  1. I'd rather trade nobody. I think we should be good for 85 wins given our rotation. I take that back, I'd trade Parra in a second. I'd also consider trading Seggy with a good year, unless they think he can play 3b.
  2. Splitter, I hope you're right. But after seeing the Brewers' college bats flop after rookie ball, I'm going to take a wait-and-see approach. Bill Scott, Tony Festa, Grant Richardson, etc etc
  3. Agreed, I'd take him in LF in a heartbeat
  4. I liked MrTPlush's tone. People were declaring him done, injured, or simply ineffective. When a guy is a lock for the roster, you don't worry about Spring Training. He was always a lock
  5. will be interesting to see how the Brewers treat prospects. With the altitude of Colorado Springs, will they be more inclined to stack it with AAAA-types and call up prospects directly from AA?
  6. fondybrewfan, I still have not seen an angle where the Duke player clearly touches the ball. There are no angles broadcast during the game that show clear, irrefutable contact. Having said that, there is one angle where you see the Duke player reach for the ball, initially miss it with all his fingers, and then his middle flinger (the entire finger, not the tip) bends backwards a microscopic amount as it goes past. But the ball does not change trajectory or rotation. If we have to use our imaginations to fill in the gaps, then that is not irrefutable evidence. I also contend the Badger committed two fouls when he was flailing his arms out of control and hit the Duke player in the head. Really, this was a VERY close call and could have gone either way. I've heard a lot of references on the internet about the Duke guard stepping out. In real time I sure thought he looked like he was flirting with the boundary. But if the announcers calling the game didn't make a big deal out of it, then why should armchair referees?
  7. I wonder what happened with NBO Joe. He was a character on here and the AOL message boards and I loved his website tributes to past Brewers. I seem to recall him having health issues, but loved his enthusiasm.
  8. adam, I agree. 3 Okafur fouls shouldn't have been called. Wisconsin was very physical but they somehow managed to get away with everything in the first half. The second half the calls caught up with them. AZBrewfan, the refs didn't blow the call. There's no visual evidence the Duke guy touched it from the awkward angles. Plus, the Badger delivered two blows to the head to the Duke player going for the board. Surprising how the refs called no-ticky tack fouls all game, except on Okafur. Still, a heck of a game and a fun one to watch. As a side note, it's been fun watching Frank's development these last two years. One of the best players in recent history for the state of Wisconsin's D1 teams. Hopefully he has a nice career in the pros.
  9. In a lot of ways the internet coverage MLB franchises has grown up as a result of fan sites like Brewerfan.net. My friend in college was a Giants/A's fan, but he would come here to check out thoughts on prospects. I miss a lot of the old posters. I miss all sorts of conversations--OPS, AVG, WARP, or the eye test? I found the site in college thanks to Jim Powell, and now I'm a 34 year old HS teacher and golf coach.
  10. Sometimes (like with Coulter) the Brewers like to push a kid to Wisconsin to see how they do. The expectation is that they'll be returned to AZ/Helena in June, but sometimes they do well.
  11. I definitely see Harvey re-emerging somewhere down the road. He had great numbers, although I can't say I ever saw him. Disappointing for Garza as he seemed to be very much in the organization's plans early on
  12. JohnBriggs, didn't that sort of happen with Hector Gomez? After never experiencing offensive success in AA or A+, he was promoted to AAA last year and had a breakout year? Not saying it's common, but just saying your statement was inaccurate
  13. to be honest, the last time I was excited by Morris was when he played 3b a few games. He's had one very good minor league season and many bad ones. I never understood why people were anointing him the 1b of the future when he screamed more like Kevin Barker and Brad Nelson Clark and Rogers are better players, and Ramirez has shown better OBP skills.
  14. I think the reason Clark was demoted was so that he can play every day. Sounds like the Brewers aren't convinced Lind can play everyday and they want him ready in AAA.
  15. easy decision....Herrera. Schafer won't play much as a 5th OF. He needs to play every day in AAA. Herrera can cover us in a pinch everywhere. He's better to have as the 25th man
  16. Remember Kelly Wunsch? Too bad we didn't figure out his role, as he had a nice career.
  17. RoCo, I'd love to think that. My gripes on selection Sunday were primarily that N. Iowa should have been a 2-4 (not 5), Utah should have been a 3-4, and Wichita St should have been a 3-5. Everyone that watched basketball this year knew that Kansas was a vulnerable 2. It's amazing how many Kansas fans in Vegas last week were betting New Mexico St. My point is that their opponents need to respect these schools for their intense defense and solid play rather than view them as lower/weaker seeds.
  18. Makes sense. I've seen him have some good at bats and hard hit balls off of lefties this week
  19. still rooting for Wichita State and Utah to keep advancing. These two--despite being in the Top 10 for much of the year--haven't gotten any love this tourney.
  20. I'd guess the backup spots go: OF-- Parra Util--H. Gomez Util--Herrera Util--Clark C--Maldy
  21. Was at the game last night. Saw a fairly tall, lanky lefty in the game in the 8th inning and (correctly) guessed it was Bradley. I'm no expert, but I swear he was tipping pitches. Sitting behind home plate, I saw a pitcher that used his legs differently for fastballs and off-speed selections. On off-speed, he dropped his lead foot and then would take a short stride forward to the plate (Think Carlos Villanueva). On fastballs (registering 89-93) he cleared his hips early and took a longer stride. May not mean much, but we correctly predicted his last several pitches based on this pattern we saw in his first few. Not sure if that gives a hitter enough time to jump on pitches, but that's at least what I noticed and my friend agreed with.
  22. Well, back after a tough opening weekend in Vegas. Vegas made a lot of money tues-fri on games. I believe only 4 of the 20 favorites covered their point spreads on Tuesday-thurs. but there weren't many upsets. Still a fun tourney so far. Congrats to Bucky fans. They're doing fine, although they'll have two tough games to win if they want a Final 4 berth.
  23. Brew4u, I forgot that Grand Canyon Univ is investing a crap-ton of money in updating Maryvale Golf Course to bring it up to D1 standards. For a bargain, there's Aguila Golf Course in the southwest valley.
  24. Congrats to Bucky fans. Amazing how they always seem to benefit from other teams making mistakes. All Valentine needed to do was hold it, and MSU wins. But I've gotten used to seeing Wisconsin win games that nobody else could win due to half-court shots and brainfarts. Now on a more serious note...I would think rankings matter, but apparently not. Wichita St should be a 3/4, but they're a 7? Maryland should be a 2/3, but they're a 4? Northern Iowa should be a 2/3, but they're a 5? Utah should be a 2/3, but they're a 5? Dayton winning the conference and coming up just short in the Tourney, but being given a play-in game?? The A-10 deserved 4 or 5 teams, yet their best team wound up with a play-in game? Some of this reminds me of that one year ('97 or 98) when College of Charleston was like #18 in the country but landed something like a 14-seed.
  25. DKM4Boston, interesting thoughts. I can definitely justify Wisconsin as a #1 with their past performance, star players, and blowouts. Duke had a harder strength of schedule, with Virginia slightly behind Wisconsin. I can't help but wonder if the committee will punish Wisconsin because of the Big Ten's down year. You have Kansas listed as a possible 2-seed (you're not alone). I can't fathom that. I know that I'll be taking whoever they play when in Vegas this week. They're a team that's young and shown a lot of vulnerability this year. The benefit from them is they're truly battle-tested by playing a rough Big 12 schedule. Virginia has to be a 1, don't they? Arizona played in a weak Pac-12. The positive is they did beat Utah twice, which is incredible since Utah plays great defense. I really hope Lunardi is right and the MVC teams are 4/5 seeds. Same for Utah. Those could be 3 easy games to load up with my money in Vegas. All play very good defense and are fundamentally sound. If they get a line of -8 to -12, EASY MONEY!!
