  1. I'd love to win championships. But here's a situation to ponder. I know what TheCrew thinks, but what about others: 15 of 20 years over .500, ~4-6 years of them in playoffs 4 of 20 years near 100 wins and true championship caliber teams, with the other in-between years spent re-tooling and rebuilding, including several 60-win seasons I'd rather have the team that is consistently good. If we can be good enough to be an 85-90 win team consistently, that will make us enjoyable. After the 1990s and early 2000s, I'm sick of 60-75 win baseball.
  2. Just thought I'd point out that we're .500 in May and we have a chance to win our first series. It's a marathon boys! So what if we had a bad side-ache in the first few miles, now we have a chance to make up ground!
  3. this is the move I was hoping for. Rogers , Gomez and Herrera can play 3b, with Rogers and Herrera able to play OF.
  4. I never got the trade. An avg-at-best OF for 2 prospects is frustrating. We should be moving Parra soon and getting something in return. I'm comfortable with Rogers, Clark, Schafer, and Herrera for backup OF spots if needed
  5. Has anyone noticed Austin Ross's sick numbers? http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=t5015&player_id=592697#/career/R/pitching/2015/ALL 10.2 IP 5H 1ER 2BB 16 K Tonight he struck out the side, may pitch multiple innings. It appears he's done starting, but he could be a classic example of a starter converting to reliever and his stuff gets better. Either that or he's just finally healthy.
  6. I sometimes wonder how many of these guys need glasses. We all think of the scene in Major League. But I think we've heard of Bill Hall and others that had let their vision slip without getting to the eye doctor.
  7. The team will be better. Davis isn't hitting. Braun is passing the eye test but not the result test (why I traded for him in fantasy baseball this week...too bad the trade didn't go through yet). Gomez is hurt (but wasn't hitting). Scooter hasn't done anything. Lucky hasn't either. Basically, I still believe this is an 85 win team. We just need to start winning some series. It's a marathon. We had a slow start, but we have lots of time to make up ground. In fairness, I'd almost send Jungmann and Thorny to Biloxi (or AA road games) to get them out of AA in case we do well. I can see Lohse going, but since it hasn't been mentioned, I wonder if perhaps Melvin gets the vibe that Lohse may like Milwaukee and be opening to the possibility of remaining after this year. Now is not the time to trade away parts, but rather the time to add. I could see us making a bold move with Sardinas or Arcia jumping into the lineup at 2b. I hope Scooter gets back to being his old self.
  8. I like Arcia at SS. He's still young and could fill out more, necessitating a move. Seggy has a strong arm. He could handle 2b or SS. Not sure if Scooter can handle other spots. He is a nice hitter and defender, he just needs to learn to learn to work counts and draw some walks. Rivera or Gomez is fine at Util. Sardinas is likely trade bait
  9. every game I'm amazed at how bad Braun's pitch judgement has been. In a key spot the other day, Braun got out on a 9-pitch at bat. He saw one in the strike zone, but most were clearly out. Yet Ryan only took 1 ball. Today he had a 6 pitch strikeout with 2-pitches in the zone. In general, the pitching is coming around, but we need the hitters to relax.
  10. logan, the Rangers aren't giving up anything for Hamilton per the rumors
  11. Not sure there's such a thing as ideal 3b power anymore. 10-15 is nice now
  12. Jericho, that's less than Parra makes and he's a hell of a lot better. Hamilton would be a PH threat and could accidentally hit 20 hr
  13. Isn't he still an above avg OF, playing good defense, and has had about 6 flyball outs to the fence? He's basically trying to shake off two years of rust and injury woes. I've liked what I've seen.
  14. wow. Hamilton and $75 million to the Rangers for...nothing. So Rangers will owe him $15 million over the next 3 years. I'd have done that 7 days a week (and twice on sundays)
  15. I like seeing the A+ corner outfield combo of Coulter and Roache. Throw in Arcia, and I just hope the Brewers are patient with them (despite my calls last year and all off-season for Arcia to be our SS by September)
  16. Colby, I, seeing that OBP is a skill our guys aren't learning. Are there any Carlos Quentin or Rickie Weeks-type OBP monsters we could target?
  17. Hilarious idea. But let's stick with the proven winner.
  18. I wonder if Seggy could play 3b. More importantly, would he be willing to? Could be our 3b solution for the next few years with Arcia at SS next year or late this year.
  19. Jorge Ortega....skipping from Helena to Brevard rotation and doing quite well. Nice to see an infusion of young Latin talent reaching Wisconsin and Brevard.
  20. The anecdotal evidence from broadcasts used to be that side-arm relievers can pitch almost every day. In my experience based on baseball broadcasters saying that, when my arm didn't want to loosen up, I would drop down a bit and it would come out much easier. Maybe I was weird though.
  21. Having only seen a little video of Medeiros (and plenty of scouting reports), I still can't help but think of a young Randy Johnson. It's easy to forget how in his early 20s, the Big Unit was critiqued for his weird almost side-arm angle. He really only had two pitches early in his career--fastball and slider. He had little control, but still generated few his, lots of groundouts, and plenty of K's. I'm not saying Medeiros will end up having that kind of career. But I like the low-arm angle as it's easier on the arm. At least, I think it is. I remember when I'd play catch in my teens/20s, and if my arm was stiff I would just warm up using a side-arm motion and it helped me loosen up without much effort.
  22. I have to say that our rotations are fun to follow. At every level, there's an interesting prospect throwing each day. We could use a few more studs, but it's far better than we we had Sheets, Neugebauer, and Gold as our only prospects, with Mieses and Poe as guys we pretended were prospects. Or Derek Lee?
  23. Roache is my new Brandon Katin. I loved the guy's power. He also drew walks, and I dreamed of him one day being a Rob Deer type. I'm hoping Roache learns to walk more and plays well
  24. Hamilton at $8-12 million would be a bargain. Just not sure where he would play right now. He'd make a better 4th OF than Parra. He could play 2 days per week in LF, 1 in CF, 1 in RF (Plus the inevitable Gomez and Braun injuries)
  25. It's 10 games. No reason to panic. It's frustrating watching how efficient the Cards are. It's like they know when to work the count and when to hammer first pitches. Still, our bullpen should be a strength. Our rotation should be a strength. Realistically, baseball is a game decided by winning and losing streaks. Over 120 games, teams will play roughly .500. The first place teams have more long winning streaks and fewer prolonged losing streaks. The last place teams have more losing streaks. Right now we're in a losing streak. We could just as easily win 8 of our next 10.
