  1. Your high school students work 40+ hours per week? Seniors with enough credits (in AZ) to be on a path to graduating only need to take 4 classes. So they are done at 11:40 AM. Some also take online classes, so they may actually only be in school for 2-3 hours. Most of them have jobs starting between noon and 1 pm, lasting until the night. My student working at Costco works over 40 hours per week. He loves that he gets paid overtime AND Costco pays extra for working Sundays. My sophomores tend to work more like 20-25 hours. I thought there was a restriction on work for a 16-year old during the school year, but the students won't complain since they like money.
  2. keep in mind that while Virginia lost, it was practically a road game in a hostile crowd rather than a neutral court affair.
  3. Adam, besides that there are other options. Making $8/hr is a big part of your problem. That's the wage a high school junior should be making. There has to be something else that can provide you with more income. I know they're not sexy, but I hear Milwaukee's manufacturers struggle to find capable employees that are literate and can pass a drug test. That's why they often pay $20+/hr. Not sure if they do part time work though. If you can increase your earnings, then you can afford the car. If you cannot, then I agree with most here that a car may not be the best route.
  4. BrewCrewDude80, my last 3 drivers have been Ping. Nothing has beat them in terms of distance or accuracy (except the next model I bought). G2, G5, i20. Can't wait to golf this week!
  5. BarneyStinston, actually I'd go to Maryvale to play the muni golf course. It's a reasonably priced gem in a Valley of $200 courses
  6. maybe Jungmann will have a sucky career like that Braun guy. Remember how he was never supposed to succeed because of his elbow (according to a Bfan poster)?
  7. That's tough. My high school students make more than that while working 40+ hours per week. Is there a Costco near you? Last I heard they were moving into Wisco. My students working there pull in $17-20 per hour, have great benefits, and enjoy the work. There's a reason Costco works are usually so pleasant! I know last year I was frustrated to do the math and find that if I were an entry level Costco worker, I'd make more than I do as an 8th year teacher.
  8. This is a dumb complaint. Gomez wins far more games with his style than he loses. Yes, he can drive us crazy. At least he's a good player now. Remember when he was crappy and rarely ever won games for us? If his offense/defense wins us more games than it loses (which it does) then I'll take it.
  9. I'm still playing my Ping i20 from about 3-4 years ago. I haven't found a better driver or fairway wood in terms of look, feel, distance, and launch. I was tempted by a Titleist driver last year, but it still just doesn't consistently beat the Ping driver. I love my Taylor Made MB blades from about 3-4 years ago as well. Although I really should have gotten the 6.5 Rifles rather than the 6.0's. I have 6.5s on an old set of blades and like them. I did make a change last summer and got some new Vokey wedges.
  10. This is a fun year in that there's about 12 clear contenders. Last year was more of a crapshoot with clear top teams followed by weakness. To show this year's depth, there will be top 25 teams in the tournament with 10+ losses. The question is...is there a Kentucky or UCONN this year (teams that barely made the tourney last year, but made the dance)?
  11. I don't like it. I remember when the Dbacks bought a team on backloaded contracts, then paid Todd Stottlemeyer, Tony Womack, Matt Clark and other for several years after their 2001 World Series, resulting in pinched budgets
  12. that's not true, but when he sneezes it does look like a party favor
  13. his overall numbers were okay last year, but I'm baffled how that happened. Looking at splits, Kintzler had a totally bipolar season. God awful in Miller Park, very good on road. 3 bad months, 3 good months. serves it up to righties, gets lefties out. Maybe I'm remembering his months of June and August when he was getting hit hard.
  14. If I were the Phillies I would ask for Wily Peralta, Will Smith, Orlando Arcia, and Taylor
  15. KRod is a $6-8 million reliever. Realistically let's not look at the money. Let's leave that to Doug and Mark. Would he improve our bullpen? Maybe I'm still in shock from all the hammering last year, but it baffles me that Kintzler is on the 40-man roster and not a NRI.
  16. wow, pretty crazy statement to read. Nova had several crappy years but entered the tourney highly ranked last year before being knocked out over the weekend by eventual champs UCONN. Why are you writing off one of the nation's best conferences? They'll likely get 6 solid to very good teams into the Big Dance. speaking of the Dance, good to see Michigan St turning it on. They always seem to cover the spread in the NCAA. Should be 6 Big East teams and 7 Big Ten teams making the dance....good for all the Marquette and Wisconsin fans on this forum
  17. I'm fully expecting to hear Rickie Weeks couldn't see balls in the outfield, was fitted for glasses/contacts, and then has a career year.
  18. reillymcshane, my only concern is...why rush him? I look at Nelson Cruz, Jose Bautista, Jose Guillen, etc. These are guys that became stud hitters around age 30 after flaming out, sometimes with multiple clubs. I hate branding a prospect by their age. Yes, if they do great at age 22 that's wonderful. But if it's not until age 29, then so be it. You can still get good years out of them
  19. Peoria already has a nice facility for the Padres and M's. Where do they need another??? The north Valley could use something. The Northwest Valley already has 4 teams.
  20. since Patrick425 had a driving and texting rant, I'll stress my biggest driving rant. I hate it when people blatantly violate the law by not using their turn signal. They're driving a several thousand pound, gas loaded weapon at 45 mph down the road, but won't give anyone else the courtesy to let them know their intentions???!?!?!?! I wish it were a $2,000 fine for every time someone makes a lane-change in an intersection, lane change without a signal, turn without a signal, or fails to signal at least 100-feet before an intersection.
  21. not sure who I hate more on commercials....Flo from Progressive, or the young annoying one from the AT&T adds. Once I invent the Bill Walton and Phil Simms mute button, I want to find a way to block these annoying pitch people
  22. Ender, at this point I would say that our insurance policies are: Taylor Jungmann Will Smith Tyler Thornburg Hiram Burgos Brooks Hall Jed Bradley Michael Strong Johnny Hellweg (if healthy) Not a great list, but I think we could find a hot pitcher to spell us for 4-8 starts if need be. The big concern is if someone has to miss the season.
  23. Great signing. Low-risk, potentially high reward. Melvin loves to state that relievers often have great variance from year-to-year, so this is a classic move.
  24. trwi7, not sure why you think relievers magically fall off around 34. Players may fall off after 30, but they don't have to. If we have the Phillies kick in some money so that he's at around $8-9 million per year, it's a steal for us.
  25. I'm with Fondy and others. Papelbon might be a competitor but he doesn't belong in jail like Yo or KRod. This deal is a no brainier if the Phillies throw in $6-8 million, guarantee up his option, and take a middling player
