    If Fischer turns out to be an Adam Dunn type of player (lots of K’s but also lots of HRs), I think I’d be happy enough about that.

    I just hope that all the quality prospects we’re developing softens the blow of losing Ragsdale and Frias. At least Strosnider and Payne are making a solid case for themselves so far.

    Strosnider off to a hot start. If he keeps it up he might be flying through the system soon enough.

    How interesting! International prospects are always a gamble, but if there’s a system that’s adept at polishing a diamond in the rough, it’s ours. Very interested in seeing how this kid pans out.

    I imagine it's gonna play out like this: Made at 3B, Pratt at SS, Burke at 1B, and Fischer at DH. Turang holds down the fort at 2B for the next couple years until Pena is ready for the major leagues. Then we trade Turang for what is hopefully a decent haul and put Pena at 2B. As for Luke Adams, I imagine he is traded at some point in the near future. He is a fine prospect but is quickly becoming overshadowed by both Fischer and Burke.

    Well, at least he has the bat to be a DH.

    Sproat reminds me of Manny Parra. The potential is there, but he is infuriating to watch.

    Regarding his performance in A-ball, he is young for that level and it’s not unheard of for players to struggle when they are first promoted. It is possible that he’ll look better by this time next year. That being said, most of the hype I’ve seen about him has been about his bat, and even then I’ve seen his scouting reports point out the lack of loft in his swing and that he may need some changes in his swing mechanics in order to fully tap into that raw power. Also, at least based on what I’ve seen on Baseball America, it seems that although his plus-plus arm may be helpful in RF, his speed and defense is generally seen as below average. While it is possible that his defense improves somewhat over time, he’s likely not getting any faster, especially as he bulks up with physical maturity. Perhaps that’s what factored into why Arnold thought he was expendable.

    Between Ragsdale and Frias, giving up Frias hurts me the most. It's not every day you see a prospect get that much hype and skyrocket as quickly as he did, and Fangraphs did hype him up quite a bit with talks of his "crazy" bat speed. That being said, whenever we trade away prospects/young players, more often than not we don't end up missing them in the long run. I just hope that our player evaluation is on point this time as well.

    I'd trade Sproat for a good calzone. The calzone place I frequented in college closed up shop and isn't even in the state anymore.

    As it stands right now, it seems like the Freddy trade was a wash. Freddy imploded in NY, Sproat is a dud for this season, and Williams hasn't really stood out and is kind of stuck in no-man's land with other promising prospects making a case for themselves.

    I’m surprised they didn’t try to fleece us. You’d think after the Cardinals trade every team would be looking at us like a prospect piñata.

    FWIW, I’ve read somewhere that some evaluators think Frias is too slow to stick at OF. Maybe the FO thought his place on the field was too questionable.

    I have a feeling that most teams knew that we were loaded with prospects and knew that we needed help in order to compete against the top teams in the league. So they were looking to make us overpay no matter what they offered, like how scammers would target obviously wealthy tourists.

    I’m not saying that’s how the FO actually operated, but a lot of people have been clamoring for a trade. We get a trade, but it’s one that’s hard to stomach since we overpaid for guys we likely aren’t going to keep long term, and we sent talent to a division rival.

    This feel like a Monkey’s Paw trade. People were banging the table for a trade. Any trade. They were bored and wanted some action just because they were bored and wanted their shiny new toys. Now we overpaid for rentals. How’s that for action?

    I’m surprised there is someone pining for Doug Melvin. His tenure wasn’t bad and the trades back then were more flashy than it is today, but it’s not as if the end result was markedly better. Plus the farm system was consistently below-average, our development/scouting of international prospects was relatively primitive compared to how it is today, and we actually had non-competitive seasons mixed in with the highs.

    I imagine the Dodgers are way more comfortable with trading for Skubal because they know they can extend him and they have the budget to keep him for as long as they wish. We don't have that luxury.
