  1. Of course Cobb is better than Suter or Wilkerson, but not on a 4 year deal at age 30. Garza's age 25-29 seasons: FIP (weighted): 3.90, K/9: 8.0, BB/9: 2.9, HR/9: 1.0; slightly, but not significantly, worse than Cobb's career so far. You also missed one critical factor with Cobb - he's only started more than 30 games in a season once, and that was back in 2012. Garza started at least 30 games in a season six times through age 29. Garza through age 29 looks a lot like Cobb through age 29, but was much more durable. At this point, unless I can get a TOR guy (and Darvish really was the only one - CURSE THE CUBS!), then I'll stay out of the free agent market except to re-sign Walker and add Lucroy, then try to work a deal to bring a TOR guy to Milwaukee, probably centered on a package consisting of one of Santana/Arcia and one of Davies/Woodruff, with Ortiz and Nottingham (or some other prospects along those lines). Adding Lucroy and Walker and another SP in a Santana deal works for me as it significantly lengthens the lineup while adding another arm. I still would love for TB to be the one stop shop for a deal. Santana for Odorizzi and Colome (who is under contract until after 2020) would work for me. Run out a lineup, pitching staff and bullpen of: Cain Yelich Braun Shaw Lucroy Walker Thames Arcia Anderson Davies Odorizzi Chacin Woodruff/Nelson Knebel Colome Hader That is a very solid squad.
  2. I agree with your hierarchy of Arrieta>Darvish>Cobb>Lynn as well as Cobb>Burnes for Archer. The question I am having with myself is if the Brewers were to sign Cobb, would that eliminate them from trading for Odorizzi? Anderson-Cobb-Davies-Odorizzi-Chacin/Woodruff. If I were Stearns, I would be building the rotation not expecting to ever see the 2017 Nelson again. Odorizzi provides another bridge piece to Burnes-Woodruff-Ortiz etc...
  3. I would prefer Arrieta as his ceiling is TOR whereas Cobb's ceiling is probably a mid-low end #2. However, as was mentioned Cobb is probably a good compromise between potential and cost. Cobb for 4 years at anything under $60 million is a good deal.
  4. 1 year @ $10 million, could be 2 for $22 million.
  5. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/blue-jays-sign-jaime-garcia.html Blue Jays...1 year @ $8 million
  6. Seems like this may have been a reason why the rumored Santana-Salazar deal was never completed. If I am the Brewers, I am not dealing Santana for possibly damaged goods when there are other options out there and available.
  7. I doubt this moves the needle to moving him but it does show how bad the arbitration process is in baseball.
  8. Which was decided today per Heyman. Odorizzi won. Good question and could be good news for teams wanting him given the Rays are supposedly trying to clear payroll.
  9. Moves like these (Miley, Gallardo, Milone) always make me think the Brewers will be dealing say Woodruff as part of the package for Archer. Pure depth and prevention in case one of the regular 5 get hurt.
  10. If Todd Frazier can get 2 years @ $17 million, I think Lucroy, who has had one down year, can as well.
  11. Arrieta for 4 years $88 million OR Cobb for 4 years $60 million
  12. Honestly, I would bring Lucroy back in without hesitation on a 2 year $16 - $20 million deal. I think C is the biggest question on offense, yes more than 2B. Pina's D will always play but I am very concerned about him regressing on offense.
  13. I posted this a few days ago but to reiterate...I want the Brewers to sign Arrieta because he just seems like the type of dude who will absolutely be focused to prove his doubters wrong. I would love to get a chip on the shoulder Arrieta in Milwaukee for the next 4-5 years.
  14. If Braun to 1B is a mirage, where does he play? You don't acquire Yelich to play him out of position in RF, and while I suppose Braun could play in RF, he's not the ideal solution there, either. I agree that there are likely several personnel moves this team has left to make, because the makeup of the roster doesn't make a lot of sense. I would imagine Santana, Broxton and one of Thames/Aguiar are all on the trade block, which opens up 1B for Braun to be part of a platoon there, with the rest of Braun's starts coming in LF, giving Yelich breathers or kicking Yelich to CF to give Cain breathers. I still believe that Phillips will see most of the time in RF. Braun will be in the OF. Braun-Cain-Yelich with Phillips as the 4th OF. Santana and maybe Broxton will be moved. I just don't see Braun being successful at 1B. Trust me, I hope I am wrong because having Braun and Santana in the lineup would be amazing. I just don't see it.
  15. I agree with Boomer. Even if the Brewers didn't value Brinson, Harrison and Diaz as much, they still had enormous value in the trade market. That package may have gotten you Archer or Stroman but instead they got Yelich. A rotation headlined by Archer or Stroman and an OF without Yelich (Braun-Cain-Santana) may be a better team than what the Brewers will be putting out there in 2018. There was no discount in acquiring Yelich. 5 years and $80 million for a 32-36 year old season for a CF is no discount. While I love both moves, the acquisition of both tells me the Brewers have more moves to make. Braun to first is a mirage IMO and you can't play Santana part time and expect him to hold whatever value he currently has. Same with Broxton. The Brewers can't be rooting for an injury to one of the OF but that is the only way enough playing time is opened up for Braun-Yelich-Cain-Santana-Broxton-Phillips. Stearns has a trade to make and will do so prior to Opening Day.
  16. If the Brewers can sign Cobb for roughly what it cost the Cubs to acquire Chatwood that is a win. The Brewers need to look at Cobb as their acquisition to counter Chatwood. They still have work to do to counter Darvish.
  17. I would do that deal as well. Diplan’s ceiling is probably Odorizzi and Dubon is a super utility guy in the Majors whose role could be covered by Perez. If that’s what TB wants, I’m good with it.
  18. If you check Stroman’s twitter feed, he’s also been in the Phoenix area the last few days.
  19. I looked at Heyman's twitter and didn't see anything about this... just wondering where you saw this at? https://www.mlb.com/news/jake-arrieta-free-agent-rumors/c-266032400
  20. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/jake-arrieta-turned-down-six-year-offer-from-cubs.htmlOh wow...Arrieta must think he will get the 6 year and/or $22-$25 per year. Knowing Boras, he will. Best guess now is 6 years $135 from Washington who will be all in knowing they won’t be able to re-sign Harper. Arrieta is just too rich for Milwaukee blood.
  21. With no stats or advanced metrics to prove my point, I want Arrieta bad now. Just seems like the type of dude who will have a massive chip on his shoulder given how negotiations reportedly went down with the Cubs.
  22. For what it’s worth, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago tweeted his belief that Arietta will end up in Milwaukee or Washington for a higher AAV and shorter deal than Darvish.
  23. I really am starting to believe that Arrieta will be a Brewer
  24. Oakland is already an easy team to root for and having Santana and Davis in the middle of the lineup would make it even easier. Back on topic, I believe the Brewers are holding out hope for the price coming down on Archer. He is Option A for the Brewers at this point. They will wait until they can't wait any longer. If things did fall apart, I believe Option B is the Indians for Salazar. Option C would be to move Santana for a Puk-like prospect. I am excited for one of these to break as I believe all of these would be good moves to solidify the rotation long term.
  25. I hope the Brewers are able to sign one of the FAs in order to move Domingo for SP prospects. I think this is the winning formula for this offseason and am glad it has been discussed.
