  1. I'd love to get Barnes or Gray with the 9th or 11th pick. I'm curious how you think Barnes compares to Matt Harvey. Any idea how you see the 15th pick playing out? I'm obviously not looking for specific names this early, just wonder how you think the Brewers would approach an unprotected pick. Probably has to be an overdraft of some kind. I figure the two possibilities are a lower-ceiling college guy (hopefully not a reliever) or a slightly overdrafted high schooler with reasonable bonus demands along the lines of the Biddle/Jackson rumors this past year. I'd prefer the latter approach.
  2. I don't understand why it seems everyone (Melvin included if reports are true) believes that Bumgarner is the only piece the Giants have to offer in a trade. Belt and Wheeler are both exciting prospects. I'd be very intrigued by a deal featuring either of them. The Giants may not be willing to part with either, but unlike Bumgarner, they strike me as reasonable targets to ask about.
  3. Anderson would be good, but I don't care much for Bowden. Most of the scouting reports I've read portray him as more of a middle reliever than a potential #3. It's possible that given a chance to pitch regularly outside of the AL East he could pull an Ian Kennedy, but from what I understand he has the least upside of any (starting) pitcher mentioned so far. As for the Beachy/Delgado package, I'd much rather have Delgado and Beachy than just Minor. I've seen Delgado ranked ahead of Minor on some lists. That's the nice thing about the Braves and the Rays as trade partners, they both have so much pitching that there isn't one player or prospect we need to have included. A variety of packages could work.
  4. Beckham is the one player the Sox can offer who I feel confident will become an impact player, so I'm very happy that Melvin is asking for him. I don't think Melvin is wrong to have some concerns about Hudson's ceiling. I remember reading scouting reports to that effect, and Hudson, while posting great strikeout numbers, also gave up a lot of home runs at AAA this year. That said, I agree that no team will give up a future #1 starter and would love for the Brewers to gain control of Hudson for the next 6 years. I think a package with Hudson and 2-3 solid prospects but no Beckham is a bit short of what Prince is worth, but is far superior to two 2012 draft picks. If it comes to that, Melvin will have a tough decision to make. I'm not certain we'll do any better in the off-season.
  5. MLBTraderumors suggests that Phillies might trade Werth to Rays soon. That would eliminate one of our suitors for Corey - arguably the one with the best pieces to spare.
  6. I really like Morel who is supposed to have a good glove. Hudson, Morel and Rodriguez might be a realistic, albeit somewhat disappointing, return for Prince.
