  1. I've always thought that Katin reminded me of somewhat of a Rob Deer/Jay Buhner typer. Well, today (I was there), he crushed the ball. Despite relatively strong winds, he his a 430 foot homer, two doubles off the wall, and a flyout to the track. Not a bad day. Oh yeah, and Darren Ford's single was on a routine 3 hop-chopper to shortstop. Man he's fast!
  2. once again, remember that folks that retire from Wisconsin tend to move to AZ. Folks from New England tend to retire to FLA. Frankly, there's so many here w/Milwaukee connections that it'd hurt their attendence
  3. Curtis Thigpen is a really good guy. Although he might be guaranteed a lot of time this year. Plays 1st and catcher very well
  4. remember, WI folks retire generally to AZ, not FLA. Lots of Packers fans here. Chase field usually has huge brewers contingents
  5. i believe the brewers have had 2 games broadcast so far, yet XM hasn't picked them up
  6. why isn't XM carrying most of the spring training games this year? I've been noticing one Grapefruit League and one Cactus League game each day.
  7. Most stadiums already have charged $8.50 for the same $6 beer we get at Miller Park. Heck, I remember getting a Leiny's there for around $4.25 a few years ago, and then a month later was at both games in Cincinnati and Oakland, and they were over $8 in each park
  8. never had them. I knew a few folks that lived on them in college. I just never understood. Kraft Mac and Cheese can last for two meals and is under $1.
  9. I laughed when I heard they were going to a ruling today. It was common sense to say that Howard would win. He was MVP in 2006. In 2007 he blasted 47 homers despite missing around a month. He's a good guy, and he just "stuck it" to a crappy organization
  10. Theoretically speaking, if Gwynn is playing good defense and getting on base, he could merit 2 starts per week, plus be the top pinch hitter.
  11. I like the NL, because I still have nightmares of Jesse Levis DH'ing
  12. I wish Currency went like casinos. I like $1, 5, 25, 100. Heck, I don't mind the $10 or $50. I just don't get why we need a $20. I also wouldn't mind $2's in greater circulation if they'd ever find a $1 coin that people would accept.
  13. I really see the Crew spending their 7 early picks on a mix of things. I see them taking some stud, toolsy hitters, some athletes, and some pitchers. In general, I'd expect their 7 picks before the 4th round will include 1 catcher, 2-4 pitchers, and some Gillespie-like college hitters.
  14. the intriguing thing is that I'd like to begin developing quality backups. You know, like the old Luis Lopez...the kinds that can play multiple spots for a few days, and are cheap.
  15. I never knew they offered basketball that young. My girlfriend's son is playing in kindergarten. Yet my district in Wisconsin (Elmbrook) didn't offer it to us until 5th grade, and the same was for the Catholic school I went to CCD at. The only sports for really young kids 20 years ago in Brookfield were soccer and baseball/t-ball.
  16. Miguel is also a very good clubhouse guy, and it solid defensively. I don't see AZ moving one of their two talented young catchers.
  17. I moved to AZ to pursue a job as a professional golfer. I needed the year round training. That fell through. But I went to my backup plan of being a teacher, and recently got my post-bacc. This is my first year teaching, and I'm loving it. I hate the monotony of AZ weather though. It's 100 for 50 days, or it's 45 for 50 days
  18. As for the economics of it, it makes sense. There are three ways to stimulate the economy. Increasing gov't spending and increase consumer spending are two of them. This rebate plan should help quite a bit. As for deficits, they don't matter at all. Our deficits have been fine in recent years. As for where they'll get the money, they'll get it from wealthy folks, corporations, etc, when they finance the debt through T-bills, T-notes, etc. In Economics, you're taught that the way you get out of a recession is to spend your way out of it.
  19. Well, at least he was much better than Tsyoshi Shinjo. It used to bug me how fans in the Bay Area worshipped the worst player in the majors
  20. I'd think Suppan would get another $5 million over the course of the deal. He was a workhorse last year that had some bad luck. But, as expected, he logged 200 IP. The only surprise was his relatively large increase in hits allowed.
  21. thanks Mass. His name just popped in my head because I was thinking of cheap, solid relievers
  22. whatever happened to Mike Adams. I did baseball reference searches, and they show he didn't pitch in 2007. Hard to believe since he always had solid numbers, low walk totals, and high strikeout rates.
  23. if the goal is competitive balance, then it makes sense Dmiles23. You want the weakest teams to get the best draft picks. You also want them to not be afraid to make a free agent signing splash
  24. Well, he's never been considered a good defender, and I would expect that to continue. brettac, don't forget he was known as a defensive specialist when he came up with the Phillies, and the Braves were ridiculed for dealing so much for an all-defense, no offense catcher
  25. I was saying...first signing of the free agency period. Schilling and Jones never reached the free agent market
