  1. Is adding the DH something that can occur in the middle of the CBA? I thought I read that adding the DH can only occur as part of the next CBA.
  2. I would also prefer something be done at catcher more than 2nd base. Generally i try avoiding hyperbolic statements, but Vogt just might have the worst arm that i can recall from a Brewers catcher over the last two decades or so. It's like watching Khris Davis try to throw out a guy tagging up from thirdbase. No arm strength and inaccurate. This has been the most underrated concern on the MLB roster in my opinion. I love Pina's D but if his O dips at all, he is essentially Martin Maldonado. Now being Maldonado, the reigning Gold Glove winner in the AL, isn't terrible but the other options Vogt, Bandy, Bethancourt do not inspire a lot of confidence.
  3. Braun has been asked multiple times about moving to 1B and his answers always conclude with something similar to what he stated here. Responses carry the caveat of "depending on the complexion of our team at the beginning of the year." Reading between the lines and given his status within the organization, I have to believe that Stearns and Counsell have informed Braun that a trade is still quite possible to clear up the OF logjam, which likely means Santana being dealt. I wonder how long the Brewers will wait and how Braun's ability to handle 1B will impact potential trade packages.
  4. The larger point in my original post on the topic was there are some serious question marks at 2B and C currently. Can Villar bounce back to something resembling 2016? Will Pina regress with the bat in his hands? With players like Walker and Lucroy still out there, I would certainly take my chances with their consistency in their careers rather than hoping Villar bounces back and Pina sustains a breakout season at 30.
  5. If there ever was an offseason the Brewers could go for it without mortgaging the future it is now. Regardless of what has been said by Stearns or the Brewers FO, if the Brewers were able to sign Walker and Lucroy to a 1 or 2 year deals with incentives to lengthen the lineup it makes all the sense in the world. There is no 2B or C prospect that is having time taken away or development impeded by the presence of Walker and Lucroy for a year or two. A lineup consisting of these players adds significant length and is a championship level lineup, and the bench of (Thames, Pina, Villar, Perez, Broxton/Phillips) is quite good as well. Cain Yelich Braun Shaw Santana Walker Lucroy Arcia Going a step further and adding the rotational piece can also be included if the contract is manipulated to add $ at the back end of the contract. Say Cobb at 4 years and $60 million, you give him $10 in 2018 and $15 in 2019 and $20 in 2020 once Lucroy and Walker are off the books. It just seems there is some really low hanging fruit out there still that can make the 2018 Brewers significantly better.
  6. I would rather give Villar a shot with Sogard/Perez as the fallback option. If all three fail, I imagine Lowrie will still be available.
  7. I much prefer to follow the analytical evaluation than the crap “prestige” evaluation by Boras. "Prestige" is useless if he can't pitch like an ace. Boras, please be informed that "prestige" don't win championships, teams should only be paying $100M if they think he can pitch like an ace in most of the duration of the contract. After reading the article, I think the Brewers should not offer Arrieta a $100M contract, the most I'd offer is 4/80. I just see a very good lineup surrounded by what could be a very mediocre rotation. I am a believer in Anderson and Davies as a 2 & 3/4, Chacin as a 4/5 and Woodruff as someone who could be as good as Narveson was in 2011 in the 5 spot. However, there remains a large hole in the rotation right now and I am not willing to bet the season that Nelson will return in June as the Nelson of old. If the plan is to rely on Burnes or Peralta coming up midseason and being a pseudo-trade deadline acquisition, I think that is also a flawed plan. I am in no way advocating a deal of the farm to acquire a TOR. However, I am advocating making some type of acquisition to ensure the Brewers fill out a competitive rotation in 2018.
  8. I am not losing my patience. However, I am frustrated that the Brewers upgraded two positions that were considered to be at worst league average (RF, CF) and have yet to address the gaping hole at the top of the rotation with Nelson's injury. If Nelson were healthy, then sure the Brewers don't necessarily need to make an addition. He isn't though and the cost of acquisition mid-season if he doesn't bounce back will VERY high. I love the Cain and Yelich moves but the offseason is incomplete without addressing SP.
  9. I don't recall this. I would imagine that is the absolute ceiling of what he can expect now.
  10. I really think the NL Wild Card is going to be a blast this year. For argument's sake, let's say the chalk becomes a reality and the Dodgers-Cubs-Nationals win the divisions. That leaves 12 teams to battle it out for 2 wild cards. Realistically: -2 teams are most assuredly out (Marlins, Reds); -4 will need all of the breaks to contend (Pirates, Phillies, Braves and Padres); -6 start as legitimate contenders (Brewers, Cardinals, Rockies, Giants, Diamondbacks and Mets) Looking at those 6 contenders, the Brewers need a TOR as the Giants (Bumgarner), Diamondbacks (Greinke) and Mets (Syndergaard/de Grom) are significantly better in a one game playoff.
  11. https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-baseball-picking-jake-arrieta-new-team/ Sure does seem Arrieta would sign a 5 year $125 million if it were offered. I imagine the Brewers are somewhere around the 5 years $100 million they offered Braun, Fielder, Greinke, etc... I would go to 5 years $110-$115 million but that's just me.
  12. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/rays-to-sign-carlos-gomez.html 1 years $4 million plus incentives per Topkin at Tampa Bay Times. Like the move for them but hate it for the proposed Domingo to Rays trade idea. Good luck GoGo!
  13. If Villar could bounce back to the average of his 2016 and 2017 #s (.267/.339/.422 15 HR 52 SBs), he is a very valuable player in the #7 spot. However, his time should be limited to 2018 and maye 2019 assuming Hiura is the player we hope he is. Rather than hope he can bounce back, I would take the more sure thing in Neil Walker whose 2016-2017 average #s are similar .274/.355/.458, 18 HRs but have been consistent over a longer period of time.
  14. I will be supremely disappointed if the Brewers do not add another SP this offseason. As has been mentioned previously, the window is just opening for the Brewers to make the playoffs and they need to take advantage of it. As currently constructed though, they are an SP or two short specifically at the top of the rotation. Looking at the list above and add in San Francisco (Bumgarner, Cueto), St. Louis (Martinez, Wacha) New York (Syndergaard, de Grom) and the Brewers are certainly a step below most of those teams. Nelson and Anderson are certainly competitive if healthy, but Nelson isn't and may never be again. Archer and Anderson or Arrieta and Anderson certainly puts the Brewers back in the conversation with most of these teams. While I love Davies, he is an ideal 3 or 4 in the rotation in comparison against most of the top teams in the NL.
  15. Regardless of whether or not you want the Brewers to trade for him, I like how Archer handled this question by speaking of the personal and professional differences of feelings.
  16. 2018 Salaries Archer contract has him making $6.4m Proposed Contracts Walker 2 years $18m ($9 AAV) Cobb 4 years $60m ($15m) I think the AAV of the contracts are pretty fair. Assume Arrieta wants $22m per, you can get Archer, Walker and Cobb for $30m. Go to work DS and get this team: 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Braun 4. Shaw 5. Walker 6. Thames 7. Pina 8. Arcia 1. Archer 2. Cobb 3. Anderson 4. Davies 5. Chacin/Nelson I am assuming acquiring Archer would cost Santana, Woodruff and something else. But man this team looks unreal.
  17. My first two thoughts... 1. Archer is on the move 2. Walker's market is becoming narrower Santana's market now including Tampa given they just moved Dickerson and Souza?
  18. I want Arrieta signed as well. I think a lot of this is our impatience with the process because I have come on here multiple times to post this exact sentiment before deleting it. Typing it out helps!
  19. That's a cool interaction. Thanks for sharing!
  20. As mentioned earlier in the thread, a three team deal with Arizona and Tampa Bay just makes so much sense at this point in time. I won't presume to know what the exact deal would have to be and what prospects would have to go back to Tampa Bay but I would imagine something like this: Milwaukee gets: Archer Arizona gets: Santana Tampa Bay gets: Arizona prospects & Milwaukee prospects This would perhaps limit the haul the Brewers would have to send to Tampa Bay rather than the Santana-Burnes-Phillips-Peralta package that was floated.
  21. https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-talking-with-free-agent-jake-arrieta/c-266763682 Sounds like giving the 5th year is what will get any deal with Arrieta done. I for one am comfortable with a 5 year $110 million contract/$22 AAV which tops Darvish. In regard to arbitration eligible players mentioned...Nelson, Knebel, Villar, Davies, Shaw, Santana, Pina and Perez. I am comfortable letting Villar and Perez walk and replace them with Hiura/Dubon, I fully expect Santana to be dealt and Pina may prove to be a one year wonder. The challenges will be if Nelson, Knebel, Davies and Shaw. I would be approaching Davies and Shaw now about contract extensions to set some cost certainty. Nelson will be hard to gauge until we see him post surgery. Knebel...man elite closers in small markets are hard to keep when they get expensive. Lots to juggle but I think an Arrieta contract is very doable.
  22. Well Wade Miley is rocking #20 so I would say Lucroy is no longer in play
  23. I put it on par with the brewers sign Miley:) Except it's a $2.5 million Major League deal. As I recall, Miley is a Minor League deal.
  24. https://www.fanragsports.com/mlb/inside-baseball-where-will-remaining-mlb-free-agents-go/ Heyman predicts Arrieta to Brewers. Has Brewers in on Cobb, Lynn and Lucroy.
