  1. I'm no Wisconsin fan, but I think this loss helps me as the Badgers should be a 7-seed now. That means they'll be against a 10-seed and something like a 3-to-5.5 point favorite. Sometimes the mid-tier Big Ten teams seem overseeded, so I could still see Wisconsin landing a 6-seed. If they have a low-line, I'll consider throwing money on them.
  2. jerichoholicninja, I'm saying I don't like compensation being tied to salary offers. There's nothing about NFL or NBA free agency I like. They are not free markets. I also don't like teams giving up draft picks. I'd like a system where additions and subtractions are weighed, and teams are then rewarded compensation picks between rounds based on their losses....perhaps from after rounds 1 through 5. I really hate that a team like the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, or Cubs could let a bunch of players walk in free agency, sign other guys just as good, and STILL get compensation picks after the first round.
  3. Since someone mentioned the NHL, NBA, and NFL, one thing to mention that is great in MLB is that it's the only effective free agent market. They need to get rid of the compensation picks tied to Qualifying Offers and award compensation like the NFL (extra picks from league based on net free agents lost).
  4. I guess I don't understand the slow rebuild. Our corner outfield will be well above average. CF is iffy. Rotation should be good. Bullpen outstanding. Should be fun year to around 70 wins, with 2017 being a return to .500
  5. The Brewers are one of the bigger draws in the Cactus League. Lots of retirees here, and lots that visit. The biggest detractor for the Brewers is the stadium neighborhood and location. It's a nice facility. I refuse to drive to the Goodyear or Camelback ranch facilities, and Mesa's too far for me. I'll try to catch the Brewers in Scottsdale, Maryvale, Peoria, or Surprise.
  6. I personally think we should drink sake all the time. It tastes awesome, and look at how long the Japanese live
  7. I'm expecting a break out year...25-35 homers, .270 average, .360 Obp, and 180 K's.
  8. I agree with others. I'm strangely at peace with the team. Should have good rotation, great bullpen, and talent (mostly unfulfilled) all throughout the lineup. I really think Santana is going to be a breakout star this year. At the time of the trade last year he was being downplayed as the 4th player in the deal, but his profile screams of Nelson Cruz (nice avg, high walks, high K's, budding power, good enough range to dabble in CF, good arm, overlooked prospect)
  9. Mass, they get meal money on road trips, but they also have to pay a portion of it for clubhouse dues. So an increase in meal money would be nice, additionally if the Brewers contributed to help pay for healthy clubhouse meals
  10. This year's team should win about 70 games. Im a huge believer in the pitching staff. The rotation is very deep. The pan has lots of talented hard-throwers. Throw in we have 2 perennial silver slugger candidates. I'm content with where we are
  11. If Yadiel Rivera is seen as near his ceiling (mediocre hitter, great D), then he's perfect for a backup role in the majors right now. I'd like to see him play a bit, given his improved recent offensive performance. I get the feeling that Stearns likely does a great job with viewing players as replaceable assets. That's such a hard thing for a GM or fan to do. It's easy to be enamored with individual players. I think Stearns is looking to constantly cycle the roster to find something that works.
  12. I'll miss Seggy's defense. For a guy that supposedly could only play 2b, he had good range and an incredible arm. Good luck to him on the Dbacks.
  13. rumor has it that the Dbacks will include some of Hill's salary. I hope it's at least $8 of the $12 million. Ultimately it doesn't matter. We'll have such a low payroll this year that we can do trades like the Braves did last year where we add contracts and release the players, just to bring in prospects. I don't see Hill being a Brewer opening day. If he is, it's the Kotsay/Kapler role
  14. not sure what this does. Anderson is a fine 4th starter. Diaz looks awesome. I'll miss following Wagner dominating the minors. Hill isn't very good. He's not a candidate for comeback player of the year. a platoon with Scooter?
  15. Could probably get Gallo if you up it to include Peralta and Lucroy. Gallo and some other pieces
  16. I'd like to know soon, as it impacts whether or not I consider trading Davis. He could develop into a premier DH and occasional LF, thus increasing his trade value. Right now, there are a handful of AL teams that would really desire him, but few NL teams despite his gaudy power numbers. With a DH, his value blows through the roof
  17. I like this move. I also think a season of 150-250 at bats is often a nice thing for these fringe players. It lets them play without being over-exposed, experience some success. Kind of like breaking in a starter as a reliever
  18. Of course I would have. Getting to the playoffs was awesome! Nearly 20 years of sucking. We don't make the playoffs either year without them
  19. First off, $35 million per year is too low. Greinke basically got that already. I see Harper getting something like 12 years $500 million from baseball's wealthiest owner (Washington), with several opt-outs.
  20. 3and2, they should usually punt on their own side of the field, but rarely when a touchback is reasonably possible.
  21. Monty, the service time argument doesn't hold water anymore. Teams have decided that if a player is ready, you might as well play the person and generate good-will. Teams aren't simply holding guys back in AAA like they used to. I'd take Santana in the OF any day. Plus, he'll play 6 games in the corner spots due to inevitable injuries to braun and Davis
  22. reillymcshane, I think you meant that in blue. He was a pretty solid pitcher in his career. Maybe slightly below league average overall, but he had a really nice run until arm surgery interrupted his development. He also came into the league and in a more offensive era, with Colorado no less.
  23. People that don't use their turn signals when they make lane changes or turn. I wish they would get ticketed for this seriously selfish act that jeopardizes everyone else on the road's safety.
  24. I meant the innings/start going up and the ERA and WHIP declining.
