  1. Wow. A lot of completely irrational emotional frustration on this site lately. An 85 win season is far from a disaster. The pitching staff was hurt all year and the bullpen stunk down the stretch...although moreso they just weren't quite good enough in some key moments (same as the offense). Wong is gone. Cutch is gone. Peterson is gone. Renfroe and Boxberger will be back. Trade a P and a prospect or 2 and try and get a big stick at any corner position. Try to upgrade C if possible, but it probably isn't. Turang will start soon if not at the start. I'd guess that one of Frelick or Mitchell will not be a Brewer at the end of next year, just too many overlapping skills w/o one of those skills being "power." Especially with Yelich's power outage, which makes those skills even more redundant (yikes...to think that Yelich is basically Mitchell/Frelick but with bad defense...but that's what he is). That's about it. Hope for a little luck and unexpected development and you win 98 games. With injuries and bad luck you win 85 again.
  2. I've heard a lot of names over the past 24 hours (and previous years) of coaches with Wisconsin ties...one guy nobody ever brings up is Darrell Bevell. He's currently the QB coach at Miami, after a dozen years of OC in the NFL and even interim HC jobs in the NFL. Seems like he would be available, but perhaps he just never really kept up ties with UW after he graduated.
  3. At first I was shocked, and thought it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction by Macintosh, but after hearing the press conference, I actually kind of buy the line that this was a mutual decision for the betterment of the program. PC clearly didn't like all of the changes in CFB over the last 4 years or so and clearly didn't like anything non-football about being the HC of a major DI program. He's seemed more tired and burned out that at any other time in his tenure. When the last 2 weeks of results on the field happened, Macintosh said he brought him in and had a long conversation with him. Had Chryst come out with some passion and some ideas to right the ship and get things going I honestly think he would have been given that leash to improve and even keep his job (basically like last year after the poor start). When nothing in that conversation gave Mac the impression that could happen he offered PC the "out" and PC took it, knowing that he wasn't the guy for the job anymore.
  4. Wow. I always thought Wisconsin fans were a little more realistic and loyal than Yankees fans, but I guess not. Like, multiple posters here honestly said they would rather see the Brewers lose because they don't "deserve" to win. Like, why are you a fan and why are you even ON a fan message board, let alone POSTING on a fan message board? It's really weird to me. All I figure is that if you that same way in real life, the only place you have left is a message board. Until you are banned. News for you-- Hopefully the Brewers have better teams than this one, teams that are even good enough to win a WS...but they will never have the best team in the league. It's gunna take some luck to win no matter what. Also, I apologize for taking the troll bait.
  5. As far as the poker one goes, my initial thought was that the girl is just an idiot and got lucky, but that's just my biases toward women who dress like that. She was trying to call his bluff, and she did....but there is a time and place to call a bluff and that WASNT it....(and I get he wasn't really bluffing, he was betting on his draws but still).
  6. I never understood why they went by weight in those fishing contests because of that reason. Sure, a naturally chunkie bass that's heavier than one a half inch longer is probably a "better" fish to catch, it's just too reliant on things that change too quick as opposed to length.
  7. It sure would be nice if Ashby pitches well today. In past years it would be a no-brainer to do whatever they needed to do to get in the playoffs and then worry about what to do with the staff when they get there. This year, I'm not sure if losing in the WC round is any better than missing the playoffs by a game or two (particularly with all 3 games being on the road) thus I might hold back Burnes if they have a 1 game lead on Wednesday morning. If they had a decent option to start OTHER than the big 3 then it would be easier to go with Burnes, but I don't want to go into a 3 game series starting Ashby/Houser/Peralta in game one. If AA throws a gem tonight perhaps I'll change my tune. Hopefully they have a 2 game lead on Wednesday...
  8. BA loves him some Tom Hallion ring ups...as do I
  9. Pretend it's 2007...Do you know how exciting this would be?

    Golf 2022

Tom Kim is fun. Team golf is WAY better than regular stroke play individual golf. Nobody pays attention to "regular" non-major individual tourneys. There are like 45 other weeks of the year where some more kind of team golf could happen and would make a lot of money relative to the "normal" PGA Tour. I know LIV has kind of tried to bring team golf to the professional realm and exploit this gap/inefficiency, but it just doesn't seem like its going to last, and the team aspect of that league is pretty weak.
  12. Wong and Box are really the only interesting cases. The others should be compared to the FA market. Box should be nearly a no-brainer to retain at $3M. He's been nails. Wong is probably gone...too many errors for a defense first 2B....just very little upside there, even if the downside is relatively high as well...it's just not high enough after what I've seen with his glove this year. Wrong side of 32 for Wong next year.

  14. These are nice, but don't fill in the arbitration number gaps, which are significant for the Brewers next year: i.e. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1N0fXQJkUL2e02XkezJt-64eJv7WB2CAngVKrM_RAHlA/edit#gid=1520401900 or maybe: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/milwaukee-brewers/payroll/2023/
  15. He will be in MKE on like 4/20/23. Somewheres about when he will have less than 1 year service time at the end of 2023.
  16. I'm going to say Lenny Dykstra as opposed to Biggio/Benintendi/Kwan.
  17. I would normally expect a 20+ point blow-out here, but something just feels off. OSU struggled against a mediocre Notre Dame team earlier this year. Other than OSUs WR corps vs our secondary, we actually match-up really well against them style wise. We've already had our debacle game with regards to special teams, penalties and turnovers costing us a loss. If those 3 areas go in UWs favor tomorrow night it is going to be a close game.
  18. Color me cynical about this whole thing. Terrible? Disgusting? Sordid? Of course. Out of the ordinary... I'm not so sure. I just assume with rich people and politics stuff like this happens constantly.
  19. It's nice to get guys that you've targeted early...especially if he is from the Twin Cities and his Dad is a UofM alum....and played basketball for the Gophers.... and his mom is an alum...and the Gophers recruited him hard....lol That said, I hope he is more Tyler Wahl or Nate Reuvers than Ben Carlson or Alex Illikainen. Good get, anyways.

    Violent Femmes

This is kind of what I was getting at in my post...I'm 40. I was a very casual music fan in the 90s, then got into more alternative/indie stuff in the early 2000s. It wasn't until recently that I realized how early that Femmes album came out. I just figured they were contemporaries with Cake and Primus or even Sublime, as that's who I associated them with on the radio in the 90s. But 1983 seems like crazy early for that sound. Plus, as Hopper said, the 3 songs after Gone Daddy Gone (Good Feeling, Ugly, and Gimme the Car) are exceptional.
  21. Everybody had kind of kept re-gurgitating the same "huh, who knows?" shrug yer shoulders and move on....until this interview with Fabiano Caruano a couple days ago. This link is actually from Hikaru's channel and his reaction to this interview, where Caruana basically blows up FIDE's anti-cheating measures and their guru--Ken Reagan as being totally ineffective.
  22. Any opinions here? A background: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlsen–Niemann_controversy
  23. 1983. Unbelievable. I don't consider it among the best albums ever, but it has to be among the most "timeless" albums ever. I swear that if you asked 100 naive 22 year old ears in what year the album was made, you'd get responses from 1965 to 2015....I'm not sure if 22 year olds know what an "album" is but play along...
  24. Huh. Milner. So if Hicks gets on we are walking Judge right?
  25. Get him through the bottom of the lineup.
