  1. I thought 83 wins, but could move either way depending on trades or injuries. I really thought Guerra would regress, but be solid. Now he's a total DFA candidate. Starting him today gave us no chance. But I also thought Nelson and Peralta were ready for breakout seasons. I really like our lineup heading into next year. C: Pina, other 1b: Thames, Aguilar 2b: Walker? SS: Arcia 3b: Shaw LF: Braun CF: Broxton/Phillips RF: Santana UT: Villar, Perez (IF and OF positions) We need to figure out 2b. I think Perez could be dealt if someone things he can start, although I think we're fine with holding him for another year as a super-sub then dealing him (imagine if we could have dealt Hall before he lost his value). I think Villar has a bounce back and earns more 2b playing time.
  2. Guys are bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before. Every play the forces of impact are like getting hit by a moving car. One thing I’ve long argued the NFL needs is improved roster flexibility. Forget the 53-man roster, 46-man gameday roster, and practice squad. Teams need a 65-man roster with 50-man game day roster. There should also be a shorter term DL instead of IR. If a guy will miss 3 weeks, a team should be able to DL him and add someone else to the roster without ending his season (the rules have gotten better here with 2 guys now able to come off IR). With concussion rules, painkiller abuse, and waiting to properly rehab injuries, the NFL is currently encouraging players to lie about injuries to remain in the lineups. The Packers were among several teams with more guys OUT than inactive spots, resulting in playing a few players shorter than opponents.
  3. Jericho, I read that differently. I assumed if he were doing well, he’d already have been released. By accepting Venezuelan health care, I’m thinking it’s a sign that things aren’t going well
  4. Like I've said before, when I hear of arm injuries, this is the order I rank them: Catastrophic <----------------------------> sad but recoverable rotator cuff, labrum, Torn UCL, UCL sprain, bone spurs unknown-- Flexor Tendon. It's supposed to be ok, but Sheets sure got derailed by it. I'm hoping we see Jimmy in the majors by August 1st, but I don't expect him to contribute until 2019 (or sadly...ever again)
  5. Watching Clay these last two seasons, I only see brief moments of him as a star. In the Falcons game he did get to the Qb a few times, but he routinely gets blocked by one man, overpursues on the edge, and runs himself out of plays. He either needs to play inside where he can run sideline to sideline with his speed, or be traded/released. For most of a game he’s a liability with how he’s used. We saw how the move inside a few years back rejuvenated his career...maybe it needs to happen again, as he rarely beats linemen these days.
  6. tough night for the Packers. Some bad calls, brutal injuries, multiple drops (Cobb in end zone, Adams and Cobb with 3rd down drops, and Bennett). Not sure they all were officially drops, but all should have been caught.
  7. Just before the all-star break I read an analysis of schedules that called for the Brewers to finish 4th in the NL central due to remaining schedule. I had a hard time fathoming just how many times the Cubs would win 4 in a row this 2nd half
  8. Reminds me when the Rockies won something like 20 of 21 in Sept to go from several games back to winning the division handily
  9. Gregmag, thanks to Scott Tenorman, I don't think I could judge a chili cook off. But good luck to you and a good cause.
  10. This makes perfect sense. Last Saturday I assumed he was starting due to being removed after 67 pitches
  11. Heck yeah, I can finally see the Brewers in SD. Normally it's a week night during the school year
  12. I'd like to see Jungmann and Wilkerson in a piggy-back scenario where each is told their objective is to go 4 innings (with flexibility of course). It would eliminate the 3rd time through the order, and give an audition for them. It better not be Guerra. He can't survive an outing without allowing runs
  13. how about another idea...let the NL only have 8 hitters. It preserves a difference between the leagues. I still like the purity of pitchers batting, understand the arguments to have all use DH, but just wanted to say something else
  14. Madthinker, This is a fun comparison to look at. Thank you for the time and effort.
  15. I think Mike Adams (former Brewers closer) had labrum surgery and came back dominant. But the shoulder is a tough healer
  16. this really sucks for Jimmy, this year, and next. I'd expect him back around the all-star break, but labrum and rotator cuff issues are nothing to sneeze at. I'd rather have a bad elbow any day.
  17. As I stated above, my reading into the comments from Counsell last week and in Spring Training regarding a creative rotation solution is that we're going to have 3-4 true starters and the others will be matchup based. If a starter is struggling early, expect them to pitch only a few innings, like the Cardinals in the 2011 playoffs.
  18. The Brewers have said Garza will still start and pitch in game. Basically, the assumption is they are going to treat each game as a chance to pitch with matchups to start, and then go from there. Within each game, they are going to pitch like the Cards did in the '11 playoffs where the starters rarely pitched into the 5th inning. At least that's what I'm reading into all the comments
  19. When I worked in baseball, there was some oft-quoted study that showed that minor league pitchers going under the knife had something like 1% or 5% (or something like that) chance of ever reaching the big leagues.
  20. LouisEly, Gatewood is pretty much a 1b who has recently played some 3b again. Perhaps he's at 1b, or perhaps he's not a priority player and is there to DH and play all over.
  21. Wilkerson's numbers are too good to ignore. He needs some sort of audition with us.
  22. very tough to hear about. I think that's interesting about chest protectors, I've never heard of that. I remember rules requiring mouth guards in my league
  23. When I worked in the AFL, the manager and trainers were speaking nearly daily with reps from each organization. It would be easy to regulate his workload in the AFL. I'd try to let him go 2 innings twice a week
  24. Cobb could be a casualty if the Packers want to save money. His performance has never matched his contract, and he's never really been more than a #3 receiver, although historically he has excelled as a 3rd guy
