  1. Oh man, things potentially really shaking up early in the draft. I wonder what kind of chain reaction will occur from this, and who will fall further than expected as a result. If a Top 10 talent falls to 15, I reckon our FO will be antsy to pounce.
  2. Cowser seems to have very similar body frame, measurables and offensive profile to Garrett Mitchell, albeit with more power. Appears that Mitchell is more of a natural centerfielder, though, while Cowser is decent enough out there, but may not stick long-term. Cowser also apparently has the ability to play 3B, which is interesting. He really does seem like the type of player the Brewers would draft if given the opportunity. Very athletic dude with an elite bat. If you’re right about Cowser, I wouldn’t mind seeing him take a reverse Braun route. The more talent we accumulate at corner IF, the better.
  3. If I had to go with my gut feeling, I’d say that we’re gonna end up with Cowser
  4. Another guy I kinda like is Benny Montgomery since I'm a sucker for loud tools. However, his 45 hit tool that I see on most scouting reports gives me pause. IIRC there's been waaay too many guys who were phenomenal athletes who just couldn't hit enough to get anywhere.
  5. I certainly wouldn’t mind Bednar. I think someone here also mentioned that his slider would make him a statcast darling.
  6. The ESPN mock literally stated that the reason for mocking Wicks is because of his similarity to Small. There is no concrete connection to the Brewers otherwise.
  7. Exactly what I was thinking. Even if he doesn't stick at catcher, if the bat is legit he'd be a much needed talent at the corner IF positions.
  8. Some new mocks today: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/31782968/2021-mlb-mock-draft-30-kiley-mcdaniel-predicts-first-two-rounds https://theathletic.com/2696906/2021/07/09/2021-mlb-mock-draft-3-0-kumar-rocker-to-the-rangers-jack-leiter-to-tigers-in-keith-laws-latest/
  9. I'm guessing the next move would be to bolster the bullpen. But which bullpen arms would they target?
  10. Perhaps the rationale is that other than for up the middle guys having more trade value, if they don’t stick at their positions a good bunch of them end up at corner IF positions anyway. Albeit so far we’re still very thin in the corner IF positions.
  11. I’m honestly not sure what our FO had a tendency towards. In the 4 drafts this current FO has been in charge of, two of them had guys fall further than expected (Mitchell and Turang), and two in which they made picks that no one had expected (Hiura and Small).
  12. because a couple mocks have him at 15?. Its fun to guess, but 90% certainty is a prediction, not a guess. For some reason the mocks have been pretty accurate when it comes to who the Brewers were looking at especially when they have had relatively high picks. I think Hiura was mocked to the Brewers quite a bit and Medeiros is another that was universally pegged as our pick even though he was rated much lower. If Wicks is the guy hopefully he pans out but I prefer a higher ceiling talent. https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=9999 https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2079647-2014-mlb-mock-draft-full-1st-round-predictions.amp.html https://throughthefencebaseball.com/2014-mlb-mock-draft-6-0-top-41-picks/42145/ https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-mock-draft-astros-skip-rodon-at-no-1-in-deeper-than-expected-draft/amp/ I don’t recall how many mocks linked us to Medeiros, if at all, but it was hardly universal.
  13. I'm still interested in seeing how Urias will continue to perform. Outside of the past 3 games or so he's done reasonably well at 3B. At this point I'm more concerned about bullpen depth.
  14. Joke was on us- we all thought it was sarcasm…. Can’t wait to see Tellez hitting 40 HRs for us this season
  15. And who is this big bat we could trade for with our relatively uninspiring farm system? Tom @Haudricourt · 18m The #Brewers have plenty of trade chips in minors. But when one contending team trades with another, both want big-league help. It's why such trades are hard to do but Stearns has done two of them this season. But enough to trade for some big-shot bat? I think we’re gonna need some more Top 50 prospects to make that happen.
  16. And who is this big bat we could trade for with our relatively uninspiring farm system?
  17. At least it’s been said that they’ve been pretty heavily scouting Ford. At this point I think Bednar and Ford are my top 2 guys I want at 15. Not really sold on Wicks either.
  18. Seeing Aguilar on that list makes me a little sad. I really thought he was going to be our long-term solution at 1B.
  19. I have to imagine that Stearns would be looking for bullpen arms next. I'd like to imagine that Stearns isn't dumb enough to think that this current bullpen will hold up and get through to the end of the season in one piece.
  20. Who would you suggest that wouldn't require us to blow up the farm or take on an albatross contract?
  21. FanGraphs mock I linked above has Bednar going 20th to the Yankees, so probably not a huge reach at #15. Mentions in his blurb that "while scouts see his slider as plus, the computerized pitch graders based on spin and shape like it even more than that" which sounds like the kind of thing the Brewers front office might be keen on. If that's true, I can see Bednar being a better fit than Wicks. Maybe the FO really is enamored with Wicks, but I wonder how much of this connection to Wicks is because people think, "They drafted Small so here's another guy with a similar profile"
  22. I guess this sort of addresses the need for some thump in the lineup as long as Tellez can hit well enough. Tellez did have a fairly decent season in 2019. Although this would thin our bullpen even more so that's another issue that's gonna be on people's minds.
  23. #1 nobody knows IF we are enamored with Wicks. These are just mock drafts with writers speculating based on what the are hearing, 90% of it is hot air. I do like Ford and would be perfectly happy with that pick. Also OK with taking a risk on Hoglund. Still wouldn't be surprised if a guy falls like last year for whatever reason. You just need a 2-3 teams draft underslot, and it could happen. Mock drafts have been pretty accurate when it comes to the Brewers. The team often seems to pick players that they were rumored to be interested in. Wicks doesn't seem to be a pitcher I would want them to pick but with most pundits linking him to the team he is a pretty likely pick. I don’t recall many mock drafts linking us to Hiura or Small. And no one expected Mitchell to fall as far as he did.
  24. I suppose what I meant was that in spite of all these mock drafts linking us to Wicks, I don’t really buy into the hype. In my personal opinion I don’t really see Wicks as the best option at 15 compared to some other guys that could be available at that spot. I’m also not really sure what to think of Hoglund. I know a few people alluded to how well the Dodgers did with Buehler, but is Hoglund a comparable talent to Buehler?
