Braun might be pushing .400 before he gets called up. I've been excited about the HR and BB:K so far. Very nice. Another interesting development is that Balfour has been striking out everyone. Could he become our new Chad Fox (aka, fantastic strikeout 7th inning pitcher)
wow, great inning. This reminds me of that stretch in I think June '04, when the Brewers had a great 4-6 weeks, winning the first two games in nearly every series.
wow, after having Ben sit for so long this inning now (2 pitching changes so far), I'd be tempted to let Villy finish it. Although Ben threw only 40 pitches last time out, so letting him go to the 115 range is fine, too
so far so good for young Alex (or should it be Alexe? just kidding) And Brantley at 1b. Man that's a fast team. Does anything in the air ever hit the ground?
Looking at those splits, here's hoping the bases are empty when Pujols bats. I think Sheets will be using his changeup to neutralize Pujols. He's been using it more against the tough hitters who fare alright against him.
They mentioned many times that Brewers would go get a bat if they needed one. I couldn't help but think the Crew has all the upgrades they need at Triple A if it comes down to it. Am I alone in this regard? Do I have my Brewer goggles on? TheCrew07, you're expecting something that is very rare, and that's that Braun makes an immediate impact. Most of the best young hitters struggle at first. It's likely that if he came up at the allstar break, and hit .270 with 10 homers in half a season, then that would be better than expected. At this point in time, he's not a big league impact bat. He's merely an offensive upgrade at 3b.
I find it funny that most here are bashing the announcers, like they bash nearly all announcers. Yet this is the biggest Brewers' lovefest I've heard on a national broadcast, ever.
stealing 3rd in the same game... Ender, contrary to what many might think, lots in baseball feel stealing 3rd is easier. Catchers and pitchers are often not holding people well at 2nd. And a bad throw can often result in the player walking home. So if the time is right, many baseball folks emrace the steal of third more than the steal of second
I understand SoCal. I wasn't trying to make a point with my post, except to say that their numbers are interesting so far. I hadn't thought much of any of these 3 outside of Helena. So it's putting them on the radar in my mind.
remember, good MLB relievers don't always happen from the start. David Weathers was a poor starter until the Brewers asked him to relieve, and he's had a great career. That's just one example, but it shows that sometimes guys can improve. Spurling has very good stuff, he just needs to work on location. He's our only real sinkerballer out there, and he throws it hard.
I have to say that it's interesting to see that through April, Sollman (the new youklis??), Palmisano, and Moss are putting up much better numbers than Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Hart, or Hall did in Huntsville. It'll be something to continue following.
I still think the next relievers recalled will be Sarfate, Thatcher, Balfour, or a starter like Dillard or Jackson. I'd love to see Dillard's sinker and "pound-the-zone" mentality out there
He deserves it, having been the Brewers best and most used reliever last year. I do not get comments like this, but you're not the only one making them Joe. Capellan was rather awful for a late inning reliever last year. His statistics were not very impressive. He really wasn't among our top 3 or 4 relievers, which says something.
I think that he bats Estrada 5th to hedge his bets against strikeouts. If there is a strikeout pitcher out there, and Fielder and Hall strikeout out with men on, then it can be assumed that Estrada is more likely to put the ball in play than Jenkins. In the first week of the season we saw the value of Estrada 5th, as he hit line drive basehits that scored some 2-out runs. Lately his liners have not been falling for hits.
Doug, I'd guess it was just a 2-seamer. That's what I figured Sam. It's just odd. Normally Ben only throws 2 pitches in a game. That would mean he threw at least 4 last game, as he regularly mixed in his changeup, especially to Berkman.
