  1. Headliner regardless I am betting. You're probably right. Including a pitcher probably just adds to and/or improves the secondary pieces.
  2. My guess is that's the headliner piece if it's just Lucroy.
  3. Today's my anniversary. Was quite relieved when the deal was supposedly done last night. Really need Brewers to wrap this up before dinner.
  4. It's possible McKenzie is in the package just not being referred to as a headliner. He's lower than Mejia on most prospect lists.
  5. DArnaud and Nimmo are a pretty disappointing set of primary pieces, but I'm not a big Nimmo fan. Hope there's more.
  6. I tried to indicate that I didn't think it could be taken to bank, just thought it presented interesting thought experiment on what quantity over quality package might look like.
  7. Hardly a reputable source or anything, but something to chew over: Mets Nation@Mets74734525 Brewers made a counter offer. The offer included the Mets giving up d'Arnaud, Nimmo, Cecchini, Herrera and Szapucki
  8. What does everyone think of Chad Pinder, number 54 on BA's list? If people think he can be a solid mlb regular it would be nice to plug an advanced college bat into that gaping 3b hole. For higher-ceiling options, I like the aforementioned high school lefthanders as well as Dustin Peterson and Jordan Paroubeck. As far as predicting what the Brewers will do, any combination of these names would strike me as a depressingly Brewer-like draft: #54: Michael Lorenzen or Trevor Williams #72: Carlos Salazar or Cavan Biggio #90: Buck Farmer or Jan Hernandez
  9. At the very least, I hope they stay in the top 8. Pirates get that comp pick after the 8th selection for failing to sign Appel.
  10. Segura may not be quite the elite guy I wanted as a headliner, but he fills a gaping organizational hole and those are two good arms that came with. Overall I'm pretty pleased.
  11. Fantastic! My quick research on Pena has made me a big fan
  12. Ariel Pena was on this week's BA hot sheet. He could be one
  13. My order of preference: Cowart, Segura, Richards then Cron.
  14. Well, assuming the Angels rumor is correct, what do we think we're getting? Segura + Richards? More? One of them + Cron?
  15. I agree that both packages are overly optimistic, but I'll play anyway. I vote Angels. I think Grimm/Richards is close to a wash. Segura is much closer to the majors than Odor, but Odor might have more upside. Neither is a lock to stay at SS. From what I've read, Cowart is having a breakout season. Olt is closer to the bigs, but both look like studs. I guess Segura's proximity to the majors is what swayed me, but it is close.
  16. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/19670353/white-sox-trying-hard-for-greinke-they-can-do-a-deal----if-theyll-give-up-big-leaguer I hate you Jon Heyman.
  17. Good. I realize a lot of this "Team X is in/out" stuff is spin, but I like this particular spin and am choosing to believe it portends great things.
  18. Both. I could certainly be wrong about the guy, but his current ERA strikes me as a fluke. He has a K/9 of 5.17, and an xFIP of 4.04. He also wasn't highly thought of as a prospect coming into the year, getting little if any attention despite being in the worst farm system in baseball where you'd think he would standout. That sets off huge red flags for me and given his peripherals in the majors, I'm just not buying him. Granted, you could say similar things about Fiers though his current numbers and peripherals are superior to Quintana's. And as much as I like Fiers, I don't think I'd want to trade Greinke for another team's Fiers.
  19. Tweeted by Danny Knobler of CBS: Hey Danny, that is a horrible thing to say. I insist you take it back. I do not want Jose Quintana or any of Kenny's other assortment of small-sample statistical flukes. Please go back to talking about the Rangers.
  20. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19669539/angels-love-greinke,-but-shields-may-be-more-realistic More elaboration on Angels indicating Greinke might be out of their range. I hope it means that they just can't match the awesome package we're getting from Texas. Worst case, I guess it could mean that they're not willing to offer more than Richards and Bourjos and Melvin understandably told them to drop dead.
  21. Couldn't agree more. The Brewers would be foolish not to at least ask the Rangers to throw in one of their seemingly bottomless stockpile of high upside A-ball middle infielders.
  22. I hope the Greinke deal gets done today. Twitter and MLB Trade Rumors have been major hindrances to my productivity these past three days.
  23. Agreed. I want to clarify that my earlier post wasn't meant to be negative. A deal like this is probably the best way to make use of our years of control over Gallardo and Braun's prime. It's a bit like going all in on Prince's last year rather than constantly trying to set the team up for that perfect alignment of talent at some indefinite point in the future. I don't want to derail the thread into an evaluation of Melvin's tenure, but I think a deal along these lines would make sense for the Brewers. It's Texas that I think says no.
  24. Exactly. This fits Melvin's "don't rebuild, reload" approach to player acquisition. Which is hard for a small market team to pull off, and probably impossible long-term, but it sure keeps things exciting. If this happened there'd be a new 2-year window to compete. Hopefully some of our young arms will contribute within that window but I'd still expect Melvin to attempt to shore up the rotation in FA this off-season. I even wouldn't put it past him to deal prospects again to fill holes.
  25. If the Andrus rumor turns out to be bogus, I apologize now for stirring up the board. Having taken a moment to think about it, I find it hard to believe Texas would gamble on Prufar seamlessly stepping in and providing above-average ss production in the middle of a playoff run.
