  1. As we're told as teachers, the average Mexican immigrant has a 3rd grade education. So often we have greater responsibilities to teach their children than other nationalities. While I'd like to say they need HS, the reality is many may live in villages or towns without HS. As was said, teams now try to educate these kids in ways that schools in impoverished nations may not be able to do.
  2. It's minor leagues...don't worry. Didn't Jeter once have like 30 or 40 in a season? As the Brewers recently said, his footwork and arm angles get off, but they think he's playing excellent defense now
  3. He's really not that old. Lucroy turns 31 next year. He's good for another 3-4 year contract.
  4. Part of the reason I'd consider trying to extend Lucroy rather than trade him is my memory...Kade Johnson, Jason Belcher, Angel Salome, Sweet Lou, and so many more.
  5. I triple-bogeyed my first hole yesterday. Good thing I didn't give up on the round, because I shot 76. Everyone is allowed some bad outings.
  6. I want 3-5 players with the value Wheeler had last week for Braun (since today Wheeler's value is way down). The Brewers have no reason to move Braun's cheap contract and all-star play, unless they are overwhelmed. For a team making a profit of $20-40 million this year, I can't fathom why dumping Braun is logical.
  7. This is where I'd love to have Roy Halladay on speed dial to talk with these guys. His season was abysmal before he got demoted to A-Ball, reinvented himself, and became a Hall of Famer
  8. Wouldn't it be $950k? I think you forgot that the first $100k doesn't count against the cap
  9. I really only see them trading Hill at this point in time. I can see Carter, but I just don't know if anyone is desperate for his bat right now. It's weird, I love seeing us competitive, but I don't mind us losing 1-run games to the Giants and Dodgers.
  10. Turner seems like a guy hitting about .800/.900/3.00 against us.
  11. I just looked up his minor league numbers, and I'd gladly take him. He's still young.
  12. I can't believe that the game is tied. What were the umps seeing?
  13. Mass, when I briefly worked in the Fall League, it was explained that the clubs provide no food. Clubhouse operations are funded by player dues. So whether at home or on the road, the players pay a small amount of money (say $5-10) which allows for food/drink budget, shoe service, laundry, and clubhouse staff. Some big league clubs may now contribute to food budget to help ensure nutritional content. When I worked in the Fall League, we provided players with 1 hot and 1 cold meal each day.
  14. have noticed this lately, so wanted to comment. I'm at Costco, and after shopping get a slice of pizza and a soda. I wait in the fountain soda line. There are 2 fountain machines, each with an ice dispenser and 4-5 options on each side. Yet everyone infront fills up their ice, then pours their soda without moving over. When the lady infront of me did this, I stepped forward, said "excuse me," and reached in to fill up my ice while she was filling her soda. Once I had enough ice, I went to one of the taps on the opposite side she was on. She gave me a little look like I was violating her private space. It's not just there though. Maybe FreeStyle Machines have retrained people into thinking only one person can be using the ice/soda combo at a time, but I've always believed 2-3 people should be able to do so at the same machine at the same time.
  15. Ricky, I have a hard time faulting Garza. Some facts: -he's had an outstanding career -he had a nice 2014 -he was clearly frustrated -wasn't his wife having some difficulties with her pregnancy -most teams give veterans the benefit of pitching through problems -who wants to be told by their boss to go home and come back in 6 months??
  16. Garza was very good for us in 2014. He's had a tremendous career. Hopefully he has a nice 2016 and gets us back over .500
  17. Didn't remember reading he did that. I remember always finding it odd that JJ Hardy used a golf grip, but never heard it discussed
  18. One thought is I doubt Jack Z would have taken Ray. At the time, we were always told they looked for a player with an outstanding tool--Rogers' velocity, Fielder's power, Weeks' bat, Braun's bat, etc. not sure he would have passed on Puk's repertoire. Still, I hold back my judgement until later.
  19. Erceg's lack of walks don't bother me. With aluminum bats, a good hitter can expand his zone hitting pitches off the plate. I'll want to see how his discipline translates to the minors first. I may have to drive to Helena in a couple weeks to watch some games.
  20. I don't have a problem with going hitting early in the draft. Most of our last 6 or so drafts have been pitching heavy, especially early. I don't mind taking hitters early and then loading up with arms. Good scouting should be able to find some arms in rounds 3-15 that can contribute. I know you don't draft for position, but I'd like more infielders with potential. We have a lot of outfielders with tools and I'm sure some IF that might get moved to OF. Can't have enough IF.
  21. Scooter has raised his average a lot this week. If he gets comfortable, he could be up around .280 at the all star break. I haven't given up on him yet, as he reached the majors at a young age and has had to learn pitch recognition and plate discipline on the fly.
  22. Decided to bite my tongue again.
  23. I'm not. When a high school kid that tosses 100 makes the big leagues, maybe I'll be impressed. Colt Griffin, Jason Neighborgall, etc....I'd rather find a kid that throw 91-93 and the potential to add velocity. I know...just because the others that threw 100 in HS failed doesn't mean he will, but I'm going with it. Hard to pass on Puk there, but I understand the love
  24. I don't think Wily is a non-tender candidate. After all, how many starter pitchers throw 95 mph sinkers? I'd love to see a Doc Halladay-like promotion down to A/AA.
  25. Why? If he were a free agent, he'd likely land 5 years and $125 million, if not a 6th year. His contract is a bargain. So to say nobody wants him at that is foolish. If they want him, they'll part with prospects. We all know that prospects only work out some times.
