  1. Kind of strange to think back on the Doug Melvin era. When he was at the helm, he’d get flak for being unable to form a consistently formidable rotation to go with a powerful lineup. We now have a formidable rotation, but now our lineup is inconsistent in the best of times.
  2. It’s that Doug Melvin connection ?
  3. While I would like for the Brewers to invest more draft capital on pitchers, by the time they draft a lot of the available pitchers are either high school kids who’ll never sign, relief pitchers, or back end of the rotation pitchers who I think not many people would be pleased about.
  4. Wow, I was expecting some guy who barely touches 93. Color me surprised here.
  5. After spending quite a few draft capitals on one end of the spectrum, I want to see them take their chances on the other end. If nothing else, it’s some variety at least.
  6. Depends on the kind of contact. I’d rather not see us drafting a guy who can technically make contact, but can’t exactly hit with authority (Brice Turang, for example).
  7. Brewers drafts in a nutshell: - Up the middle guys - Someone no one expected - Who needs power?
  8. Sure Ethan Small turned out fine so far, but I think I'd prefer guys who can regularly throw harder than 90 mph. 90-91 mph might've been at least average in the early 2000s, but I reckon it's a different ballgame nowadays.
  9. Anyone else concerned by the HRs Burnes has been giving up this season? Sure, for the most part he’s been able to limit the damage, but I reckon it’s gonna bite him in the ass eventually- like it has against Riley earlier.
  10. Freddy Peralta Who might be an exception to the rule.
  11. Also it’s one thing to walk guys while having high-octane stuff, but Small is a guy who’s not gonna blow guys away with pure stuff. If he can’t command his pitches, he’s gonna be in trouble once he’s in the majors.
  12. While I do agree that Renfroe is better than Grichuk, the added payroll flexibility seems marginal at best. Especially considering how much free agents are signing for this year, it would be like giving a broke college kid a dollar and telling them that they have a bit more financial flexibility now.
  13. Can’t wait to use that extra money to sign… *Checks notes* Jordy Mercer
  14. I mean, even with the money saved we’re more likely to focus on getting more light-hitting utility players or 4th outfielders, which we likely would’ve done anyway regardless of whether we dump JBJ or not. While it is nice to no longer see JBJ be the automatic out, I doubt the money saved will be that significant.
  15. I would’ve preferred dealing from a surplus rather than from a position that is lacking. I don’t mind dealing Hamilton because we’re very deep in the middle IF position. The same can’t be said about Binelas and 1B/3B.
  16. Renfroe’s got plenty of thump in his bat for sure, but losing Binelas stings a bit. Showed some promise, and I wad hoping that he’d turn out to be a good power hitting corner IFer for us.
  17. [sarcasm]20 year contract for Kris Bryant let’s GOOOOOOOO[/sarcasm]
  18. Too bad he can only barely buy himself a GM
  19. I doubt it. What we always seem to do is see how things shake out and try to find a bargain. Harder to do when everyone is in a frenzy and a possible lockout looking close by.
  20. [sarcasm]Don’t jinx us now[/sarcasm]
  21. I have a feeling that the Met's are gonna be next season's 2012 Marlins. Flashy signings (if they do manage to nab Scherzer), but ultimately won't get very far.
  22. The Mets FO is a dumpster fire right now. I almost feel secondhand embarrassment from it.
  23. Damn, I remember wanting us to draft him way back when. I suppose he’s worth taking a shot on. Would definitely fall under the possible diamond in the rough pickup that Stearns is always on the lookout for.
  24. I wouldn’t mind if he can be had for cheap, but I wouldn’t pay a premium for a guy who wouldn’t even be on the field half the time.
