  1. He' signed through 2014. $4.8 mil next year, $6.475 mil in 2014. Great contract, but not too many years of control.
  2. No idea about the accuracy of his sources, but this could be big: http://brewernation.mlblogs.com/2012/07/26/heres-what-i-know-so-far/
  3. I like that package a lot. Assuming Texas refuses to budge on Olt, I think (hope) we will be choosing between a Rangers offer headlined by Perez, an Angels offer headlined by Segura and a Braves offer headlined by Teheran. At that point, the extra pieces become important and Texas has a lot of talent to choose from.
  4. Knobler's latest has some good info. Sounds like Melvin held out hope much longer than I would've. Says chances of dealing Krod have diminished, but other pieces such as Kottaras could go as soon as today. Greinke may take a day or two. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19656179/after-disastrous-trip,-brewers-are-ready-to-sell
  5. It's too bad the White Sox don't have a farm system if they're as eager as has been reported. Simon Castro, Saladino and Carlos Sanchez would all be nice additions to the Brewers' system but they aren't comparable to the guys we've been discussing from other teams.
  6. Sounds good to me. Unlike Delgado, it doesn't look like Teheran's ready for next season's rotation. But he has higher ceiling, which makes him preferable in my eyes.
  7. Delgado is a pretty good return. And the thought of pairing him with Pastornicky fits the report from Monday that Melvin was looking for a ML-ready arm and a SS or 1B. If that's the best that's offered, I'm satisfied. First, I'd like to see what our other options are. Whats' better, Delgado/Pastornicky or Richards/Segura from the Angels? Also, any ideas about non-Olt packages from the Rangers? Perhaps Martin Perez and Luis Sardinas?
  8. Too bad tonight's game wasn't at home, he really deserves a curtain call.
  9. Assuming he finishes the 8th at around 100 pitches, I think that should be it.
  10. It's an interesting thought. I'm skeptical about the specifics - the Brewers' system could sure use a guy like Nicolino, but I have a hard time seeing Melvin bite on a package built around an A-ball pitcher - but it's entirely believable that Kenny Williams would do something dramatic to get into the Greinke sweepstakes. I think the Jays' AAA shortstop, Hechavarria, could fit in a hypothetical 3-team deal though not as the headliner.
  11. I don't know if anyone else is familiar with the Brewer Nation blog, it's the first time I've ever been there. But today's post says Melvin is asking for a MLB-ready pitcher and either a SS or 1B prospect for Greinke. There's also some info on other Brewer trading chips. I think we could use a 3B prospect more than 1B, but ultimately quality matters more than position. http://brewernation.mlblogs.com/2012/07/23/mondays-rumor-roundup/
  12. Delgado's a pretty good return for Dempster. It's a bit reassuring after the various rumors the past week that teams wouldn't pay up for rental players under the new bargaining agreement.
  13. I hope so. I agree with what everyone else is saying, DM requiring major league pitching instead of taking the best available package is frustratingly short-sighted, though hardly surprising.
  14. I just read BA's pre-season scouting report on Schoop and it sounds pretty good to me. Among other things, the writer noted that some club officials believe Schoop is better defensively than Machado. He's struggling this year, but he's a 20 year-old in AA. It sounds like I'm in the minority here, but I think a package that includes Schoop and one of their scuffling, former top pitching prospects (Matusz, Tillman, Arrieta) is worth a long look.
  15. Since we're discussing young Orioles pitchers whose stars have faded a bit, I have yet to see anybody bring up Chris Tillman. I thought this article about him was intriguing: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/chris-tillman-finally-arrives/
  16. Ugh Yep. This fits Melvin's MO. JosephC's comment above is pretty on point. I could absolutely see Melvin making deadline moves with an eye towards next year's rotation. If by big league pitching we're talking about a promising youngster like Randall Delgado, that's probably a good return. If we're talking about pitchers with lower ceilings and/or less years of cost control ... sigh.
  17. If Marcum gets healthy, I could see us dealing him for Pastornicky (with maybe some other low profile prospect thrown in).
  18. Marcum has to get healthy and make a couple of starts to prove he's healthy in a hurry if we're going to get anything worthwhile for him.
  19. Just a warning, most scouting reports I've read say that Segura is likely to move to 2nd base. In case you were hoping he'd plug the SS hole. I love Castellanos and Olt as targets though.
  20. Didn't see this posted anywhere. From CBSSports via MLB Trade Rumors: I was worried they'd be too stubborn about selling, so I consider it a good sign that they're at least preparing for the possibility.
  21. 5th round pick Damien Magnifico sounds like a fun one to follow. According to the scouting reports his fastball has repeatedly touched triple digits. The downside is he has an injury history and doesn't have any pitches to go with the heater. Only a sophomore, so I'm not sure if any of the money potentially saved on the early picks will need to be redirected here.
  22. Oh, I agree. The Brewers haven't spent many early picks on athletic, up-the-middle types and I wish they did more of it.
  23. In a Feb. 14 blog post, Law described Taylor as a great athlete whose swing needs a lot of work.
  24. Thanks to Patrick for the scouting reports. The report on Haniger was especially helpful. The nice thing about acquiring a couple college bats is that they shouldn't be too far behind our collection of pitching in High-A and AA.
