  1. I assume Hunter has been outrighted to AA/AAA, and is not going through waivers. Right? I won't totally rule him out, but I've been down on him for a while. We all gave up on Nelson Cruz, Jose Bautista, Jose Guillen, etc. Sometimes hitters figure it out late. Good luck to Hunter with things
  2. some are declaring Sardinas a super utility or a platoon partner. At this point, Hector Gomez is more likely to contribute in 2015. For 2016, our shortstop will either be Seggy or Arcia. Sorry, but Sardinas has virtually no chance.
  3. CheezWizHead, I hope Sardinas is in AAA. His offense needs some work. He hits for a nice average, but that's really it. Scooter should play nearly every day, with Gomez spelling him occasionally. This package is much better than expected. It's also much better than what most on here were looking for
  4. I hate it when coaches play NOT to lose rather than playing to win. It's why McCarthy was out coached in the 2nd half yet again. Entire 2nd half strategy was to run out the clock
  5. Negotiating with an owner sounds like Mark A
  6. Wait, Polish you'd trade a top-25 starter for a backup IF and a guy that may never play in the majors?
  7. actually, #5 was weird. Karl had a good minor league season with the Pirates a few years later and just decided he'd had enough. Cirillo was sad to see, but did deteriorate. Haynes had a couple really good seasons with the Reds, Wright is still pitching, and Blanco had a great late career as a defensive catcher. Really the trade was a response to our weak pitching and Nilsson's ineffectiveness with throwing. In the end, the 3 guys we received had nice careers.
  8. I've never encountered someone like this, but they make lots of news this time of year. I'm talking about the anti-"Merry Christmas" crowd. Apparently they'd rather strangers pass without any sort of greeting or pleasantry than offer up this greeting with a smile. I have a lot of Jewish friends, along with lots of non-religious friends, and they all embrace the warmness of Christmas as an American holiday and how it brings out the best in people. So why is it that some Scrooges/Grinches actually become irate when greeted with a pleasantry?
  9. reilly, I think Cruz was available twice as a minor league free agent. He's a bit like Jose Bautista in that he took a long time to figure it out.
  10. hopefully Corey has a good year. I think people on here are forgetting that players in their 30s often have huge variance from year to year. A decent comeback year is definitely possible
  11. Fischer looked great. I hope Marquette keeps a heavy dose of zone to keep him out of foul trouble. He committed 3, but appeared lucky to not get called for contact on several more. I haven't seen post moves like his in a very long time. I think Marquette is now suddenly a tourney team. Maybe 12-seed, but still tourney. We'll see if I'm being too bold, but they're showing lots of positive development so far this season.
  12. surprised Heckathorn made it to AAA. For a guy that peaked in A-ball, he got a bit farther and likely made some extra money. So disappointing that he was a guy with a power fastball that some had ranked as a top 10 pick, but he never did much as a pro.
  13. Bauer? I'd be more upset about Scherzer. I didn't know any Dbacks fans that understood it.
  14. I like Davis, but he has serious flaws. His biggest pros are his salary and power. I would have no problems attempting to trade a pitcher and Davis together if we could land an upgrade in the OF. Davis is not a long-term solution. He's the kind of guy that you use for 2-4 years while cheap, then trade off to maximize your return.
  15. the deal may work for 2-3 years, but i'm looking forward to him being something like Barry Zito or Alfonso Soriano for them in years 4-6 of the deal
  16. I say make a serious bid, trade Seggy, and then in 2016/17 let Arcia play short and Kang play 3b. Done!
  17. Never liked Parra. I'd be happy to move him in the right deal. I'd happily take a reliever or some AAA relief/rotation depth. I loved our AAA rotation to open last year, but the depth has been depleted: Nelson Hellweg Fiers Burgos Pena
  18. Weeks is strictly a DH. If he plays any position against us, it benefits us
  19. Given that we currently have 2 free agent starters following 2015 (although we Brewers fans often forget guys can be extended), I love the idea of signing someone to sit out part of the year while rehabbing for 2016. Jon Lieber was a great signing once for the Yanks, and I like these moves. a 2 year deal sounds good to me, or 1 year with option
  20. nate82...both statistically and with the eye-check Scooter is far and away better than Weeks. Scooter got to so many balls last year that Weeks wouldn't have. I found myself continually thinking "wow, how is it we weren't told to expect this good of defense?!?!?" After years of having a DH play 2b, it was refreshing to see someone with range, footwork, throwing accuracy, and solid throwing mechanics. Plus, for nearly a decade I cringed and held my breath on every bunt, as I knew that it would mean Rickie covering 1st base. I think I still have nightmares of decent throws up the line--catchable throws--flying into the right field corner as Weeks steps away from the base.
  21. looking ahead to this Saturday. I'm going to take Wisconsin by 18. Just curious, but didn't it seem like Bo had Crean's number, while Buzz had Bo's? I seem to remember a hot-shooting frosh Mayo killing Bucky.
  22. should be a good game. While I'm generally a huge Bucky skeptic, I have to say that they actually have legit talent these last few years. Should be a good game tonight. While I'm hoping Duke wins, I don't really care all that much as long as it's a good game. A great early season test for both squads
