  1. AzBrewCrew understands. Everytime Yo throws in Houston or Phoenix, there's tons of excitement that is created. People have speculated for years about how he'd be a great addition to the teams. The Mexican-American communities don't really identify with Latin players from throughout the Caribbean, Latin America, or South America. They tend to idolize the best Mexican players. Given that teams are for-profit, many have speculated how many Gallardo jerseys would be sold if he pitched for SD, LA, Hou, TX, or Phx. Therefore, I would speculate we could potentially use them to get more out of those particular clubs.
  2. The Brewers opened the season 9-deep in their rotation with Gallardo, Lohse, Garza, Peralta, Estrada, Thornberg, Smith, Fiers, Nelson, and Burgos. Obviously Burgos has been let go and Thorny can't be counted on in 2015, but that's a lot of options. The player I would most shop is Yo, given a couple of things. First of all, I don't know anything about his love for the organization or city. He might be willing to extend at a fair price. But realistically, a quality Mexican-American pitcher would be really desired in Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, LA, or San Diego. We could probably get a pretty good return considering he is only signed for 2015 and his number have been in decline. I like the Yo for Napoli idea. What about Yo for Andre Ethier (and cash)? He's due $53.5 million for the next 3 years (plus 2018 option). If we could get the Dodgers to eat about $10 million of that, we could acquire him to play 1b (he's only played two games there). He's fallen out of the rotation in LA, would provide balance to the lineup, has good career OBP. Why would the Dodgers do this? So they aren't paying $53.5 million to a bench player. Think we could throw together a package to re-acquire Fielder from the Rangers?
  3. just curious people's thoughts....Hardy played only 26 games in AAA and 152 in AA (over 2 seasons). Is it possible---if Arcia and Segura continue like this season--that we might have Arcia starting at SS in 2016? He'd be 22.
  4. Just wondering, but is it a lock that Coulter is Brewers minor league player of the year? Rogers has good numbers as well. Who else?
  5. plus if a guy might be removed from the 40-man in the off-season and consider leaving...would be nice to have September's big league pay in the back of his mind when accepting where to sign as a minor league FA
  6. damn, looked like he was on 1st when the ball was caught. But I can see why he didn't waste a challenge
  7. I'm going to call a win today and 3 times on base for Scooter. He batted leadoff when we got hot in June
  8. Hunter Morris will likely be outrighted to AAA. given his VERY strong numbers at every stop AND left-handedness, I would consider promoting Mike Strong in September to see if his stuff is worth being on the 40-man roster next year. Now that he's in AA, he's a rule 5 candidate. Tommy Toledo could be a candidate had good numbers till this year. Was it a stuff issue or injury? I'd like to have Prince, Rivera, and Shaw back for AA/AAA depth. All three can play SS with Prince and Shaw are OBP machines.
  9. Gomez has been in a prolonged slump, as has Braun. I would like to see us return to a form of the June lineup that caught fire. 2b braun lucroy gomez Ramirez Davis 1b SS pitcher
  10. This reminds me of how there was one poster that kept ridiculing Braun and his elbow in his swing, saying he'd never hit for power. Another question. When Ben Sheets got to the big leagues he was not a strikeout pitcher. He was a 2-pitch guy with a 91 mph sinker and a big power curve. In the high minors and MLB he didn't strike many out. Then in 2004 (year 3) he went to a 4-seamer and instantly saw his velocity jump to the 96-98 mph range. Suddenly Ben's heater had a 14 mph difference from his curve instead of a 7 mph difference. Additionally, he discovered his new secret weapon (what many never noticed)--the high cheese. Fans will forever his curve, but the high cheese racked up a large percentage of those strikeouts once he went to a 4-seamer. Why did this change? We just sort of assumed Ben was taught to pitch-to-contact and get grounders in the low minors. When he switched the 4-seamer, he became a much better pitcher. Is it possible that Jungmann is taking a similar path? Does he throw a 2-seamer but still have a 96mph 4-seamer in his back pocket?
  11. AZBrewCrew, pretty crazy weather today. I can't recall a monsoon starting at 7 am like today. It was a mess driving in to work/school during flash flooding. Driving home was better, but there's been two more waves to move through and another one is coming in about 40 minutes.
  12. If he has to be added to the 40-man roster this off-season, then there's a chance. Even if he only gets in a few games it makes sense. It would also show what the Crew thinks about him.
  13. Peralta is still just scratching the surface with his 98 mph sinker. I'll take my chances with him over Yo any time. If he develops a true strikeout pitch...lookout! As for Ramirez and K-Rod...they've both made it known--as endaround said--that they like Milwaukee. I wouldn't be surprised to see both extended for 2-3 years
  14. guylanderfridancies, You're forgetting that Fresno to SFO is probably 3-5 hours depending on traffic. The shortest itineraries from SFO to MKE are 5.5 hours + a 2 hour time change. I think there's only one non-stop, so that would cut down on my 5.5 hr timeframe assuming a player can make the flight. Will it affect things a lot, no. But it could mean we see more callups from AA like many other teams do.
  15. I'd also consider former top prospect Jeremy Hermida. While he's older than Gindl, he might be a better 4th OF next year than Schafer, Parra, or Gindl. He's lefty, plays good D, has some speed and some pop, and has MLB experience
  16. I used to really like how Yost always gave his starters the chance to go the extra inning. Ron seems to be the opposite this year.
  17. Yo better be allowed to try to finish. My only beef with Ron has been that sometimes he makes pitching changes when starters are dominating and have manageable pitch counts. Last night I would have kept Nelson in another inning or so.
  18. Thinking about some potential log-jams....not sure what we do. SP: Yo, Garza, Lohse, Peralta, Nelson, Fiers, Thornburg, Smith, Pena, Hellweg, Burgos, Jungmann, Bradley, etc SS: Segura, Arcia We'll likely pick up Ramirez's option or extend him. He can play 1b or 3b. I'd rather have another year of Overbay and Reynolds than Morris. But perhaps Rogers could play 1b or 3b. Might we be able to trade a pitcher or Segura for a young talented 1b or 3b??
  19. at this point I would probably activate/recall: Wooten Wang Blazek Pena Rogers Gindl/Schafer (Gindl if prioritize offense, Schafer if want speed/D) I could also see Josh Prince's contract being purchased for base running and versatility
  20. I think what we could see is a change and more pitching prospects jump from AA to the majors. If a player is called up following a game on the east coast, he can arrive in just a few hours. With a call up from podunk California (been through Fresno a lot and it's not impressive), a player may be lucky to arrive in Milwaukee by game time the next day. I sure hope this isn't true. And I also don't get the argument. Currently there is a franchise in Nashville, but the article is written proclaiming that there is no tenant.
  21. Since when is a 4.76 ERA awful? Isn't that a #2 or 3? And that's in his worst year. I'm not worried at all about him,
  22. I see Wooten, Pena, and Jackson being called up for pitchers. Fiers also...if Garza is back
  23. I'm assuming Pena's power arm will join the pen. I could see him helping setup at times too. Wooten will be back. Who else though?
  24. Wang with a nice outing tonight in Maryvale. Can't believe they're playing in the monsoons the last few days
  25. I've met lots of Dakotans here in Arizona, and they are all Packers fans. Not sure if it's because they love the Packers, or because they hate Minnesotans. But I've found that very interesting
