  1. I think most of us would agree the legislation itself is likely dumb and a waste, but you're right, sports bring us joy and we're willing to pay for Milwaukee to have an MLB team. I personally like having major sports in the state, I don't want to become Louisville, Albuquerque, or Omaha(cities of similar size to Milwaukee that don't have professional teams).
  2. I get the principal idea of not wanting to give money to help build a sports stadium for very wealthy owners, but the reality of the situation is that's what you do or you lose your team. Milwaukee is not a LA or NY or CHI where sports leagues are desperate to be in those markets. We could be principled and turn into a Louisville, Albuquerque, or Omaha or we can enjoy things like an NBA championship, getting to root for players like Giannis, get excited for prospects like Jackson Chourio, etc. This isn't an ideal situation but the ideal situation doesn't exist.
  3. Say what you want but I'm happy the Brewers will seemingly be sticking around in Wisconsin for the foreseeable future
  4. We talk every year about how any team in the postseason can get hot at the right time and make a deep run. It seems that the 84 win Arizona Diamondbacks are that team this year
  5. Ryan on MKE Tailgate made what I thought was an excellent point today regarding the lack of an entertainment district in the proposal. It's almost certainly not the Brewers who are against it as they would stand to make boatloads of cash like the owners of the Bucks, Braves, Cardinals, etc. all do in similar situations. But that it would be a terrible look politically in what would essentially amount to the Brewers taking tons of money away from the bars that shuttle to the stadium and instead pocketing it for themselves.
  6. I think hiring smart people is much more important than the actual payroll number. Give me a well run team with the 20th ranked payroll over a poorly run team with the 10th ranked payroll
  7. Which is sort of the point. Of the guys you listed only Turang at this point projects to get significant ABs. Everyone else is off the roster or in Perkins case lower down the depth chart. So for the next few months the offense shouldn't nearly has many black holes as before
  8. The Brewers 1b this season before the Santana trade had been worth -1.7 WAR, Santana at that point had been worth 1.0 WAR. The same sentiment rings true for Canha at either DH or RF. Winker this year was worth -0.7 offensive WAR, Canha was worth 0.9 offensive WAR. So between Canha & Santana you're looking at about 4 extra wins this year which would sure be nice right now
  9. This is very similar to the Santana deal. Gave up a lower tier prospect to go from terrible to average at a spot which is fine. If we can go back to having a lineup full of averagish hitters 1-8 then we might be able to make some noise. It's nothing special but it'll help
  10. I think it'd be interesting to see here, Who is the worst player you guys would be willing to trade Chourio for 1 for 1. BTV has Kevin Gausman & Francisco Alvarez as the two closest players rated in terms of value to him
  11. Grabbing two separate 4 star RBs is incredible. Guessing both have a chance of playing immediately next season
  12. I believe most college hitters they start in Low A atleast initially
  13. Mannion has been terrible imo, and his rights belong to GSW anyway so not sure why he's even playing with us. Nunn is probably the best PG left on the market by a long shot but man I'd have a really hard time rooting for him considering his off court issues.
  14. They switched the type of position players they went after a few years ago and have mostly gotten positive results. Mitchell, Wiemer, Frelick, Turang, Black. We're starting to see the results and they are mostly positive
  15. The Brewers are very model heavy but it's mainly worked out for them the last few years. I haven't really studied anyone in depth but I trust them to make solid picks
  16. Fick & Co. have been on a recruiting tear this last week landing 3 separate 4 star guys. Very exciting
  17. I'm pretty surprised at the vitriol towards the USMNTs decision to bring back Berhalter. I'm no soccer expert so I'm sure there are tactical decisions and strategies that can be 2nd guessed, but looking at purely the results of his tenure it's hard to say he hasn't been successful. He took over in 2019 after the disaster of missing the World Cup and has had pretty good success. They won the Gold Cup in 2021, tied for their best ever performance in the World Cup Group stage and then lost to a really good Netherlands team. The US was ranked 25th when he took over and has risen to 13th passing both Germany & Mexico on the way. He has the best ever winning % for a coach is USMNT history. I know there is the whole blackmail incident with Reyna's parents, but that says more to me about them than it does him. I'm not sure what I'm missing here and why I'm seeing this hire being called terrible, a disaster, etc.
  18. Not sure it's entirely true considering the source, but Woelfel is reporting the Bucks offered the HC job to both Monty Williams & Kelvin Sampson but got turned down. He's also the only to report so far that Vin Baker & Josh Oppenheimer will be returning to the staff https://woelfelspressbox.com/2023/06/sources-at-least-two-coaches-rejected-bucks-head-coaching-job/
  19. A few things that stood out to me Offensively he discussed wanting to pass more often and create offense through those passes, what's interesting is Stotts has typically run a version of offense that isn't very pass happy, his offenses typically finished near the bottom of the league in assists so I'm curious to see how that plays out Defensively he mentioned high pressure, high turnovers. Which I like the idea but doesn't exactly seem to fit Brook's skillset(who he also specifically mentioned working with so it seems a good bet he'll be back). So I'm curious how he'll fit Brook into that style of defense Some other things that stood out -I loved how he mentioned the need to strike a balance in the Regular season and that the regular season is all about prepping for "April, May, & June" -He discussed creating transition offense which by itself is fine, but I do remember seeing studies done that showed that offenses that were predicated on transition opportunities and/or drawing alot of FTs tended to struggle more in the playoffs when the game becomes more dependent on the Halfcourt execution. I'm not sure he meant to go that in detail about it but it's something I'll be keeping my eye on throughout the season
  20. Nehm reported tonight that the Bucks are looking at Terry Stotts and/or James Borrego for spots on his bench. Also said Griffin has signed his contract and has been in Milwaukee all week. He will be making 4 mil a year reportedly. Not sure what the delay is though in making it official and holding the press conference
  21. Alot of people questioned Arnold's offseason and specifically how he built the bullpen. I think he's been fairly justified throughout the 1st 2 months. Now granted a few acquisitions didn't work(Guerra, Varland) but quite a few have been great so far including Wilson, Peguero, and his faith in Strzelecki. But I think Payamps has been the best of the bullpen moves by far. He's really become a fireman that can get us out of jams, the inherited runner stat is insanely good(and likely due to regress a bit). But overall I think a huge reason we are in 1st is because of our Bullpen and Arnold deserves a ton of praise for that
  22. That Yelich number is quite surprising and encouraging
  23. Contreras already lost the starting catcher job, yikes
