  1. I was wondering what I would find when I opened this thread... Prince of Roy's post from 2006 stating it would take Capuano, Jenkins, Turnbow and the prospects of Braun and Gallardo would have been a ton for a small market team to give up for A-Rod.
  2. Option #4: The Front Office realizes they are still a year away given Nelson's injury and current state of the SP on the farm. As such, they aren't willing to sink $ into players (Cobb) that may have their results replicated by Burnes, Woodruff, Ortiz as soon as 2019 as well as possibly precluding them from extending Shaw, Arcia, etc... If Nelson's injury never occurred, then perhaps the Brewers may have taken the dive and signed Alex Cobb to have Nelson-Anderson-Cobb to compete with Scherzer-Strasburg-Gonzalez or Darvish-Quintana-Hendricks or Kershaw-Hill-Wood. However, with Nelson's injury, the addition of Cobb still likely leaves the Brewers an elite arm short of being able to realistically beat any of the aforementioned in a 5 or 7 game series. While I don't agree or disagree, I think this is the Brewers FO opinion of where they stand in 2018.
  3. I choose B...especially since the question didn't specify that I would know prior that they wouldn't win the World Series. I want to enjoy every year of Brewer baseball with the idea they will be competitive and fighting for a championship. I liken it to the Packers since Rodgers became the QB. While the playoff losses have been crushing (2014 Seahawks NFC championship game, 2015 Cardinals Divisional, 2012 49ers Divisional, 2011 Giants Divisional) every season I feel like they have a shot at winning the Super Bowl and that sure has made for a fun decade of Packer football.
  4. No...I would trade Keon for him and take on a portion of that contract. No interest in dealing Domingo for him though.
  5. The Brewers aren't getting Cobb but I don't believe it is because of money. I believe the FO sees Burnes, Peralta, Woodruff and perhaps Ortiz as being exceptionally close to being in the MLB rotation and the cost differential between them and Cobb doesn't warrant his signing. With Anderson and Davies already established and Chacin, Miley and Suter as holdovers, I think the Brewers are fully anticipating Burnes, Nelson and Woodruff in the rotation come the all star break.
  6. That sure is an excellent top 3. While all are quite good, if the Brewers can get a healthy Braun for 140 games, I wouldn't be surprised if all three are around 100 runs, 15-30 SBs and .300 AVG.
  7. I have resigned myself, especially after listening to Stearns on MLB Network Radio today, that the Brewers are looking at Miley/Guerra/Suter as holdovers in the rotation until Nelson, Burnes, Woodruff and Peralta are ready to join the rotation. While I think just bringing in Cobb would enable the Brewers to stay in the playoff race and that by running a combination of those players in the #4 and #5 spots the Brewers playoff chances in 2018 will be remote, I understand the small market mentality. I hope their assessment is correct and will enable the Brewers to retain those players they deem building blocks in the future.
  8. I am just as ready as everyone else for this all to end. Just sign with the Brewers or someone else and let's get going! Ready for the season.
  9. Both went to teams where they are clear upgrades with no question about playing time. Both would be questionable upgrades with the Brewers, and probably have to share time. We traded for Walker last year to be an upgrade to the exact same guys we're now going to use. We paid him more for half a season then what he's making for a full season with the Yankees. If we need the money to sign Cobb, then I understand, but if we passed and don't sign the one remaining pitching upgrade, I will be confused. We brought in two outfielders when we were stocked in the OF, and have not addressed our biggest needs which were finding another starting pitcher and an everyday second baseman. This offseason is kind of like buying a 2nd and 3rd home and leaving ourselves without enough money to afford a car to drive to get you there. I'm excited about the season but it's odd that we're going to have an All-Star caliber OF sitting the bench everyday watching some AAAA guys play. This. You perfectly summed up my feelings on the 2018 Brewers roster construction.
  10. I totally understood your point. I am merely speaking to those moves in a vacuum with everything else being equal.
  11. I concur. Taking a realistic view of the NL as well with improvements from the Giants, Phillies, Mets specifically, I think the Brewers will be competitive this season but may have been passed by a # of teams given the lack of Nelson and the replacements that will be in the rotation.
  12. We have no idea how affordable they'd be for the Brewers. It's understandable that Walker may prefer playing in NY, that Lucroy would not want to come back to MKE, that Luc would also see less competition in Oakland and therefore all of those things may make the cost a lot higher if the Brewers truly wanted these players. Sure...and that is valid. My point is not about the playing time or where people prefer to play. Rather my point is about our disappointment levels as fans given the Brewers could have added Lucroy and Walker to the lineup for $11 million total and still haven't upgraded the rotation. That's all.
  13. Man...we were set up to be disappointed with the media speculating the Brewers would get one of the Big 4 pitchers and so far going 0-3, but these relatively affordable deals for Walker and Lucroy really hurt.
  14. Especially when Puk was your guy, like he was mine, going into that draft. How the Brewers passed on Puk at 5 will stick with me for their careers.
  15. I have to believe that his comments about the Brewers not contending really rubbed teammates and people in the front office the wrong way. He made too much sense to not be back in Milwaukee...i mean short of the living legend Wade Miley taking his #.
  16. Will he be dealt at the deadline again? Unreal how Gomez and Lucroy played out given how good they were in Milwaukee. Kudos to Melvin and Stearns for dealing them at the perfect time.
  17. $21 million per is what Darvish got and I foresee him touching that without the two extra years.
  18. I think it’s time to start putting in your guesses for the contract Arrieta ultimately signs...I’ll go with 4 years $84 million.
  19. Per Yahoo... 1 year $6.5 million with a $15 million mutual option. Wow.
  20. Not Brewers related but it will be interesting to see a Boras client have to take a 1 year deal.
  21. Interesting that the gambling industry sees the Brewers needs at SP
  22. The Brewers primary logo was the Brewers script on the ball posted earlier. Similar to the Yankees with bat and hat and the Dodgers with the red flying ball. That was the official mark of the organization. The M with Barley was only the hat logo. While this may seem like much ado about nothing, the M with Barley will now be the official logo the Brewers use to promote the ballclub.
  23. This Barrelman logo from the YOUniform contest in 2013 should have been implemented into the Brewers uniform in some fashion. This is an excellent combination of the original Barrelman with the current barley.
  24. I agree 100%. The hat logos are very clean and quite good. The former primary logo, as well as the alternate Milwaukee logo below have always looked like the baseball was sitting on top of a spinning record. 25. Speaking of TB: http://www.tbo.com/blogs/rays/2018/03/07/rays-pitching-prospect-jose-de-leon-headed-for-tommy-john-surgery/ First Honeywell and now De Leon. Gotta feel bad for the Rays.
