  1. 2 outs and Woodruff dicks around with Goodwin and 4 straight hits - one to the pitcher... Good to see the Brewers are once again playing like the short bus kids in a national televised game...
  2. Whew! When I read the title my first thought was there was a leprosy outbreak on top of Covid... Glad it's just another lazy article at MLB.com...
  3. At what point does JBJ have to be Superman on defense to justify a roster spot. Sure he's streaky, but I never thought his good offensive production days would only be on Brewer off days... Dump the Chump!
  4. The Brewers don’t play the White Sox down there. Just like with the Cubs, there are more flatlanders that come here than the other way around because the park here is nicer and more accessible than theirs. And because there are a lot more people in Chicago then Milwaukee……. Depends on your definition of "people"...
  5. Even though we haven't seen much of Tellez, his approach at the plate is 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than Hiura. When Cain comes back the decision should be a walk in the park for the Brewers on who to send down...
  6. If he shows up and they make some grumbling comments about putting everything behind them, then go out and win a Super Bowl, I would call that a Win-Win-Win and the best possible outcome. I've never been a big fan of Rodgers as a person and nothing he's done this past 6 months changes that, but I do want the Packers to have the best outcome. And if they actually won a Super Bowl, what could Rodgers possibly complain about? That he threw a fit, they offered him an extension, he declined and the team went out and won it all anyways? It would make Rodgers look like an even bigger dick to throw a fit next offseason. He is signed for several more years. The Packers can roll with him as long as they want, he can retire gracefully after winning the Super Bowl and we can move on or he can have another near miss year and they can move on. If he doesn't report his year and wants to hold out until they fire Gute then they can put him on the reserve list and move on with Love and trade Rodgers when the return is enough.
  7. Bats are cool. Perfect for baseball. How many Pirates ever made it to Pittsburgh or were they predicting DVD/media "Pirates"? Phillies? Metropolitans? Lakers? Boaters? Paddlers? Nuggets? Miners? Forty-Niners? The idea that the WFT may keep the WFT isn't any worse than a lot of the current nicknames. Fighting Irish? Sounds better if you weren't a possession of the Crowns for hundreds of years. Nets? Backboards? Rims? Your Washington Rims are seeking hard working people to fill multiple positions, check the Rims jobs listing at our website. Naw, Wizards is better.
  8. The Packers offense did marginally better in the games Davante missed last year. That's not a ringing endorsement to throw craploads of money at him. One upside to the poor drafting and roster construction of the late TT years was that there were fewer players the team needed to pay (or pay bigtime). They are likely to have more problems moving forward especially if they need to have the funds to throw at Rodgers to appease him. Can they realistically sign both to maximum contracts for their position? I don't see the math that gets them there without dumping a ton to get under the cap next year. A tag and trade would probably be the best option at this point.
  9. Well exit velocity is the new rage in baseball so the logo fits in perfectly. I don't know of anything that goes with BABIP... Cleveland Flaming Lake? Too 80's?
  10. So what your saying is that if you only look at LOSING games, the Brewers offense doesn't do well? You do realize that if you THINK about it, that's what you would expect because THEY LOST THOSE GAMES!!@!@! If you only look at the games the Brewers WON, you're going to find an offense that's near top of the league. Does that make the offense great? No, because you count the losses too... The Brewers have the 3rd best record in the NL and are 7ish games ahead of the 2nd place team. That means they're doing a lot more right than wrong. I bet if you looked at the games the Brewers don't score at all, they never win!!!! Can you make any other conclusions based on a few outlier games? NOPE...
  11. Excuses are for LOSERS!!!! The Nets took the most cynical approach to the NBA. Sign a bunch of old Free Agent Stars and don't worry about the regular season because you just need them to show up for the playoffs and boom you have a Championship. The fact they only played 7 games together during the regular season really meant they were hoping for some all-star performances on the offensive side to get to the Championship circle. No need to work together as a team, no need for defense, just outscore the other team. While other organizations have been successful winning a championship by focusing on a playoff run of stars, no team was so ambivalent to the idea of a "TEAM"... Glad they are the ones making the excuses and I hope the same in 2022...
  12. When this all broke on draft night, there were reports shortly after that the Packers had already offered to extend or renegotiate his contract. Even this rumor might be the tail end of those talks and not anything new from the last few months. Since it's all rumor who knows. I seem to recall Rodgers being very vocal about players should vote down the last NFL CBA and the rank and file basically ignored him. I don't recall his concern back then but could part of his concern be about the changes to holdouts and fines which 99% of the players wouldn't care about? Was it in his mind then to holdout at some point and the drafting of Love just gave him a "reasonsable" excuse. I wouldn't be surprised if all of this goes back to the release of his BFF Kumerow... I wonder how the Bucks championship will effect the perceptions of a subset of Packer fans who just want the Packers to give anything to Rodgers to get him back. Will some of them be more content to roll with Love and a few years of growing pains now versus before the Bucks won.
  13. Well they won without Donte and while he isn't a superstar, he gives them another dimension that is lacking with the other players. It would be nice to see him make it through a playoff run and see how the team plays.
  14. Interesting timing as ESPN decided to run with that story today (from all indications the offer was turned down earlier this summer). The previous reports leaking before the NFL draft were also questionable timing. Could the writers be as big of a group of drama queens as Lord Aaron? At least Stephen A. is outraged at the horrible treatment of Rodgers by the Packers brass. Couldn’t think of a bigger arse to be in Rodgers corner...
  15. 1st championship in 1971 the Bucks were Western Conerence champs, while they were Eastern Champs this year. First time thats happened. Great series and fantastic for the Milwaukee and Wisconsin sports fans to have another non-packers championship. Hopefully the wait for the next is much less and the other Milwaukee team that switched conferences/leagues steps up.
  16. I don't see Adames as an assumed annual all star caliber SS occasionally in the MVP discussion. That's what those three players are. Adames has had that type of stretch since coming to the Brewers in 50ish games, but his career numbers say he isn't going to be a SS that will set the arbitration marker as he progresses through it. Adames career numbers outside of Tropicana Park (at least from 2018-2020 seasons) gives him a 135 wRC+. His numbers since coming to the Brewers are a wRC+ of 162. It was hypothesized the he didn't see well in Tropicana and there was just an article on mlb.com to that effect to account for his performance with the Brewers looking more like his away numbers from Tampa. While the 162 may not be sustainable, a wRC+ of 135 puts him in the top 20 hitters in baseball (The only SS with a higher wRC+ this year has been Tatis at 167). If Willy keeps it up through the rest of the year, there's pretty good evidence that he WILL be expensive in arbitration. We can't have it both ways. If you want good players you will need to pay for them when they hit arbitration. If you want cheap players you'll likely get crappy players.
  17. Certainly not debating the time between pitches (although this data was for two specific games, so it is a bit of a small sample and could be attributed to the specific pitchers/hitters in the 2014 game), but one thing I have been wondering is how the number of foul balls in today's game compares to the number of foul balls from years ago. It seems like, and I have no data to prove this, there are a lot more foul balls now because of better pitching and less concern about strikeouts. Foul balls take up a lot of time (fielders chasing if they are close to or in the field of play, getting the ball back to the pitcher, getting balls to the ump if he is out, etc.), much more so than the return of an inaction pitch, and result in longer at-bats. Also, anecdotally, stadiums have reduced foul territory to get fans closer to the field (and thus increase those seat prices), which would suggest more foul balls out of play and not caught, resulting in longer at-bats. They are attempting to perform a controlled experiment. As they indicated it's hard to find a video of games from the 80's which has the timing information and ISN'T copyrighted to perform this type of analysis. Ideally if the information was available for most games then a complete analysis could be performed, but the facts are very revealing: The difference in commercials from 1984 to 2014 was: 1984 game had 33 minutes and 13 seconds of commercials 2014 game had 42 minutes and 36 seconds of commercials So 9 minutes and 23 seconds more of commercials. The other big increase was due to an increase in inaction pitches as I first quoted: 1984 — the elapsed time between a pitcher releasing one pitch and his release of the next pitch — was 32 minutes and 47 seconds 2014 was 57 minutes and 41 seconds. So 24 minutes and 54 seconds more for non-baseball activities like the batter stepping out, adjusting his gloves, taking practice swings, getting set in the box, adjusting his package, staring at the pitcher, the pitcher staring back, stepping off, rubbing the baseball, shaking off 5 pitches, starting again, shaking off a pitch, the batter stepping out and in, the pitcher staring for a sign, maybe a shakeoff and finally, yes finally the pitch. Combined the increase in commercials and boring stuff the players do accounts for 34 minutes and 19 seconds of the 35 minutes of increased time when controlling for pitches, hits, runs, basically everything else that can be approximately equal. Sure, they could have gotten lucky and accidently hit on 1 game where the time difference is skewed toward the boring player crap that is mind-numbingly dumb, but the fact they almost account for the entire time difference in 2 known areas where games are slowing down is pretty amazing. Are we going to change commercial time? Not as long as it pays the bills Are we going to see a pitch clock? Eventually if more fans stop tuning in or turning up because the pace of baseball makes paint drying seem like a high action entertainment option or if the demographics keep skewing to your grandparents game then baseball may act.
  18. FROM: https://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2021/4/5/22367871/mlb-pace-of-play-problem-getting-worse Back in 2017, SB Nation’s Grant Brisbee wrote this article comparing similar games (scores, hits, etc.) from 1984 and 2014 and concluded: Time between pitches is the primary villain. I tallied up all the pitches in both games that we’ll call inaction pitches — pitches that resulted in a ball, called strike, or swinging strike, but didn’t result in the end of an at-bat or the advancement of a runner. These are the pitches where the catcher caught the ball and threw it back to the pitcher, whose next step was to throw it back to the catcher. Foul balls didn’t count. The fourth ball of a plate appearance didn’t count. Stolen bases didn’t count. Wild pitches didn’t count. Just the pitches where contact wasn’t made, and the pitcher received a return throw from the catcher. There were 146 inaction pitches in the 1984 game. There were 144 of these pitches in the 2014 game. The total time for the inaction pitches in 1984 — the elapsed time between a pitcher releasing one pitch and his release of the next pitch — was 32 minutes and 47 seconds. The total time for inaction pitches in 2014 was 57 minutes and 41 seconds. (Incidentally, Grant’s article is well worth your time if you haven’t previously read it.) Rob Manfred’s changes that are supposed to improve pace of play — the automatic intentional walk, limits on mound visits, the three-batter minimum — literally cut seconds off the length of games. Here’s an article by Cliff Corcoran at The Athletic showing the math on what the three-batter minimum would have done in 2019: Over the course of the 2,429 major-league games played in 2019, those 691 pitching appearances work out to just one every 3 1/2 games. If, in every case, the new rule eliminated the mid-inning pitching change entirely, it would have made the average time of a major-league game in 2019 (drumroll, please) … 34 seconds shorter. After rounding, the rule would have reduced the average time of game from a record of 3:10 to a record of 3:09. Thanks, Manfred, for giving us 34 seconds back.
  19. How about top 5. I hated the Corey Ray pick. How's that turning out?
  20. He is the smartest man in the room. The problem is the room is full of some really stupid people...
