  1. It's just not as elementary as that. Essentially, trading in MLB (and all sports I suppose) is about trading contracts, not players. How long will the proven, top of the rotation starter be on your team and how much are you paying him? Some guys who are proven may actually have negative value because of their contract (in the last ten years, think Mike Hampton and Carl Pavano). There are dozens and dozens of things to consider when making a trade.
  2. I agree with the first two, but Gomez can be a contributor on a playoff team. As long as he never ever hits 2nd.Brentacout would actually be a nice bench bat as well, assuming that he can play multiple IF positions. He's just not a starting caliber player.
  3. Leadoff errors are no good, no good at all. Especially to lead off hitters.
  4. It will be interesting to see if Nieves will be catching Wolf even after the off day yesterday. I'm not sure even sure what I would prefer at this point, other than for Wolf and Lucroy to get on the same page. Wolf looked pretty good the last couple of outings with Nieves in there. My Prediction: Weeks Morgan Braun Fielder Hart McGehee Betancourt Nieves Wolf
  5. Hey Crew07, I'm just curious here, but what level of success will be Brewers need to achieve in this year and the next in order to redeem Melvin's decisions for you? Would two playoff appearances change your opinion at all or would you just say it was lucky and that the decisions were still stupid? A WS championship? If either of those occurred, would you even enjoy them or would you be too worried about the lack of prospects in the farm system to be able to enjoy success at the MLB level?
  6. How would people feel about swapping Estrada and Narveson's roles on the team? I realize that Braddock should be back soon, but it would be nice to have a lefty in the pen. Narveson probably isn't suited at this point to quickly warming up and entering the game from the bullpen, but I wouldn't mind seeing that at some point in the future. Our 4 man rotation looks really good for the next year and a half, but I think that 5th spot is up in the air. Narveson, Estrada, Rivas, Peralta, Rogers, Parra? could all find themselves there at some point. It's really not so much that Narveson has been horrible, as he's done as well as could be expected out of a fifth starter, it's just that we have no lefties out in the pen right now and Estrada has looked so good this year that it seems like a waste to use him in middle relief.
  7. This is really only the case if you are posting from the team plane right now.
  8. Loe's previous 9 appearances before tonight: 9 IP, 2 H, 1 BB 0 ER.
  9. Would it have been stupid to walk the bases loaded to face Renteria there? I feel like the odd of giving up 0 runs would be better in that scenario, although the odds of giving up 3-4 runs go way up of course as well.
  10. I like this matchup for Braun. Big hit for Nyjer there.
  11. Alright. More runs are coming here, then Loe and Axford to lock it down. Or at least squeak by thanks to some insurance runs.
  12. Gomez also holds Renteria at second there, although it's not really a big deal with 2 down. Stupid chance to take by Renteria.
  13. Little Mays Hayes Morgan there with the slide coming up just a bit short.
  14. And Hart with a nice tag-up. And Yuni takes a strike?? A-Wha??
  15. Miguel Cairo isn't exactly Vince Coleman but it's nice to see Lucroy throw somebody out.
  16. If Marcum gets through Phillips, Votto and Bruce unscathed the first time around I feel pretty good about things until the 7th inning or so. A couple more runs before then and I'll feel very good.
  17. For last night's game I thought it was a good use of the bench/bullpen. It all depends on if the bullpen needs rest or work, who the upcoming batters are, when the next off day is and who the Brewers have scheduled to pitch coming up. With Marcum going today and then an off day, it's really not necessary to try and save the bullpen, they should be plenty rested.
  18. ?? After sweeping the Pirates, Rockies, Nationals, and taking two of three from the Padres and Giants, just how many times do they have to win games like this before people stop thinking that they aren't winning games like this?
  19. As well as fans sitting in the lowest tier of the seating bowl in every stadium. Outfield walls should also be covered in 2-3 layers of Martha Stewart Collection pillows, the infield dirt should be replaced with shredded memory foam and game balls should now be bubble wrapped wads of cottage cheese. Enforce the rules as written and catchers as well as runners wont put themselves in these injury situations. The games been played this way for generations and now we want to talk about rule changes? I never understand it. Geena Davis took a hit at the plate. Can't we? Go Peaches! Humans also crapped outside and drank river water for generations, but nobody clamors for the good ol' days in those regards. I actually agree with you, and think requirements for facemasks are ridiculous, but I just hate the argument "This is the way it's always been done."
  20. I'll be very surprised if Kotsay isn't the DH for most of those games, or perhaps Prince while Kotsay plays first. I'd rather give Gamel a crack at it, but I just don't think it's likely.
  21. I will be very happy with a winning road trip, but expect to go 3-4. A 2-5 trip would be disappointing, but even that wouldn't really be the end of the world. I kind of view this trip as one that could possibly cement their status as one of the best teams in the National League if they continue to perform like they have over the last 19 games, but won't really say a whole lot if they don't do that well (barring an 0-7 trip).
  22. Florida plays in Arizona from Mon-Wed, so it makes sense that they would have an off day the next day. Of course the Brewers played back-to-back night games in San Diego and Milwaukee last week, but I do think that they try to avoid that sort of thing.
