  1. I think if you always take a team's worst players, you'll find a similar result. Why not include last year's worst player--Maldanado--to see how it skews things?
  2. also one other thing I hadn't thought about in the past. When doing large-scale promotions, the team needs to help players get settled in unfamiliar environments, find lodging, get their cars there, etc. For many kids that might struggle with moves, it's probably better they do 1 promotion a year.
  3. just curious, but why is the arm slot such a concern about the 1st rounder? According to all these comments from "experts", Randy Johnson's arm-slot would have him pegged for LOOGY status rather than the Hall of Fame.
  4. Some have anointed Hunter Morris the 1b of the future for 2 years now. I've never been sold on him due to limited OBP/OPS. I'm not saying I'm sold on Nick Ramirez (I've never seen Ramirez or Morris), but are we at least sure Hunter is the better prospect? Last I checked, Ramirez had better numbers in a league that's traditionally more of a pitchers' league.
  5. Given his career numbers aren't terrible, I'd consider bringing up Jeremy Hermida to play LF and let Davis go down to AAA for a bit.
  6. I also will say I agree about the specialization in sports. I don't know if it happens in WI these days. When I graduated high school in 1999, the top athletes all played 2-4 sports. It shocked me when I started working in education in Arizona and saw kids specializing in golf, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, etc. I coach HS girls golf and am really proud that two of my top golfers are softball players (one has a full ride to play for Univ of Arizona and is likely to win her 2nd AZ female athlete of the year award already despite being a junior) and the other is a legit softball prospect getting college looks. The physical requirements of other sports may balance out the demands of their primary sports on their bodies. Plus, the mental break is healthy. And lastly, I am confident my golfers are better softball players because of golf, and also better golfers because of softball.
  7. I have no problem with the 194 pitches based on what the reports say. This kid says he's a non-prospect and is hoping for a chance in DII. If he were a DI signee or draft prospect, this would have been a major concern. But I'll say good for the kid. I didn't even play in HS, just up till 15 in little league. When my little league would waive the innings limit at the end of each season because of the required doubleheaders (due to Wisconsin weather) it was not uncommon for me to throw both games of a doubleheader. I didn't play in HS and didn't play in college. But it gave me pride that I could do everything for the team.
  8. Josh Prince is quietly turning around his season while playing 2b. Interesting that he's an OBP machine, can play multiple spots, and hits righty. Might he be the potentially right-handed platoon partner for Scooter (and super-utility on other days)
  9. Also, players must pay clubhouse dues of around $10/day (depending on level) for locker room services including pre-/post-game meals, shoe service, bat boy, laundry service, etc
  10. TheCrew07, you have many good points above. One question though is with the honesty of the players. I've known a lot of baseball players and I've never known one to say "hey coach, I'm hurt." Most people also fear having surgery (recall the stories of kids dying from tonsil removals or wisdom teeth). So in many cases where a doctor says rest MAY help heal a problem, players are often likely to agree to it. I think some of your critiques are more for the culture of the player toughness and should not be held against the Brewers franchise.
  11. The play Scooter made to lead off the top of the 9th....Weeks definitely doesn't make the play
  12. It sure is crazy seeing Hector Gomez with good numbers
  13. Weeks is terrible at 2b. I agree that he became adequate for a little while. But every game we watch him now we see his range fail to get to routine balls that Scooter or Bianchi easily get to. His glove is unsure and his throwing mechanics have always looked lazy (like Brandon Phillips, only ineffective. Plus, when he covers bunts at first he shies away from the throws. Weeks may have a stronger arm, but Scooter ranks better across the board. Maybe Melvin is hoping for the NL to add the DH for Weeks
  14. I'd take my time with Bradley. We've seen this before in his first season ('12??) when he was unhittable then terrible. I say let him earn his promotion over more than 5 weeks
  15. I argued in spring training that Weeks needed to play every day to see if he had anything left. Scooter should have been in AAA. But then the Brewers never gave Weeks a start against a righty in April (only tough lefties), and I learned to accept it as Scooter's defense is significantly better. I wish Rickie would return to the OF as a chance to play nearly every day. They could play him deep to protect his reads and the nice thing is that he wouldn't have many groundballs to misplay.
  16. Green isn't on the 40-man, so that does complicate things. As for Morris, not sure why he should "finally given a chance" when he didn't deserve one before. He's working on deserving one right now, especially with another homer today. I'd just rather wait...he screams Kevin Barker to me.
  17. Remember, most lefty batters in MLB are natural righties. I think you mean because he started switch hitting so recently
  18. Princefielderx1...rickie does have options remaining, but he has enough service time he could refuse
  19. I remember working in the Fall League and having a conversation with a trainer in which he pointed out a baseball study that showed that if a pitcher has arm surgery while in the minors, there's less than a 10% chance of reaching the big leagues.
  20. Crazy since Weeks played OF in college. He's absolutely terrible at 2b. Scooter can't outhit Rickie, but needs to play for defense.
  21. interesting to see some of the stats. I like seeing Jungmann's K/IP. That's progress. lots of decent WHIP's for the pitchers.
  22. Gene, have fun at the games! it's been a long time we've communicated online about the Brewers on the AOL Brewers message board, AOL/AIM, and now on Brewerfan. best wishes
  23. Weeks needs to start for 3-4 days to see what he's got,
  24. Zarraga was great in his debut, but then seemed to lose some luster. We know that he's only been switch hitting for about 2 full seasons, so that has affected his power. He's intriguing and it's interesting to hear he wasn't dedicated until this year
  25. Some brewers fans were doing it at quiet moments late tonight. I noticed it after last night
