  1. Or it's possible that Black and/or Wilken will take over the 1b spot long term. I wouldn't have minded Hoskins for 2 years but it's very possible they have their 2025 1b already in the organization
  2. Really curious how the IF shakes out. Adames is likely the SS. You have Turang probably at 2b but I don't think that's a lock. Tyler Black makes alot of sense for 3b but not sure he makes the OD roster due to service time reasons. Then you have Owen Miller who is out of options, plus guys like Andruw Monasterio & Oliver Dunn and now Arroyo. On the surface Arroyo is a fine depth signing, but his addition only adds to the IF battle in spring
  3. And that 1st part doesn't bother you at all? I put the troll on ignore and yet when I come to this thread the entire discussion is based around him. It's literally every time we make a move. I'm not mad at the troll, he's getting exactly what he wants, I wish the mods here would try to keep the discussion on track a little more like on other forums I frequent. As for the 2nd year opt out, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, but it is a risk. It is worth noting though their 2025 payroll commitments are slim so even if this year goes poorly and Hoskins doesn't opt out they can likely fit his salary into their payroll pretty easily.
  4. I could absolutely see us signing someone you mentioned to a 1 year deal if it presents itself come the end of February or early March. I think Yelich is fine in the DH and allows us to play our young elite defenders in the OF but if they could grab one of those guys on a 1 year deal for cheap I think they'd probably jump on that.
  5. Except it's just once again turned another thread into a discussion about if the Brewers spend enough. We let a single poster come in and disrupt all actual discussion on here for some reason. For example I don't think we've touched at all on the risk of the opt out. The only time I can remember something similar is when we signed JBJ in March a couple years ago and we ended up having to deal away a couple decent prospects to get off that 2nd year. Now that doesn't mean Hoskins will be as bad as JBJ was, but the risk is definitely there. Or how does he fit defensively? The Brewers have always seemed to care a ton about defense but Hoskins isn't exactly known as a great defender. Now tbf neither was Rowdy so it's possible the Brewers don't care as much about 1b defense, maybe they think similarly to Brad Pitt in moneyball that anyone can play a decent 1b
  6. Putting the user on ignore certainly has helped, but the threads all still end up being derailed so I hope the mods can find some sort of a solution to that. I'd love to just come and talk about the signing, how Hoskins will fit in, the risks of the opt out. etc.
  7. I am certainly looking forward to this upcoming season, the Brewers as it currently stands should be NL Central favorites again. I am very intrigued by next offseason, how many QO do they give out(and how many comp picks do they get back)? Do they openly take a step back despite the bites at the apple approach they've taken or will they spend some money to try and get stop gaps until other young guys are ready. Next offseason will be fascinating but first I am definitely looking forward to Hoskins batting in the middle of our lineup this year
  8. This does make the Bauers acquisition even more confusing. I'm sure they have some underlying data they like and that's the reason they got him but how often is he even going to play? I'd imagine Yelich, Chourio, Frelick, Mitchell, & Wiemer are all ahead of him for ABs in the OF, he's certainly behind Hoskins at 1b. So is it just occasional starts as a DH and maybe once or twice a month at 1b?
  9. Sure in theory that could be the case but I'm not aware of any evidence that would say NFL teams are worse this year than in years past
  10. Yes there are. The Ravens & 49ers this year are both historically great per most advanced metrics. There are absolutely great teams in the NFL
  11. That's wild
  12. Ross being looked at as a Starter, atleast initially
  13. I'm absolutely all for a salary cap & salary floor similar to other sports leagues. There are absolutely cheap ownership groups, but to say that every small market owner is cheap and large market owners want to win while ignoring all other context is wildly flawed. Just say you don't want a salary cap at all and you're ok giving up competitive balance in order to keep the status quo.
  14. You can be against a salary cap, that's fine. But the numbers are pretty clear that small markets in MLB perform at a much lower success rate compared to their counterparts in other Pro sports. Small markets in MLB make the playoffs less often, win their divisions less often, and win championships less often then their counterparts in other sports. If you're willing to create an uneven playing field in order to avoid a salary cap then that's fine but say that. Pretending that small markets in MLB are on a level playing field though is incorrect.
  15. Ah yes, the idea that every owner in MLB that wants to win happens to reside in a big market. It's kind of weird how small market owners in the NBA or NFL seem to care about winning but those in MLB don't.
  16. Only 2 of those 16 franchises that won a World Series though were a small market(Kansas City, St. Louis) In the NBA Milwaukee, Denver, San Antonio, Cleveland have all won titles in that time period In the NFL Green Bay, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Baltimore, Denver & Pittsburgh have all won Superbowls. In the last 10 years only 1 small market MLB team has won(KC) In the same time period we've seen Milwaukee, Denver, San Antonio, & Cleveland have won in the NBA meanwhile Kansas City, Tampa Bay, and Denver have won a Superbowl There might be more "parity" in MLB but it's only among the large/medium markets and doesn't extend to the small market teams like other sports do.
  17. Uribe can also be optioned, although that seems unlikely
  18. Miley also has a limited No Trade Clause per Heyman
  19. The money for Miley
  20. Only 14 IP in the minors last year coming off of Tommy John.
  21. Another arm for the rotation most likely
  22. I still think they trade atleast 1 OF, my guess would be Tyrone. You could roll out DH Yelich LF Frelick CF Chourio RF Mitchell/Wiemer platoon with Perkins as Minor League depth & Yelich getting the occasional start in the OF. That's plenty of depth and ABs.
