  1. comparisons: Minors/MLB 1st season (so far) K/9 Jungmann 6.8/6.6 Webb 8.1/8.6 K/BB: Jungmann 1.83/2.6 Webb 2.53/2.53 BB/9: Jungmann 3.7/2.5 Webb 3.2/3.4 HR/9: Jungmann 0.6/0.3 Webb 0.3/0.6 H/9: Jungmann 8.5/6.6 Webb 9.0/7.0 WHIP: Jungmann 1.358/1.019 Webb 1.360/1.151 GO/FO: Jungmann 1.97/1.56 Webb N/A/2.88 By no means are the numbers exact comparisons. But they are fairly similar. Both have strong groundball tendencies. Both allow fewer hits in the majors than minors likely due to better defenses and field conditions. Both allow fewer baserunners. Webb may have struck out a few more, but Jungmann walks less (so far). Both very stingy with home runs allowed. Obviously we'll have to see what the future holds for Taylor. I remember being really excited by some dominant efforts by Eldred, Woodard, and Peterson as rookies, so by no means do I expect that this version of Taylor Jungmann will stick with us for years. But I'm trying to find a comp that makes sense and offers hope. I think/hope I found a decent one.
  2. Thinking about all the comments about TJ likely regressing and being a 4-5 starter, another pitcher popped in my head as a possible comp to look at. TJ was an extreme ground ball pitcher in the minors. Sometimes that can make a guy's numbers look worse due to quality of fields, defenders, etc. The Dbacks had a player that also had mixed results as a minor leaguer but exploded onto the scene as a dominant big leaguer. He was basically a one-pitch guy, throwing a dominant sinker, won a Cy Young Award (and was runner-up twice). I'm thinking of Brandon Webb. It would be amazing if TJ turned out like that, but I don't expect it. I'm just trying to say that perhaps minor league numbers don't mean everything. Nothing about Webb screamed of potential ace. Maybe it's hard to quantify the future success of hard-throwing ground ball pitchers. Regardless, I'll be at the game tonight. Hopefully it's a win. Would be frustrating not to take 3 of 4 from the Dbacks.
  3. Cf could go to Schafer or Wren. In particular, Logan's defense is outstanding, and he may improve to adequate offensively with playing time. I'm not sold on Davis. He seems to get slightly better each year, but we need a bigger jump. If he makes a big jump, I'd deal him right away.
  4. Dominguez is a nice option, but how do we not give Rogers a long term audition at 3b? He's had 1 game there this year and had some questionable plays. But his bat is killing AAA, and he's done well at every stop. He was one of the game's best PH this year, too. He's paid his dues and needs to get some opportunity.
  5. I agree with not writing demeaning posts. I just don't think it's helping when you see a moderator write a mocking type post towards someone. Doesn't help set the tone. MrTPlush adds value like other posters. Mistakes happen and hopefully he'll change his tune and continue to make this the best place for Brewers discussion. You're right...he does add insight. I went too far in saying that he wasn't adding much value. I think what has irked some of us is the tone where it sounds like he's trying to write for Deadspin. It can come off as confrontational and crude. If we all had a nickel for every time a fairly new poster had to be taught etiquette...I think we'd have at least $5 each!
  6. Nice to see a sports team putting its player first. http://nesn.com/2015/07/indians-wont-trade-mike-aviles-because-of-daughters-leukemia-battle/
  7. thanks TheCrew! Hopefully his happiness leads him somewhere. At least he'll have no more doubts as to whether pitching was correct over hitting. He'll try to do the Jim Rushford-thing
  8. Brew4U, Toby's just saying what many of us are thinking. I've been contemplating saying something about MrTPlush's tone lately. Instead I'd been leaning towards just hiding his comments as they add little value except to stir the pot. I get that he's a student per his profile--I'm assuming early in high school. Hopefully with a little correction from Mods, he can contribute to the site in a more meaningful and productive manner
  9. similarly...whatever happened to Josh Romanski? He was seemingly on his way to MLB, but hasn't played in 2 years. Did one bad year in 2013 cost the lefty his career, or was it an injury?
  10. I like this idea. It would especially help small market clubs, but I could see it help everyone. For instance, the Brewers could have wrapped up the 1st half title in 2014. Instead of needing to acquire Broxton and Parra, they could have traded away Weeks, Duke, and possibly Ramirez. It would allow a team to both contend AND re-tool by adding minor league talent.
  11. Hmmm...that wasn't said once. He's our Ace and has been since the end of 2013. If you look back over his history, I've been one of his biggest backers. I was looking at it as a young pitcher that: a) coming off injury and trying to re-build stamina in a meaningly half season b) a pitcher that has a tremendous slider but still hasn't learned to fully harness it as a strikeout pitch. c) enables us to get an extended look at another potential prospect
  12. For comfortable shoes, I've never had an uncomfortable pair of Footjoys. I've had Nike's and Adidas that have given me blisters. For moderately priced shoes, the FJ Contours are like walking with pillows protecting your feet. I have a great pair of FJ Icons that are the nicest I've ever had. I don't wear them often, but I like them. The FJ DNA are nice, but they run about .5-1 sizes big. I also hear lots of great things about Ecco, but I've never owned a pair Also on a side note, I got my first ever hole-in-one last week at Tripoli! 30 years of golfing, probably 70 or 80 eagles, and at least a dozen teeshots on the lip, but finally got one!!!
  13. I like monkeyman's idea of including competitive balance picks. I'd like to acquire extra picks whenever possible
  14. I had this typed in the Lohse DFA'd thread, but I decided to create a new thread. With this season seeming a waste (barring a 2011-type July/August), I'd consider letting Peralta work out of the pen for the rest of the year. I think it would benefit him to learn to attack hitters better, trust his stuff, and finish hitters. To be honest, that's why I like the Cardinals' plan of letting pitchers work out of the pen before transitioning to the rotation. Additionally, working out of the pen as a 2-inning reliever would let us limit his innings. If not Lohse, I'd consider Letting Cravy, Thorny, or Wagner start to give the player a look for next year. I would DFA Broxton, not Lohse right now.
  15. I have to imagine some teams will look past this year's numbers. They will want him...but they'll use this year's numbers as leverage. I really didn't want Lohse. He wasn't my favorite. But he had two very solid years with us and is supposedly a great influence in the clubhouse. To be honest, if we can't move him now, I'd rather let Lohse try to work it out in the rotation.
  16. Rizzo's numbers sure have improved while the season has gone on. Love his walk totals. Does he have anything worth getting excited about?
  17. Don't know, but Michael Brantley exhibited zero power in the minors, just OBP, and he's been a stud
  18. I seem to recall that Prince was tested that day and also tested well out of normal ranges, but his was thrown out
  19. this is a decent list. Some guys I definitely want to retain.
  20. Sharkey has nice OBP skills it appears. If he can hit a bit more, could make for a sleeper like Jason Rogers
  21. trwi7, the Suppan move was coming for 2 prior seasons. Wolf was at least good for 2 years here. Lohse has been a far better pitcher than any of us imagined when we signed him. Lohse's 4.53 road ERA is better than home. And he has a track-record that other teams will desire. His ERA has nearly doubled from the last two years. With no change in velocity, that means he's likely going to begin to pitch similarly. Having this thriving offense should help
  22. Peralta won't be on rehab for another few weeks. We likely won't see him in the rotation until mid-to-late August. Perhaps he should return as a reliever this year and return to starting next season.
  23. Ha...that's pretty typical of this site. People don't want to trade for Prince Fielder because he's coming off surgery and has had declining production. People won't consider Josh Hamilton despite the Angels paying nearly all his salary because of recent decline and various issues. Sometimes players do turn things around or "progress" to the mean. Lohse, Garza, and Broxton have long track-records of success. Teams always are looking for veterans to get them off the hump. Will these guys have substantial value? no. But should be able to land a top 10 prospect from a team for each of them, especially if we kick in some money. Broxton throws very hard, and teams love that. As for Ramirez, I'm not sure how likely he is to get more than an A-ball non-prospect. But if he starts producing, then he could be an interesting one.
  24. glad to see the Brewers regressing/progressing towards the mean. This team should have been an 82-88 win squad before injuries and poor play. At this point I'd like to see us keep most of the squad in tact, while re-tooling for both later in the season and next year. Moves to make: if offered decent prospects for Lohse, Garza, Parra, Broxton, Cotts, and Ramirez, they should go. I don't want some crappy A-ball filler for them, but I also think we need to give the rotation a try with some youngsters. Peralta, Nelson, Fiers, Jungmann, and Cravy/Thorny/Wagner. Things to ponder: -Can Khris Davis continue to progress? His OBP gains over last year have been nice, but we'd like to see more. -Keep K-Rod or trade him? He likes Milwaukee, he has performed and he's supposedly a great veteran presence. -Is Scooter our 2b? His hitting and strikeouts are worse than norms. His defense is fine. He's still only 25 -Can Scooter, Rogers, or Seggy play 3b? -Do we bring up Arcia in August to get his feet wet? -Should Jeffress or Smith close?
