  1. In today's chats Piliere described Jungmann as nearer to a front of the rotation guy than back of the rotation guy, and both he and Law indicated that Jungmann could start in AA, though I doubt the Brewers would do that. Piliere also seems convinced the Mets will take Jungmann if he's there at 13, so if the Brewers want him, they might have to take him at 12. Archie Bradley is easily the most exciting new name connected to the Brewers. I didn't think the Brewers would seriously pursue a guy with that price tag and I hope to be proven wrong.
  2. Some statistical analysis of Jungmann, Mahtook, Michaels and others from one of the guys at College Splits http://insider.espn.go.co...er/news/story?id=6615121 (ESPN Insider only). Pretty depressing take on Jungmann and Mahtook if they're two of our top targets as gets so frequently mentioned. Suggests Mahtook might have some serious platoon issues and expresses concern about Jungmann's strikeout rate. Of the two, I'd say Mahtook worries me more.
  3. Can you imagine coming away with Bradley and Lindor? Boy would that make me happy.
  4. Good to hear. Was wondering whey they weren't considering Bradley, or why Guerierri would be in the mix at 12 but not 15.
  5. What the Brewers need is for the guys they take, whoever they are, to work out the way they're supposed to. Jungmann and Cron aren't my first choices either, but both have high enough ceilings that if they actually reach those ceilings they'll be good picks. Cron's ceiling is a first-level middle of the order hitter. Jungmann could be a #2 starter (scouting reports on his ceiling vary). If the Brewers come away from one draft with a future hitter for the 4/5 spot and a future 2/3 starter that's a terrific draft. It's only a wasted draft if the guys they take don't make significant major league contributions, regardless of ceiling on draft day.
  6. Two new mocks up: KLaw's (ESPN insider only) http://insider.espn.go.co...ith&page=LawMockDraft2.0 Has Jungmann at 12 and Cron at 15. Says Brewers would probably take Mahtook over Cron, but projects Marlins to take Mahtook at 14. Called Guerrieri an outside possibility. Sickels' http://www.minorleaguebal...eball-mock-draft-mark-ii He has Guerrieri at 12 and Mahtook at 15. Has Brewers passing on Lindor twice.
  7. Just an update for the Josh Bell fans: he apparently sent a letter to MLB scouting services saying he doesn't want to sign and wants to go to school. Klaw suggested it's a common negotiating tool, but the BA writers seemed to think it's pretty serious. Callis said Bell wouldn't go first round, but someone might roll the dice later in the draft and see if a boat load of money will change his mind.
  8. I think you're being a bit too dogmatic on the high school vs. college issue. Gray and Meyer have among the best fastball-breaking ball combinations in the draft. Both have the ceiling of a #1 or 2 starter. Guerrieri's upside isn't higher than either. Both have issues with their command and inconsistent third pitches that may prevent them from reaching their ceilings, but Guerrieri really isn't any different on that front. The argument for Guerrieri is that as a younger guy with less coaching to this point there's perhaps more reason to hope he can make major improvement in those areas. Also, some may prefer his size/delivery to Gray's or Meyer's. The argument for the two college guys is that right now their top two pitches are more developed/consistent than Guerrieri's and there's a risk that he won't even develop those adequately. I'd be fine with any of the three, though my preference is probably: Gray, Guerrieri, Meyer. The Brewers can still land a high upside high school pitcher to bring up with Pierce and Perez later in the draft if they don't go that route in round 1. Now if they go for college players with 6 of their next 7 picks after round 1 like last year, I can understand getting worked up.
  9. Yeah, hard not to be excited that scenario. BA has Mahtook and Spangenberg going 13 and 14, both of whom I like less than Lindor or Gray. Guerrieri and Meyer were the two picks after Gray, in case anybody prefers one of those arms. My only concern with Gray is that there's been a lot of talk lately that he's going to end up a closer. But I'd still be thrilled to get him at 15.
  10. I like Baez a ton. I've been hoping for a long time that he'd be an option at 15. I'd be wiling to take him there even if we somehow got Lindor at 12 because, as you said, he'll end up at 3b. Not sure he'll still be there though. KLaw just recently said the Indians were looking at him at 8 and the Mets were also considering him for the 13th pick. What's everyone's opinion on Jed Bradley? A month ago it didn't sound like he'd be available, but all of the experts have recently been moving him down to the Brewers' range.
  11. KLaw had Lindor ranked 12th in his most recent top 100 and wrote that Lindor was slipping and could last until the teens. He then projected the Diamondbacks to take Lindor at 7 in his mock a week later, but implied he was their fallback option for that pick. If Lindor is indeed the backup plan but not the preferred choice for a number of top 10 teams that would suggest its conceivable he falls to the Brewers. I expect reports on teams' preferences will change repeatedly over the next 2 weeks so who knows? As for Jungmann, I've no objection to taking him with the unprotected pick at 15, though it would be nice if he was paired with a higher upside guy (like Guerieri) at 12. I don't mind going the college route in round 1, even if the prospect only has a ceiling of a mid-rotation starter or starting caliber position player, both of which have considerable value. It's in rounds 2-5 (depending on the draft) where you start seeing college guys who only project as back-end starters, relievers, 4th OFs and utitility IFs that I think it makes more sense to gamble on high school guys who have more room to make a significant leap in physical ability/skill development. This being an especially deep draft in college arms, that may not be a concern until round 3.
  12. That's better. Yo appears to have settled in. Now we need to stop chasing breaking stuff.
  13. I like Barnes a lot. I was quite worried a few months ago that Meyer fit the Brewers' type and that he would be yet another Brewer draftee to disappoint with his lack of control. His numbers and scouting reports have been better lately, so maybe there's hope on that front. In his favor there's been a lot of preference expressed for high-upside high school players, but Meyer has as much upside as any high school player they could take at 15.
  14. I don't doubt the Brewers are interested in Greene, but in a draft this loaded I have a hard time thinking there won't be better options available. Hopefully they see better players on the board and take the chance he falls to them in the second round. Additionally, if given a choice between raw, high-upside players, I'd much rather gamble on the player with a chance to play a demanding defensive position. I just can't support taking a guy like Greene, who will be relegated to LF or 1B, over Baez, for example, who if everything goes right could play a plus 3B to go with a plus bat.
  15. A potential choice between Jungman and Springer with the 12th pick would be very interesting. I'd be pretty happy with either.
  16. And that inning was even better. Have to think 8 innings is a real possibility now, which would be super.
  17. Rattlers with 5 hits in 2 games. That lineup could benefit from the Brewers taking some college position players early in the draft.
  18. I applaud the addition of a common sense, Braddockian eligibility rule. Curious to see where Yadiel Rivera fits.
  19. Jack Moore had a recent post up on the season to date and some of the defensive numbers are surprisingly solid at this point. Not sure I'd bank on that to continue. http://disciplesofuecker.com/fifteen-game-summary-41-417/
  20. Colby, who would be your preferred targets for CF or SS? Assuming Lindor is gone by the time the Brewers pick, is Bradley Jr. the only mid-first round option at either position or is there someone else you'd consider? Do you think he'd be safe to take with the unprotected pick at 15 despite Boras advising? That would allow the Brewers to use the 12th pick on a tougher sign such as one of the top high school arms. At shortstop do you like one of Gaines/Lopes/Michael/Story if available in round 2 or 3?
  21. He is off to a nice start, though it would be nice to see him draw a walk at some point.
  22. Awful appearance for Nelson. Didn't make it out of first. Defense didn't help him, and two of the hits were infield singles, but he had serious control issues. Ick.
