  1. I could see the response to the brewers offer if it was a straight 2 year/$20M or $10M AAV. That's insulting after giving a top 5 catcher $20M for 1 year, while Kimbrel is probably top 4 in baseball for closers. Now if the Brewers were doing a similar deal to Grandal, then I think Kimbrel should have taken it as that's likely what he will eventually sign for. That tells me (if true) that the Brewers really weren't serious about signing Kimbrel. Kimbrel isn't going to sign for that little over multiple years. He can wait for the contender who loses multiple bullpen arms to come calling - it happens almost every year.
  2. It might help and at this point anything would be welcome to counteract the deluge of crap posts that are filling up Brewerfan. I don't even bother reading the "Major League" or "Transaction Rumors / Proposals" anymore because of the deluge of repetitive posts and counter-posts that swamps out any intelligent discussion. Maybe posters would feel less inclined to feed the troll-like behavior if they could just signal like/dislike for a post. I know there is an "ignore" feature, but I have never used it, because even people, whom I disagree with on many occasions, make valid points now and then.
  3. The Yankees are already up 3-0 to the Orioles and we are still tied 0-0... SIGN KIMBREL NOW!!!!!!!! GUARANTEE that World Series..... NOW STEARNS!!!!!! DO IT!!!!!!
  4. They have the Packers taking Hockenson even though Sweat and Ed Oliver are still on the board. I can see some dropping of Montez due to the heart issues, but I can't see how you could pass on Ed Oliver to take Hockenson. Is Hockenson clearly an elite talent? They also have Bosa now going to the Jets at #3 as the Niners now have the Ford addition and new-found love for QWilliams. Now do you do a deal with the Jets to possible take Bosa (losing the #12/#30 plus)?
  5. Hard to tell with this game - not many teams are going to look good/win when you shoot 33% from the field. One thing that stands out is a player with 16 assists. That really tells me that the coach had no answer to the offensive game-plan of the other team, so in game management is clearly atrocious... The rest, well he has a lot of time to think about it since there isn't anything else on his schedule...
  6. If they didn't think the price was right for Khalil Mack, why would they pay more for an untested Josh Allen?
  7. Well that tells you how much influence Bryce Harper has... Hey Bryce, call up Yelich and tell him how much you hope he becomes a Philly!
  8. I think that was when the Jets were shopping their pick and Gray was a likely option for the team. I haven't seen any mocks where Gray lasts until the 12th pick. All of the above occurred before the big FA signings so there may be a big change in thinking now. I believe without the Smith's, Gute was going to trade up to take an impact D, but now he has the luxury to see what happens before him at #12.
  9. This mock isn't TERRIBLE. Looks like that was from end of January before the bad performance of Polite at the combine. There was a recent version on USAtoday that I found last night which was updated for early FA moves. I was in B&N and read the Athlon (sp?) and Sporting News draft issues/mags which both were early picks. Not sure how reliable either publication is based on past drafts. Maybe 538 can do a weighted ranking based on sites which could have more value.
  10. I don't fall in love with specific players because it is almost impossible to plan what other teams will do, so I look more at the strategy of using the board and position to your advantage (such as trading down to taking the guy you wanted anyways and getting extra pick(s) - like Alexander in 2018). As the draft looks now, I don't see that a stud may drop to us at 12. I think the available talent at 12 would be equal to 15-17 so if things play out as expected (2 QB, top 11 and most of the studs not falling) I would like the packers to trade down a few slots and possibly take Hockenson there and BPA at 30/44. If there is an unexpected run on QB (as HiAndTight mentioned might happen) then it is much more likely we can pick up a stud D/DL/ILB/etc at 12 and the Packers should stay at 12 and pick up the best player that's fallen. Then target Fant at #30 and if he's gone, delay TE to later and pick BPA at 30/44. It's great that the FA signings have really opened up the draft for the Packers. Depending on how it develops on draft night I hope the Packers can get the players they want and add some additional picks by moving around. BTW, what are the best site(s) to go for mock drafts?
  11. Looks like Bryce Harper's big mouth set off some bells in the Angels front office and it will be interesting to see what MLB does. I would hate MLB to even get close to the joke that the NBA is where players group together to play on their designated "playoff" team... Clearly by the code of tampering, Harper's comments fit the definition. Wouldn't mind a nice penalty on Harper and a significant penalty on the Phillies... I'm no fan of the Angels, especially the clown car that is their front office, but the dude is signed for another year and any discussion about his options by teams/team personnel is just inappropriate...
  12. In case you haven't seen it, Criterion Channel has an official launch date of April 8th. If you sign up for an account before that date, you will lock in slightly lower monthly and yearly pricing moving forward. You will get a 30-day free trial included plus they are streaming 1 movie per week for "Charter" subscribers, however, only through a web browser, until April 8. Apps for Apple, FireTV, Roku and a few other devices are said to be ready on April 8th for mobile access. Robert, thanks for the reminder on Kanopy. It provided me with an excuse to finally fix my account connection to my library card and now I have access. I've been reviewing my media library and trying to catch up on streaming of some missing films to find there isn't an outlet these days for many of the classics. If I want to pay $3.99 for a rental, yes, but most paid streaming services have really cut back on older/"Classic" film offerings.
  13. They actually had a better interface for Hulu several years ago then decided that everyone uses the highlights underneath the label so lets put ours above... They also have gone to information being the least important part of the service and just playing anything really fast. You used to be able to get to the summary of a show just by selecting it/OK, now if you select if just starts playing whatever episode, then you stop it and try to figure out where your cursor is then try to get to seasons and to shows and by that time I'm swearing at the TV and Hulu for making their service crap. Absolutely worst interface on the planet. Add to that supporting older family members with an interface that's counter-intuitive and wonky and it just creates nightmares. I'm guessing the Hulu jumpers are under 35 yo and who don't mind sucking up 10 minutes of time just to get something you want playing... Sorta how netflix is becoming with rows and rows of Media they want you to watch and you could care less with a just OK search function to try to find something you want to watch...
  14. I saw a few in your post. Why do you use fWAR for Machado and wRC+ for Harper? Maybe because Harper disappears when the argument is WAR and Machado disappears when the argument is wRC+ or wOBA (in fact Machado disappears from the top 30). Why 4 years and not 5 or 6? 5 hurts them due to bad years? 4 makes a better argument? It's clear that there is a difference in what all 3 stats are attempting to measure (WAR, wRC+ and wOBA), but isn't it cherry-picking to present the stats that make a player look the best and ignoring the ones that make him look, for lack of a better word, pedestrian. wRC+ and wOBA make Machado look really really not exceptional... Sure, defense matters too, but at present there isn't a very good defensive metric that has been proven to be related to actual performance, which means strictly going by offensive metrics you have Machado outside the top 30 in baseball (with Harper in the Top 10). Does Machado's defense move a player outside the Top30 batters over the last 4 years to the point of he's an exceptional talent or even top 10? I can't say as I haven't really seen enough of his play to rate his defense, but there's plenty of subjectivity in any declaration that Machado is "absolute top tier among free agents" ... This Century? or the artificial time-frame of the last 19 years, hmmm.... since FA? nope...
  15. I made it through the first song and half of the second song on "Top Tracks" on Tidal of J. Cole. Farther than I thought as I was about to stop 1 minute into the first song. My issue with rap is that the "pretty good" artists are still abysmally bad compared to other music artists. I think Rap has the same issue as Metal in that so many bands proliferate that aren't very good because their target audience isn't very discerning, which in some ways is pretty common with "boutique" music. Death before Disco, Death before death before Rap... I could listen to Gnarls Barkley on repeat for 5-6 hours before even wanting to play 1 song from J. Cole. Personally, I don't get into music artists who think their lyrics are too good to be drowned out by "background" music. Music by definition is not some poser who thinks his/her words are gods gift to the world, but sound and rhythm and tempo and everything most rap songs lack. Sure I'm painting a broad brush when I stereotype that, but I haven't found good rap and I really would be interested in hearing some good rap. Anyone with recommendations?
  16. He’s 26 and a 5-7 WAR player every year at a prime position. There’s little reason to think his value will go down the next few years. He's a generational talent, but also comes off as lazy and entitled. Those are the types that get their huge money and go into coast-mode. Perhaps coast-mode for him is still All-Star-type numbers. It's just my personal feeling, which could very well be wrong. perhaps I just don't like the guy, and am letting that bias seep in. How many generational talents are there at one time? There are 2 infielders (Altuve, Donaldson) over the last 6 years that have better WAR than Manny... So 3 players at a time are generational talent?
  17. It should have happened 12 years ago when Interleague play began. The idiotic compromise where the DH plays when AL team is hosting was brought to you by the brainiac commissioner Bud Selig. At least he didn’t throw his hands up and say I don’t know... Once Interleague play began there should have been a resolution, but like most leaders today it’s easier to kick the can down the road than make a tough decision...
  18. I love this move. More subtraction by addition for the Cubs...
  19. Thats actually a pretty good idea. Im sure the ages and years would need to be worked out, but basically the earlier you bring someone up the more use you get out of them. It would take away holding down deserving players, like the bryant situation, and allow players to hit the market during their prime, or close to it. Maybe set it to six years of control or a certain age? Im not sure why the teams would want this, or more likely what it would take for them to accept it, but it feels like it would solve most of the issues. I suggested something pretty similar in some other thread that I couldn't find, but the idea is that a team can option a player once and still retain 6 years of control (3 Min/3 Arb). For each additional option they lose 1 year of Minimum Salary years such that: 1 Option = 3 Min/3 Arb 2 Options = 2 Min/3 Arb 3 Options = 1 Min/3 Arb Add in a substantial increase to MiLB players salaries and a tweak to the team control without being on the 40-man and you could reduce a teams ability to stash prospects in the minors until their most productive years. If they wish to keep optioning players they will lose control years.
  20. I wonder how much Budz makes Horst better while Kidd made him worse? Did Horst finally get it this last year or does he finally have a coach who knows what talent he needs and fits his system? Either way, if the Bucks make a deep run in the playoffs, I can't see Horst not being GM of the year.
  21. So what did you come here for? The 8-10 years aren't equivalent though: Minor Leagues (3-6 years) = Definitely Underpaid Minimum MLB (3 years) = Underpaid for Some Arbitration (3 years) = Paid Market The fairest would be to increase Minor League pay so that it actually is consistent with a Traineeship. I made $8000 the first year I was a trainee and $14,000 the last year. Current trainees in my field make ~$25,000. There's plenty of money if you take a fraction of the increase from the bonus money pool and INT FA pool money and a the remainder from the owners pockets. Spread it around so that players in the minors can lead a "normal" life. The other issue is the number of Minimum MLB wage years. Reduce to 2, but make the 2nd year significantly higher *say 3X year 1). The third year converts to arbitration (4 years of arbitration) where players are much closer to making a salary realistic to performance, however, I would remove the clause on reducing the pay by only a fixed percentage - if players way underperform they should get a cut that is proportional. I would even put a clause in where a team has until the end of the first arbitration year to tender a multiyear contract to the player (minimums for the contract could be based on performance of the player through year 2.5 compared to positional average - top third, middle third, bottom third) that covers the arby years or the player is a free agent after 3 arby years.
  22. Oh Really? So MillerCoors just "guessed" that a deal was done and it was lucrative and they were right on both counts... how odd... Oh Really? No correction was made after the press conference when it was reported that American Family approached the brewers until the PR backlash occurred, then there's a fluff piece from Haudricourt to *correct* the confustion... how odd... What an odd way to put it. Almost as if the words were parsed specifically after a lot of thought to fit with the actual facts, yet present a different emphasis... Maybe MillerCoors didn't want to discuss the situation 2+ years in advance of the end of their current naming contract... does that "not reciprocate the interest" if the Brewers wanted it done now? As Peavey stated, the timing is really odd, given, that there was a followup opportunity to correct any factual issues when the Brewers promoted Stearns and Schlessinger. Nothing was said during those interviews and since then the public response was clearly underwhelming... Then the need to *correct* the misunderstanding... Yep, clearly murky....
