  1. Yeah... Seven years of crap from Rogers... Years of abuse and disrespect heaped on Jennings... and that's the smoking gun of their relationship? And he had time to think about it, yet that is the clearest example of how Rogers disrespected Jennings?... Watch out Columbo... Watch out Perry Mason... You've met your match in Greg Jennings.... Poirot? A fool compared to the systematic case laid out by Greg Jennings...
  2. The Packers are a perfect sports team to question about this. I doubt they would reveal that they intimidate the press to keep quit, but they have a huge "ownership" group where I would expect that a small, but loud group of stockholders could ask for an accounting from Murphy/the Board how this type of situation could have permeated for so long and nobody in leadership was aware or dealt with it. It might put Murphy on the spot, but that's why he's paid the big bucks.
  3. I am at war with the cuss filer! Female dog is a cuss? It's pretty common in language and likely not to raise an eyebrow for anyone under 80... Crap is ok, but it's slightly different version isnt... WHY! (that's a statement not a question as I know you don't know the answer) So now I have a lot of crap and a bunch to "female dogs" about....
  4. I reread the article and it's clear there's a lot of noise there as each person has a different viewpoint for the train wreck. I think that ultimately it makes everyone across the organization look bad. It's hard to say it was McCarthy, or it was Rodgers, when it really was both and their own issues. What's clear is that there is way to much taking themselves seriously and not enough relationship building on that team. When Jennings "imitates a female dog" about Roger's comment to the SF DB, you have the perfect example. Jennings comment was "Because I'm in a contract year". 1) If you are serious then when Rogers responds "you guys should pick him up" to the niner, then Rogers is either serious and right or making a joke; 2) if Jennings was making a joke then Rogers was making a joke. Why be offended when he's trying to establish a relationship... Sounds like a perfect storm of Dicks with Finley, Jennings, Rogers, etc. taking themselves way to seriously. If you can't have a relationship that you can joke together then you seriously have a problem... My recollection of Jeff Janis is that everyone agreed he was a few cells short in the Brains department so I can understand Rogers getting on him if he was having issues with learning the plays/routes, etc. Nice/Not nice wasn't the issue. Another issue appears to be the lack of candor amongst the coaches and players. I've never had an issue going to a supervisor to discuss an issue with someone we both report to. Every player should feel he can talk to his immediate position coach if he has an issue with the coach or any other team member. It shouldn't be a constant process or a "female dog" session, but it should be productive. What would be different over the last 10 years if someone early on said to McCarthy: "Aaron has a chip on his shoulder about you selecting Alex Smith before him". Who knows, maybe it did happen and McCarthy was like 'duck that he needs to get over it'... As a boss, admitting you make mistakes in front of your staff has very little downside and makes them realize you will take responsibility... What a cluster.... situation. Too few adults and way too many diva's...
  5. I've seen that and it scares the hell out of me. I really always wonder with guys who have great combines, but don't have great production. To me the combine tests 1 skill at a time, while the games test your ability to combine all those skills. I really don't think the Packers pass up the other options since I think there will be a lot of elite players falling, but just the mention of Metcalf to the Packers makes me anxious...
  6. Maybe a family of 4 that are fans of Molitor? Or they don't like Molitor and think he was selfish taking the better deal and leaving ... It is hard to know the underlying meaning without rolling your window down at a stoplight and asking...
  7. Can we keep a thread about the reigning NL MVP and our player for 4 more years about that player and not about all the other pissing matches on brewerfan? who gives a crap about Larry Walker in a Christian Yelich thread.... Sheeessshhhh
  8. oh absolutely. I wonder how much of Murphy's weird decision making had to do with the mass exodus of GM "hopefuls" at the time Gute was selected vs. just leaving because they weren't chosen. The assumption is that they just left because they didn't get the job, but not always - depends on the organization and it appears Murphy has created a bad environment. The Triumvirate was just bad leadership...
  9. Yep, when Demovsky put it out last night that he has a sit-down, I was expecting McCarthy to be full of bitterness. Demovsky took the one thing MM said, though (It couldn't have been handled any worse) that sounded bitter, and ran with it. I think MM actually came off pretty well in the interview, and it isn't going to hurt his chances of getting a job next season. This certainly makes Murphy look like a tool, though. I tell ya, the more he does, the less I like him. I don't like Murphy and while you might be right, there is nothing in that article that really stands out. What alpha male is ever going to take a firing well? None. I don't want to rehash the whole McCarthy era, but there was plenty of reason to make a move SOONER, but they didn't. If they let him finish the season and he wins-out, it makes it almost impossible to fire him then. So I think the timing had everything to do with Murphy waited too long to pull the plug and he took the first opportunity to do it and that happened to be the Cardinal loss.
  10. I respectfully disagree. We should sign him to a minor league contract and send him to Biloxi for the season. That is exactly what he deserves. If we let some other team sign him there's a chance he could make it to the majors...
  11. That was the shortest half inning that started out with a hit that I've ever seen.
  12. I would too, but in my war he's standing in front of me to take the first bullet.
  13. lol well, it doesn't, soooo... rickey you're not supposed to look at >1000 PA, look at a handful in Sept 2018, and 1 AB tonight ... that's objective
  14. If a person isn't happy with $100M they won't be happy with $300M...
  15. They should just release Arcia. If Alcides Escobar could only get a minor league deal with the White Sox, there is absolutely no market for Arcia...
  16. I'm generally against giving aged SP extensions, if Chacin would do another friendly deal I would love to extend him 2 years...
  17. I think that applies to Nelson also since he hasn't pitched in 1.5 years and I can imagine they will be conservative with his innings. Makes you wonder if they will go to a 6 man rotation when Nelson comes back by rotating skipping a start between Nelson, Woodruff, Burnes, and Peralta (having them throw a few innings of relief the week they skip). Also, Davies for that matter might be in line to skip some starts as he only pitched 113 innings in 2018 and pushing him to >160 IP is a tad bit aggressive so he could also part of the start skipping.
  18. I really don't know what a generational talent looks like. I know that's been thrown around about Manny Machado and Bryce Harper. I'd lean toward saying I agree with the Machado tag, but I don't think Harper meets that tag. Going from players who have 6-7 years of production and saying Acuna has generational talent seems to me to be a big stretch. Yes he's young and put up a great season, but you don't have to look any farther back than 2010 on these same Braves to see a player who had a breakout first campaign and was touted as a "generational talent". I'm referring to Jason Heyward. How many people (other than his agent) would argue he's a generational talent now? To me it's longevity at an elevated level and there's a huge club of players that started out of the gate like they were the next Secretariat and ended up last across the finish line... If Acuna continues, yep, he will be a huge discount, if he doesn't or he has a serious injury that impacts his performance long-term then he's already setup for life and the after-life...
  19. Whenever some ballplayer comes up with lightning fast speed, but questionable OBP skills the often quoted comment is "you can't steal first base". I think for the Indians the corollary would be "you can't win a game if you don't score". Yeah they have a good rotation and a very spotty bullpen, but that offense has the capability of being absolutely abysmal. The Indians are my pick for surprise failure this year. While there's no competition from the Royals, Tigers or Sox, I think the Twins have a very good shot at taking the central.
  20. I used to have the tagline "it's better to remain silent and be thought an idiot than to speak and remove all doubt." Welcome to the Idiot Club, Jeff Passan...
  21. Yes, tOPS+ is a means of comparing splits to a players overall total. Compared to his career numbers, he pitches very well against the Brewers as only 1 other team (with more than 1 or 2 Games) has a lower tOPS+. OPS+ is probably a better overall measure looking at small samples, but I don't think it shows up on splits @ baseballrefernce.com. Another issue to keep in mind when just looking at the raw R/ER numbers from the box score is that it could be that several times CIN relievers let the inherited baserunners score and those count against DeSclafani's numbers. So while the OPS numbers won't take those into account, the boxscore will apportion them to DeSclafani (elevating his ERA/RS). The Raw OPS isn't adjusted for park/etc. His raw OPS is 0.662 when pitching against the Brewers. For comparison, Justin Verlander's raw OPS for his career is 0.657 so without taking any other factors into effect DeSclafani pitches like Justin Verlander when he pitches against the Brewers. Hence, my impression that he always seems to pitch well against the brewers...
  22. DeSclafani's tOPS+ against the Brewers is 76 (second best team for him). The counting stats probably reflect more bad luck as our raw OPS against him has been .662 Chacin's tOPS+ in GAP is 104 or roughly average.
