  1. Street's secondary numbers are similar to last season. Is it just bad luck, or maybe elevating of pitches?
  2. Amazing to think that Rolando Pascual is still only 19. He's had some good innings (the 8th today), and given the patience they've shown with Peralta and Mercedes, I would assume they'll be cautious with him.
  3. I'll say Yovani Gallardo is the huge bullpen acquisition in mid-August
  4. When watching Hall, he's had a rather rough year at 3b. I made excuses until he made bad play after bad play beginning with the Boston series. I personally hoped Branyan's vastly underrated defense would get called up, because we could see that Hall needed a mental break. His hitting had been awful, but his defense was the last straw. Branyan makes plays look smooth. He's very patient out there. Hall tends to look like the game is coming too fast at him.
  5. wow...a 40-50 point improvement in OBP from the leadoff spot would probably yield a few extra runs per week, while the defense probably drops 1 run every couple weeks. Sorry, he's an improvement over Corey Patterson...I mean Rickie Weeks.
  6. Sorry folks...from DirecTv's website. "ESPN maintains their exclusive national broadcast window for all Major League Baseball games on Sunday nights, therefore, no telecast can be made available for out-of-market distribution. As their rights are for night games only, any games which start after 5:00pm ET (2:00pm PT) cannot be distributed out-of-market. However, on the first Sunday after the All-Star Game (7/15/08), no game with a start time after 3:00pm ET (12:00pm PT) can be distributed out-of-market."
  7. Directv's schedule shows 696, but I'm getting a message and no game
  8. I'm in Arizona, and I know districts here (I teach in Paradise Valley, a part of Phoenix) actively recruit in the midwest. Lots were hired from Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Minnesota. If you can't land a job in the midwest, perhaps traveling as others said. Some states have massive teacher shortages. Wisconsin has a surplus
  9. nate, Durham has always had both good obp skills and good pop. It's hard to compare him to Counsell as they are totally different players
  10. I wonder if the Brewers would have the (insert body part/organ) to send Rickie to AAA again. Last year it really helped, and it'd be nice to have him playing well.
  11. Durham might have no range, but is he sure-handed? I don't mind trading range if the guy makes every play he can get to
  12. There was an article mentioning him in the last few weeks. He had surgery in May, and likely won't make news until November when the Brewers have to decide whether to offer him arbitration.
  13. Alex Periard may have thrown innings in Fall Intructional League last year, so he may have a higher threshold, too
  14. battlekow, looks like the pronation that Mike MArshall talks about
  15. I've looked at the EEE, but I figured the HP Mini Note's reviews about a superior keyboard/screen made it at least a worthy upgrade. I was more or less concerned about SUSE Linux as opposed to Windows. As to why I like Vista, it's very smooth, and I have only a fraction of the program faults that I had with Win 95, 98, or XP. I'm not a programmer or an IT person, so I haven't had to deal with the problems that Vista can cause. For a basic-to-slightly advanced user, Vista is a very nice OS. But I fear that on these Ultra-portable computers it would be a pain. Hence my curiosity about SUSE
  16. Maybe I'm the only one here, but I look at LaPorta and view him as eventually being a Pat Burrell-type. That is a 1b/LF with 30-35 hr power, iffy defense, and a .270 or so average. That's something that has impacted my impression of him.
  17. hey all. I've been a Windows user probably since 3.11, and I really enjoy the look and smoothness of Windows Vista on my 1.5 year old computer. I have a work computer (I'm a teacher) that is a MacBook, but I hate traveling with it. It's a bit heavy, and there's the fear of it getting stolen while on my personal time. I do a bit of traveling in summers and over school breaks, and am an internet/Brewers junky in need of a laptop. I'd like it to be very portable because I hate laptops that are a bit heavy/bulky. So I am very intrigued by the HP mini-note 2133. When traveling I only need a web-browser, email program, and WiFi. I'd like Office, but it's not necessary. My intent is to hold back all urges and NOT buy a second (or third, counting my work computer) good computer. Rather, my needs are for traveling only. In that case should I be considering the sharp looking HP Mini Note at $499 with Linux SUSE? Or should I hop on Newegg and get a 12" Gateway for around $700? Like I said, I'm trying to fight back all manly tech-buying urges to buy the newest and best, and instead am going for practical. But I've never used Linux, hence why I wanted to ask. Thanks fellas
  18. Anundsen with 15 groundouts, but is outdone by Wright with 16 groundouts.
  19. ewizabeff, congrats on being a baseball junky. There needs to be more women that are diehards. I live in Scottsdale and I find that my favorite time to go to games is the first week or so, because the prospects get to play a lot and the crowds aren't insane. I'm a teacher, so I love taking my spring break and going to a couple of games. My favorite parks to watch games are in Peoria and Surprise. The Tempe and Scottsdale ones are nice. Phoenix is by the zoo and is easy to get to, but it doesn't have lawn seats like the others (when you go to games alone, you don't feel as lonely when sitting on the lawn). It must be a thrill for your dad. I know I can't wait to take my niece to games when she's old enough, and I've already been told by her mom that I'm to teach her baseball, softball, and golf. Soccer and hoops are up to her dad. So in summing up my points, you sound like you want to see the kids play a lot, and that's most likely early in spring because the starters will be playing 3 innings then sitting. That means you'll see some of Brantley, Salome, Gamel, etc. It's fun to see the kids before hitting the majors.
  20. Brae Wright deserves some props. How does a pitcher go from doing awful in Rookie and A ball, to suddenly holding his own in AA?
  21. Great debut for Lintz, and great outing for Scarpetta. Take away one bad outing and Rapoza has thrown well, too. Still, I miss the days of the Hurricane. It might be monsoon season, and Phoenix is getting blasted with their daily monsoon rainshower, but nobody is approaching Hurricane status. Can we get some players with multi-hit games????
  22. Barden is a non-prospect and is going to presumably play 3rd. Seems like they wanted a veteran or two, which the 2000 team had plenty of
  23. wow, Brett's sister is very attractive, especially for a blonde (sorry, I tend to not go for blondes), and she probably has a cool accent, too
  24. What's interesting is that multiple sources have hinted that this trade is very unique. It sounds like Cleveland has a short list of players. However, based on how Sabathia does, the Indians can add additional players to the list. So as of now the list might be Lucroy or Cain. But if Sabathia does well (as he seems to be), the Indians would be able to add names to the pool, perhaps including Green, Brantley, or Salome
