Ugh. Well, following the Cubs model, but they have some resources the Brewers don't. The thing with OF... if they draft (another) one at #9 he better be really, really special. Like, perennial all-star/HOF talent. Because what we've seen is that between Brinson, Phillips, Cordell, Santana, Broxton... they are fairly easy to obtain in a trade. They don't cost much to acquire, and you can move guys there too (Perez). They are perhaps the inefficiency in the market. So why spend valuable resources (#9 overall) on assets that don't cost much to acquire? I think that with Adell in particular, they see a potential all-star - albeit a very raw and young guy. Adell will need time to develop - no one would expect him to be in Milwaukee in a year or two. It's taking a guy with a very high ceiling (who are hard to come by) - but also with significant bust potential. Yeah. While serviceable OFers are relatively easy to come by, MVPs are not. Stockpiling high-ceiling young OF talent gives you a decent chance to end up with one or two All-Stars. If we had any sort of track record of developing starting pitching, I'd say the same about that.
