks out of the lineup tonight, we really probably just increased our chance or winning." Sure enough, Dillon doesn't have that lost look at the plate that Weeks and Hall have. With Hall and Weeks you just get the feeling that breaking balls out of the zone will be swung at, and fastballs over the plate are split between being swung through and taken. At this point in time I consider Dillon to be a better player than Weeks, although that's fully expecting that in the near future that will not be so.
  18. The logical assumption to me would be if the two team are talking deal, that it woul be for Harden. Harden is an Oakland A. Haren is a Dback, and is not going anywhere
  19. Is there a limit to the number of compensation picks if we do get CC and lose him and Sheets? If Cordero and Linebrink brought the picks they did I can only imagine what CC and Sheets would be worth. Believe it or not, the compensation level would be the same. If the Brewers had them both, and lost them both, they'd wind up with four extra picks, just as they did for Cordero and Linebrink. splitter, while that's true, it's also a little misleading. We would still get 4 picks, but where would Sheets and Sabathia be going? Most likely NY, NY, Boston, or Anaheim. All would pick in the bottom half of the round, so instead of netting 2 supplemental picks AND 2 2nd rounders, we'd likely net the supplementals AND first rounders. It'd mean 5 picks in the top 40, not 3 in the top 40
  20. I could see Hardy and Drew being flopped. Drew is more of an all around hitter. Some homers, some average, very patient, and left-handed. Hardy is similar defensively and does great in AZ.
  21. seemed like tons in Brewers gear there. I'll be there again tomorrow night, maybe Thurs. My favorite place to eat is the place with the chicken tenders in the left field corner, but unfortunately they've dropped the waffle fries.
  22. wow, Tbow with no walks. 13 pitches, 9 are strikes!
  23. olliegjw, not totally true. If you're under 40, most of the clubs charge a junior rate, even if families aren't members there. That's usually around $2000-2500. One friend joined Ozaukee that way, and he's 28, at a club, and plays twice a week. With 25 or so rounds, he's paid for his investment, and the rest of the rounds are free after that.
  24. Hopf seems to sort of be minor league fodder. That is, they like what he can do, but might be grooming him as a coach/bullpen catcher
