  1. I actually am a little different in that I think he has more of a TV play-by-play voice, not really radio. His delivery is definitely choppy though, but I just don't think he's quite adjusted to the job yet. Rock is still bad, but he was real awful when he first started.
  2. Who knows how he'll ultimately turn out seeing as he has at least 3 years to go in the minors but I agree I would have rather seen him drafted instead of Haniger.
  3. I thought the amnesty rule voided a contract for you ie you wouldn't have to pay the rest of Gooden's awful contract. I'm sure I'm probably wrong?
  4. Olt would be the overpayment on a deal for Greinke. I think that's why Melvin (if he trades Greinke) will try to maneuver these teams and get Texas to give up Holland and Olt. Holland is actually pretty good, though he's struggled this year and hasn't really "taken off" per se. He had a great postseason last year and honestly against NL opponents might figure it out. People need to realize that teams overpay at the deadline a lot. Look at what the Dodgers were about to give up for Lee. It doesn't necessarily mean that we will be a team that gets that overpayment for Greinke or Marcum but I'm merely stating the fact. If the Brewers can get any top 10 prospect or top 25 for that matter then they accomplished something. They didn't give up either for Greinke or Marcum (though Lawrie probably should've been top 25)
  5. Morosi of Fox said about a week ago Detroit would be in on Marcum if he gets healthy, so if you could get Castellanos (probably couldn't) that would be a great deal. Might make up for the Lawrie trade... I also personally think that Greinke for Holland and Olt isn't that much of a reach. It's guaranteed less than Philly wants for Hamels and the Rangers really need a proven SP. It's more of a question of is Derek Holland truly healthy. If you did both of those trades however, you'd have to figure out what you want to do with Olt and Castellanos, because one of them would have to move somewhere (if not both due to Ramirez).
  6. The only connection being made is Jonny Narron. And the Brewers offense stinks (not necessarily indicative of him, but just sayin') so he might not even be around a year into Hamilton's contract, if he doesn't bite the bullet this offseason. Hitting coaches for the most part are literally a dime a dozen, and are one of the most expendable coaching positions besides their counterpart pitching coaches. Jonny Narron would likely not last a whole 5-7 deal of Hamilton, and might not last the first year of it if they're struggling.
  7. Hopefully Ransom dons his golden sombrero tonight.
  8. He's fallen off the map with the lack of PT. I don't think he's really a starter anyways, so now his stock is sort of in limbo. He can take some pitches and draw a walk, but he K's and generally swings and misses a lot too. All of his power/most of his RBI came in the first two weeks of the season. I just think his value ship has sailed.
  9. I'm hoping some promotions are in order for Thorny and Jimmy Nelson so we can really see if they deserve those top spots
  10. I disagree that he's a better hitter. He's a far more patient hitter, but Braun has been a better hitter (AVG and power) throughout his career. Votto had one monster power year and he won the MVP because of it.
  11. You're being generous, it was a C- at best.
  12. I have to agree. Just because they didn't take the guy you like doesn't mean they made a bad pick. All of the first 4 guys have high upside, and that's really all you look for when you're picking 27, 28 and 38. Roache if healthy might have been in the top 15 and Coulter (though some are more down on him than others) was rated as the best high school Catcher. Haniger may have been more of an unknown to US, but to the scouts he profiles as a RF with power and a good eye at the plate. If he sniffs that projection then I'll be ecstatic, whether there was other players we thought were 'better' or not. The MLB draft is by far the most subjective of all the professional sports drafts because of what others have mentioned. This isn't a bunch of players that have been seen week in and week out by people on TV/in their local stadium. These are guys that get almost exclusively seen by SCOUTS. Who get paid to grade players out, unlike us who look at THEIR scouting reports and a crappy handheld camera video from behind the backstop of the guy. That's why you see Keith Law bashing the Brewers picks and others praising them. It's ridiculous, particularly for Law who will inevitably be WRONG on 75% of his top 50 rated guys. I'm not personally happy they didn't take Gallo or Smoral with one of their first 3 picks either, but I embrace the Brewers choices and honestly I don't give my hopes up on ANY of them. They could all be HOF'ers or they could all be busts. That's why grading drafts immediately after they occur is absurd.
  13. Some good HS arms might be available in the 2nd round still, so I'm not worried about that. Not taking Gallo seems foolish to me right now though. I said this earlier but you really can't predict the MLB draft or it's prospects but if I were to take Gallo's massive power and upside versus Haniger (who admittedly has some good things going for him as well) it just seems like a no-brainer. Far too early to make a real judgement though, and I think they might be saving money for the later rounds to not miss out on signing guys like Rodon this time around.
  14. Yeah I agree, it's always tough to project the MLB draft but that just seems like a signability pick which is ridiculous considering Roache was in that category as well. You pass on Gallo, and Smoral? Just seems like a mistake but we won't know for a few years I guess.
  15. Slightly off-topic but does anyone know what happened with D'Vo? There's no news about him moving on from baseball yet he hasn't played this year. Funny that we get that piece on DoU about him and then he doesn't even play baseball again.
  16. I just hope they go with at least 2 bats in those first 3 picks. I don't care too much who the guys are considering anything can happen with draft picks, but they really need to start getting bats back into this system. Gennett is their best positional prospect right now, and he has about 5 HR potential. It's very thin.
  17. Alright, I'm a relative noob when it comes to our minor league system. Can someone please enlighten me on Jimmy Nelson? I keep hearing very good things but I know almost nothing on him and there's not many (free) scouting reports available out there. Can those who are far more knowledgeable help me out? Thanks
  18. I think Coulter's a bit of a reach, most mocks have him available still at 38 in the sandwich round where the Brewers could still get him if they're that high on him. I'd prefer Trahan if you're going with a catcher out of HS. Also agree that if Addison Russell is available I'd think that would be a pretty good pick too. Also, if Joey Gallo is still on the board, I personally love the guy's power. I think it's a must considering that's Melvin's forte.
  19. Lucroy is definitely a better hitter than Green IMO, at least at this point. I just posted this on another topic, but people are absolutely infatuated with Taylor Green on this board. He just doesn't have an impact bat from everything I've seen. His MiLB numbers were definitely off the charts last year, but he hasn't shown much pop in his opportunities last year or this year and I'm just not sure looking at his swing that it'll ever be there in the majors. I hope for the sake of the sanity of the board I'm wrong.
  20. Green's getting chances, more chances than Gamel got a few years ago. Ishikawa will play tonight, maybe tomorrow as well due to last night, but Green will continue getting his chances. There's this deep love for Taylor Green by people on this board but I just don't see it. We'll see how it pans out but he just doesn't seem like an impact bat IMO, and he's shown very little power in the majors thus far.
  21. I saw one mock draft with us taking Walker Weickel who they give a MLB comparison to Chris Carpenter (obviously comparisons are best case scenario). Does anyone know anything about him?
  22. I don't think Gagnon can be traded this year? Maybe not until July...
  23. Although I do think Taylor Green has potential, I think most are severely over-estimating that potential. I just can't see him being a productive everyday player, and I'm pretty sure Brewers brass can't see it either which is why they keep "blocking" him. If he hits, his bat will get into the lineup even with D. Lee. Ishikawa will be the odd man out if Taylor Green plays well.
  24. That's because he's worth nothing. Anyone is better than Izturis though.
  25. I wouldn't even think Cain would be worth 125M and now that the Giants have thrown that money at him unnecessarily, Greinke is going to be overpriced as well. I personally don't think Greinke is worth 100+ M even if he is a great pitcher. There's far too much risk for any pitcher long term, and 100M deals rarely work out for the team.
