  1. I hope that they announce a postponement/suspension, then proceed to continue with the selection and bracketing process. Keep postponing until more info is known. If they can somehow get it in before July I'd think they'd do it.
  2. China had a grand total of 24 new cases yesterday. That's remarkable. They are probably much more on top of things than Iran or Italy, but it is evidence that the worst case scenarios CAN be avoided with relatively minimal impact--ASSUMING proper precautions are taken in the next few weeks. Those are still far better stats than seasonal flu or pneumonia statistics (again, assuming proper precautions are taken).
  3. Couple monster 3s there
  4. Any close Bucks followers concerned about JFG's point about Giannis not playing big minutes per game? It seems kinda dumb to me, since he is 25 and his comparison was to a 35 year old LeBron who has played big minutes. If anything, Giannis should be fresh AND able to ramp it up via adrenaline if need be at that age while LeBron is more likely to get worn down playing 40+ MPG...
  5. As a non-NBA fan and casual Bucks fan, I was impressed the refs called LeBron for the charge against Korver there. Pretty obvious, but still...
  6. I believe Jon Bryant and Duany were gone in 2001. Kelley, Vershaw, Kowske, Linton Boone and Penney returned.
  7. 2000 Wisconsin was top 20 in Sagarin and RPI and had played the toughest schedule in the nation; lucky sure, but they were a better team than their raw record and seed. And most of that team besides Penney and Duany were back the next year for Soderberg with another season of development. Penney was mostly definitely back...he wasn't really a part of the FF team as a frosh...but he was a part of the aforementioned '03 team since since I tried to help hoist him toward the Kohl Center roof...
  8. It's mostly window dressing at this point. They probably weren't going to truly contend for a B1G title this year either way (although their next 9 games are all pretty winnable), so then it's basically a difference in seeding, which I cared about 15 years ago, but when you make the tourney every year the less that matters and the more that matchups and being "hot" at the right time matter. Last year they were a 5 seed and an underdog in the first game. 3 years ago they got jobbed by the committee with an 8 seed and ended up beating #1 seed defending Champs Villanova anyway (who was coaching then?) in the 2nd round. Just get in and be playing well at the right time and you can make a run. Thank goodness the coaching staff and players don't care about "What ifs" and are more concerned about winning the next game. One more game.
  9. Bingo. That's 5 MORE points than a "relevant" margin according to NET...in a low scoring game.... This is one of my favorite Badger teams of all-time. No team will top the '03 team, but that's for personal reasons (I got my hand in Sports Illustrated after storming the court after beating Illinois for the conference championship...remember when magazines were a thing?). The '13 team is also a favorite, although that's because every other Wisconsin "fan" hates that team and they went 4-0 against the National runner-up Michigan and Offensive Efficiency #1 Indiana that year. The 3 Final 4 teams are pretty high on my list too. Also: Big Kudos to Rashard Griffith, Michael Finley and Howard Moore...3 college graduates who Scott Van Pelt recognized tonight for getting their degree.
  10. I don't think that NET ranking has ANY recency bias (in this case I'm counting that as a negative...I think more recent games SHOULD count for more than games in December). I'm pretty sure that KenPom has that baked into his numbers and I have no idea about BPI. Any human would look at the schedule and the make-up of the roster (+Potter-King) and bump them up a seed line or 3 based on how they are playing right now.
  11. I'm not trying to argue with you here, I totally get how "open 3 pointers with nobody closing out on you" is pretty much exactly the same as FT shooting "defense." The number of those opportunities a team gets is 100% linked to the philosophy of the defense though, so I'm just closer to the overall Deff side of the spectrum. Basically, 3FG% is a pretty "random" stat but 3FGA/FGA is linked very closely to a defensive style/philosophy.
  12. Or, stop the other team from making 3s and you win? That's where things can get complicated.
  13. This is at least the 15th year in the last 22 years UW basketball has outperformed how they "look" during December-January. Man I love UW basketball.
  14. It is true that usually Wisconsin has developed an All-Conference type player from merely okay recruits. We have to go all the way back to....LAST YEAR to find the last time that Happened. Potter and Reuvers aren't going to get those kinds of accolades this year, but each could easily reach that plateau next year. Gard's seat would just be getting warm if they flopped this year AND if the recruits coming in didn't show a lot of promise. Instead it's the exact opposite. They should/could have a better team next year. The year after that they'll be a super young and hopefully very talented team that I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up to be quite good, but really it's a transition/growth year. Evaluate Gard again in April of 2023. Until then he should get all the support from the fanbase. I'm guessing at that time they'll be finishing up 5 straight Tourney appearances with a couple Sweet Sixteen+ runs, and Gard will be nearly cemented in as a lifer who will contend for conference titles nearly every year.
  15. If they just hired the guy then it would be one thing to wonder what kind of culture he is instilling...but he's been coaching at UW since 2001, and I've heard nothing but rave reviews about the guy for that entire time. And he wasn't even implicated in the initial reports that came out...in fact nobody was implicated.. It's much safer and likelier to dismiss the head hunters as either trolls or young knee-jerk ignorami who watched 3 games in December and thought UW was boring and bad, then started shaking their pitchforks and tiki torches mainly for the fun of it.
  16. I just assume it's the same people calling for a new football coach cuz they cant beat OSU. Yeah, I highly question how many "people" are actually calling for Gard's head as opposed to how many Twitter profiles are calling for more attention/hottakes. Gard is among the all-time leaders in B1G winning % for guys with his experience. It's downright laughable that his job would be questioned. Trolls used to be an annoying subset of the internet population (and a significant portion of the actual population). Social media has brought the internet to the masses (including the opposition/enemy/non-fans/Russia). Long live the republic, let democracy be questioned...
  17. Kind of a watershed game for Bucky on Thursday. Win @Michigan when Michigan is playing like a top 10 team and a little more hope is fostered to make a nice run in the next month--plus it keeps the slight chance of a conference title alive. I think Maryland loses two more to get to the 6 losses that UW currently has.
  18. Depending upon Cain's health and production, Gamel could start once a week for Cain and once every 10-12 days or so for Garcia against righties. Then he'd pinch hit almost every game. That would get his PAs up close to 300. If Cain is more like 2018 Cain than 2019 Cain then maybe notso much.

  20. I don't mind when UW has a double digit lead and go into the "hold the ball" mode without even trying to run offense for the first 20 seconds of the shot clock, but a 5 point lead with 3:50 left is not that time. Getting the ball into Reuvers in the post was working well...even when PU doubled him it led to a wide, wide open look by Pritzl in the corner that rattled out. EDIT: After re-watching the last 5:00, there was really only 1 possession where they were too passive. Running the high screen to get a mis-match (which they did) is fine and reliable offense...and PU did a nice job of denying Reuvers from getting the ball. Trice got decent looks he just missed them. If any one of his 3 or 4 shots go down there is no complaint. Thankfully Pritzl and Davison and Ford bailed the team out with Offensive rebounds anyway.

  22. I like this kind of breakdown. Realistically I'd bump up Arcia by 100-200 PAs and drop Urias by 100-200 PAs (I think after the injury Urias starts in AAA and stays there until he hits his way up or Arcia hits his way down). I think Braun, Cain, and Hiura are on the heavy end of their usage as well, with Garcia, Gamel, Arcia and Holt taking up a few of those ABs. If Hiura improves his D that will change, of course.

  24. I like what Stearns has done as well, but there are a few worrying things. It seems like MKE has always had a good reputation as a player friendly organization with a strong, winning clubhouse atmosphere. With so much roster turnover in one year you never really know how the mix of personalities is going to mesh with each other behind the scenes. CC seems to be good at keeping everybody happy though, and there are a LOT of veterans on this club so I don't anticipate a lot of problems, it's just something that is another unknown that could go awry. As per usual with that sort of thing, I'd guess that if they win everything will be great. If they lose...who knows.
