  1. I am very happy with this combination if this is the radio team going forward after Uecker. I could very easily see a two man booth when Uecker is replaced rather than the Uecker 1-2, Levering 3-4, Uecker 5-6, Levering 7, Uecker 8-9 setup that is currently in place. And yes Grindle sounds a TON like Vasgersian.
  2. I think they are already concerned about how to get Perez enough playing time now that Braun is healthy and Villar is showing some minor signs of coming out of his funk. Brinson is not quite necessary yet.
  3. Or, alternatively, it is the perfect time to trade them. If TOR pitching is what you want, do you think a GM for another team would give that up for a Phillips or Cordell? No. Would they give it up for Santana hitting .850? Maybe. Broxton at .850? Yes. Very fair questions to ask... I just don't want us to fall in love with our prospects at the expense of current players on the roster that are young-ish, under team control and producing .850-.900 OPS.
  4. If Santana and Broxton are able to consistently hit at this level (say until mid-August), I think there is the real possibility that any of the following could be packaged and dealt to address the TOR pitchers we are discussing: 1. Corey Ray 2. Brett Phillips 3. Ryan Cordell SHOCKER: 4. Lewis Brinson While I don't typically advocate dealing prospects such as Brinson and Ryan Braun will eventually need to be replaced, if Santana and Broxton are at .850-.900 OPS while hitting Major League pitching AND will have done so for a year (end of 2016 through most of 2017), I will be hard pressed to trade them.
  5. Anyone have any interest in this guy who quite obviously needs a change of scenery? While he might never be the same pitcher he once was given the thoracic outlet surgery he had, he's young enough that he may be able to turn it around the further he gets from surgery. Is this someone the Brewers should be targeting if it did not cost a significant amount?
  6. I had pegged Kevin King as the Packers pick last week and when I read McGinn's piece on him this morning in the Journal, I became more and more sure this is going to be the pick (if he is there).
  7. The most amazing thing I have seen in this entire streak...people pitching around Thames to get to Braun. That is something I never thought I would see as long as Braun was still Braun.
  8. My mistake...Accidentally combined the Eaton and Sale deals. Giolito alone still seemed high to me. Good catch Eye Black!
  9. I never really hated the Cubs to be honest. Maybe it's because I never lived in Wisconsin, other than spending Summer's there as a kid, but this type of commentary about Thames really rubs me the wrong way and upsets me thoroughly. Making accusations of colleagues is completely out of line and a lot of the pot calling the kettle black as has been mentioned with Arrieta in Baltimore or Rizzo in San Diego. These guys are insufferable and I hope they get what is coming there way between the lines of the diamond.
  10. I don't think anyone is panicking with Broxton. I think the thought has been give Broxton 40-50 games (25-33% of the season) and make the evaluation then. If he is hitting .220 and playing outstanding defense and showing signs of progress, stick with him. If he is hitting .180 at the end of May, then you may want to consider bringing Brinson up and letting him get some experience at the MLB level. As others have mentioned, if 2019 is the target for competing for a playoff spot, it's not realistic to expect the Brinsons of the world to come up and immediately be ready to contribute to a playoff caliber team. 2017 and 2018 will be critical in allowing Brinson, Phillips, Broxton, Santana, Arcia, etc...to learn. Broxton and Santana are getting their chances now. Brinson and Phillips will be waiting should they not succeed.
  11. What does this even mean? Adam Eaton is 28 and the White Sox got MLB.com's #1 and #9 overall prospect in MLB for him. If Thames is hitting .280 with 25 HR at the deadline, I wouldn't expect anything less of a package as he would certainly be more valuable than Adam Eaton. Statements like that without explanation come across as snarky.
  12. The simple answer is the final stage of a player's development is done at the major league level. You don't declare "OK now we are competing" and expect guys with no major league experience to be finished products. This is a development year. Guys are competing to win but developing guys like Arcia and Bronson now are keys to success in 2018 and 2019. Agreed...but only after the Super 2 deadline has passed. Broxton has a month and a half of the 2017 season (40-50 games) to prove he is an everyday player. If not, it's Brinson time.
  13. If he is hitting say .280/.380 25 HR and the Brewers are on the very edge of contention, the trade return would have to be absolutely massive (thinking Eaton for Moncada/Giolito) for me to consider dealing Thames at his age/cost.
  14. You can call the Brewers Team Store and get it shipped if they do them. Thanks for the idea T Plush. I did and they said they no longer sell retro Shirseys In the Brewers store at Miller Park. Rather they only make the current Brewers script shirseys. Can any of you confirm this? I can't believe they would stop making these but maybe they have since I haven't been to a game at Miller Park since May 2015.
  15. Anybody know of an online site where I can purchase a Thames retro shirsey? MLBshop.com and Fanatics.com have the M with barley logo shirsey on it and I haven't been able to track down another site. Being in California doesn't make it real easy for me to just jump over to Miller Park or someplace in Milwaukee. Any help would be great. Thanks!
  16. Basically correct. I think steroids are worse than other things guys are taking, but I don't know enough about them to say for sure. As I mentioned, I already think people are doing it anyways(throughout all sports), so it just isn't a big deal to me. I mean, look at other sports, guys get busted and you barely hear a peep about it. I mean, Von Miller got caught and the guy is still doing nationwide commercials and stuff. No one cares, but if it happens in baseball then suddenly it's a massive ordeal, and if someone doesn't care about it they are sugar coating it. I think Braun is probably still taking something, and no, I don't have any data to back that up. Just my opinion. That's a pretty good point about Von Miller. Miller even conspired with the collector to try to cheat the test and got caught, and no one even cares and his NFL image is barely scratched. Yet in MLB, 4 years later opposing fans still act like Braun is a convicted felon every time he comes to bat. I think this subject deserves its own thread. The reason why football fans commonly accepts PED users and baseball fans excommunicate most users of PEDs. I believe the reasons are layered with baseball stats being sacred, the prominence of fantasy football and the expectation of football players being abnormally large but the double standard from the NFL to MLB is very apparent.
  17. I am happy to hear this. One of the owners was the brewmaster of a brewery in my hometown in California and he couldn't have been a nicer guy. Enjoyed talking with my family and I about all things Wisconsin. Can't wait to get back there to try some Third Space.
  18. Because most people don't know much about any other prospects. He's easy to target and write in a trade proposal and call it good. I don't think this is fair. Facts are the Texas Rangers supposedly had an interest in starting pitching (Wily Peralta in particular), the Brewers have unknowns at 1B and that 32 year old pitcher Junior Guerra has been mentioned constantly in trade rumors, I think it makes sense that Gallo for Peralta or Guerra would be mentioned as a possible return. If it had been the Blue Jays, Orioles or Mariners who were looking at starting pitching, I don't think anyone would be mentioning Gallo. It is because it's the Rangers specifically that Gallo is being mentioned.
  19. If 23 year old Joey Gallo is on the table for 32 year old Junior Guerra, I make the move. While I believe in Guerra being a solid pitcher, a 3.5-4.0 ERA type, I don't think you pass up on a possible 40 HR bat in Gallo especially given the dearth of 1B options the Brewers currently have on the MLB roster and in the Minors.
  20. While I think you have valid reasons for not wanting to wear another team's hat, the argument you present here is not something anyone in this thread has stated. Of course a Packer fan wearing Seahawk gear at Lambeau would cause anyone to question their loyalty and rooting interest. The way I interpret the argument being presented by most that are in favor of wearing another team's hat is centered around having a true secondary rooting interest that is independent of the Brewers. For example, I haven't been to a Brewer game in Milwaukee in 2 years but have gone to probably 10 Padres since that time. Me wearing a Padre hat to my local team doesn't mean I won't root against them if it serves the Brewers interest. If my loyalty is to the Brewers, but enjoy rooting for the Padres if it doesn't affect the Brewers interest why is that bad?
  21. Brian Anderson is still our TV announcer in 2017 and Daron Sutton is not. That alone is awesome!
  22. Kind of like 10am Packer games for us on the west coast. Starting any earlier than 6pm on the west coast makes it impossible for most of us to see the beginning of the game. Never going to make everyone happy I guess.
  23. Couldn't agree more with this. The reality is the Brewers are likely going to fully open their window sometime in 2019 and Guerra will be 34 years old at that point. Granted Guerra will be a young 34 given the limited # of innings on his arm, but 34 nonetheless. If they can acquire something of value that can be ready in 2019, I am more than willing to throw Davies, Nelson, Peralta, Garza and Anderson in the rotation to begin 2017. I trust Stearns will make the move if his asking price is met.
  24. So...still not letting that one go after 51 years? You know that they moved here from Boston, and were only here for 13 years. My grandmother, who used to listen to the Braves on the radio and was furious when they left, would climb out of the grave and strangle me. Not wearing their hat is an homage to her.
  25. This is a very good point...in my mind there is a definite distinction between wearing another team's hat and wearing a rivals hat. To me, on March 21, 2017, I will never own a hat of: 1. Another NL Central team (rivals) 2. Mets (see Gomez Trade and Sandy Alderson) 3. Braves (moving from Milwaukee) 4. Diamondbacks (2011-2012 Kirk Gibson comments and current presence of Tony LaRussa) 5. Yankees and Red Sox (they don't need any more money) That leaves 20 teams other than the Brewers that I would have no issue with wearing.
