    Are you Zack Greinke's best friend, or close relative? Perhaps his agent? Regardless, if your comment was directed at me, I wasn't saying it was PR based. Nothing Greinke does is PR based, that's why in January at the On Deck he said he was rooting for the Steelers and not the Packers. I was just saying he's a smart guy and he's not going to rule out the Nationals or anybody for that matter because someone will pay him big bucks, if that's what he's looking for. We're still not so sure that's the case with him.

    First off, the Greinke quote is just him being PC. It was right after he vetoed a trade, and it was for the Washington Post. He's a smart guy and he just didn't want the Nationals to think he didn't like them as they are a potential suitor for FA because of their payroll. I just think Zack would say that to any team that asked him. He said basically the same thing to the KC reporters during the season this year. Not saying he wouldn't go to either of those teams, I'm just saying he more than likely won't, he just doesn't want to come off badly to them. As far as the topic goes, I'm getting sick of these dumb *** Miami reporters saying it's done. Even if he does sign with Miami, he won't sign at least until after Thanksgiving, most likely around the Winter Meetings. There's absolutely no incentive for any bigtime FA to sign before then anyways. And it's been reported (by people who are actually credible) that it's nowhere near a done deal.

    There's going to be at least one trade this offseason for the Crew, and my guess is it's for either Wolf or Hart. That takes 9-10 M out of the equation, assuming you get back prospects or a much cheaper player. I also think McGehee and Loe get non-tendered since they aren't worth their pay upgrades. That should give you enough flexibility for Reyes, but I still don't know if he's worth it. Especially if he's looking for 5/100M

    Getting a pitcher coming off 2 double digit win seasonsHave we really come down to arguing wins as being important? Wins are probably the least important stat for a pitcher these days.

    Yeah, Madson getting over 10M a year when he wasn't an effective closer until this past season, really doesn't make sense. I think Amaro is just spending just to spend now.

    He may very well get traded, but I pretty much disagree with all your points. I agree with PrinceEatMeat that he'll get a shot a 1B in ST.

    Not for 30M they won't, what if he flops? That's a lot of money for a flop, even if it's spread out to 5-6 years. I just don't think the Brewers are focused on that right now. Now if he was a shortstop...

    Hanley has lost some pull with the organization, and is apparently very much willing to move to 3B if they get Reyes. I still don't see how it makes sense for the Marlins OR Jose Reyes other than the hispanic connection (which seems like a stretch). I still think he won't go for over 5 years, though there will be an option year for a sixth. He's just too injury prone for a team to risk 6-7 guaranteed years. Prince however will definitely get at least 6 considering how young he is still, and the fact that he just doesn't miss any games. Overall I think the Brewers are the early front-runners for Reyes as they probably want to make a splash, however as we get to the winter meetings they might be out of the running if the price gets ridiculous. Either way, Melvin and Mark A. will be busy this offseason.

    Yeah, people need to stop thinking that Prince's 15.5M leaves 15.5M left to be spent this offseason. It doesn't work that way. However, with non-tender and a likely trade of at least one player, you do have a little more flexibility.

    Yeah, all of the numbers pretty much are ludicrous IMO. Reyes will probably sign for 4-5 years with options. Pena might get two years but it's not a smart investment. I wouldn't mind either at the right price though. Pena's BA sucks badly but he hits HRs and has a great glove at first. Only problem is he negates Gamel, which I don't think the Brewers want to do at this point.

    I just disagree with the Jays making the 'correct' move in moving him to 3B. They had a glaring hole at 3B and we didn't. They had Aaron Hill among others at 2B at the time which seemingly blocked Lawrie there. I think it just worked out well for them to be honest. Probably 75% luck and 25% good development/good evaluation.

    I think Lawrie playing well at 3b surprised everybody though. The Blue Jays took a gamble putting him at 3B and in the limited amount of games he played, it worked pretty well. Pretty sure everybody saw him as a no glove big bat guy, with the potential to improve with the glove. That's what the Brewers draft when it comes to bats, they draft big bats with no glove. All they care about is the impact bat, not a gold glover, so for people to keep saying they mismanaged because they put Lawrie at 2B is ridiculous to me. Where would you put him? He can't play short, he's not a 1B, he couldn't cut it at C, he didn't seem to have the intangibles to play 3B, and he couldn't play CF. So that leaves him with two spots, corner OF (which when he was drafted was blocked for a long time) and 2B (which was up in the air until this past offseason). Hindsight is just so 20/20 for all of you guys. You think because the Jays took the risk of putting him at 3rd and it worked, that the Brewers made a huge mistake not doing it. And whoever was complaining about Brantley, I find that a bit short-sighted. You probably didn't care at all when he was the throw in piece for CC, but now you care because Brantleys playing good? Anyone in the Brewers system in the past 10 years that has had a "position crisis" has been one of those all-bat no glove players as I mentioned. Weeks, Fielder, Braun, Gamel, Lawrie, etc. I don't believe that's the Brewers fault

    As everyone's saying, money is your biggest factor. If Mark A. is willing to dole it out though, there's no reason for them to not at least be the front-runners. They can still improve their team with trades (like if they trade for someone like Chase Headley) and small FA signings. I think we can all agree that the Brewers need AT LEAST one more impact bat this upcoming season. If they don't get it they probably won't make the playoffs again, even with the SP staff.

    After some recent events, I really think the Brewers are going to push for Reyes after Prince Fielder likely turns down whatever deal they offer him. It just seems like with the SP set for this year, they're going to go for one big fish. That big fish would obviously be an impact bat at this point, and Reyes makes the most sense. Obviously, the price has to be right but it just seems like a fit. Fits Roenicke's managing style, is an impact bat, is a great defender, and plays SHORTSTOP, which is probably the number one problem right now going into the offseason, the infield. I know I've seen some hints from Attanasio and Melvin that they'll be willing to look into a guy like Reyes this offseason, Braun made that comment earlier this month (yes I know that's nothing serious but still), and even sportswriters are picking the Brewers as the likely destination. If the numbers work, it seems like a great fit and I'd love it for the right price. Health is the biggest concern obviously, but I think it's a risk reward scenario.

    Well the whole thing the truth is saying is would they trade for Hart because he's already a proven slugger. It'll be harder to hit 25+ HR in the NL West but he has that type of power obviously. Still doubt they would do it considering they have other options on the FA market.

    I love Prince but I'd almost rather have him go. His defense at 1B is atrocious and it'll be nice to finally get someone who can actually play D over at 1b. His bat will obviously be sorely missed though. As far as this underground deal goes, even if your friend was close to Boras, why would Boras tell anyone? Why would this person's father be privy to the info anyways? It could be true, but it's highly doubtful. And as far as a CC type deal, I wouldn't mind that as much but the numbers have to go way down. You can't have almost your entire salary going to like 5-6 players, it's far from practical. The idea of having an option in the 3rd or 4th year (preferably a club option) is nice. If it's player I'm sure Prince would stick with another 60+ million, and that's scary.

    If Loe is worth 3MM then I say SEE YA LATER. A sinker baller situational reliever should not be getting more than Takashi Saito just got for being a dominant late inning reliever.

    This team can compete at the very least next year, but some changes do need to be made. Bullpen has to be somewhat reconfigured (please get rid of Loe) and the bench has to be completely re-done. Then there's your questions at 3B, 1B, and SS. That's quite a few questions. Maybe Green can take over 3B, get Reyes or a lower caliber SS and put Gamel or Hart at 1B. Who knows. I just hope this isn't the last chance we had for another 30 years. God just writing that was depressing.

    This board is a lot more understanding of RR (he is a rookie manager after all) then oh I don't know... BrewCrewBall. However, I can't understand why people continue to think that Narveson was overused (like he can't go 3 innings in 4-5 days) and that if he had started EVERYTHING would've gone differently. It's BS really. Narveson knew all along that he would be the first guy in the game if Marcum faltered at all, and there you go, he faltered in the first inning. Can't have much shorter of a leash for Marcum than 1 inning. Then Narveson gave up 5 anyways, so everyone's point should be moot. But then they just keep trying to find a way to say that Narveson struggled because of X and Y and fail to admit that NEITHER option was good. He was NOT going to use Yo for game 6, why bring Yo back on short rest and risk him being bad, then have no one for game 7? Or are you fine with Marcum in game 7, but not game 6? Why? Both are elimination games. I don't know, really what killed us this series is defense (yes Kotsay does play into that) and pitching, particularly getting down in the first inning. I don't think Roenicke mismanaging is the reason we lost, I think that's kind of a cop out so people feel better about losing.

    I truly think (and hope...and pray...) that Yuni was just a one year thing. There really was no better option this year, though Doug did get some capable backups. I mean, I don't think he would've had the Royals give us the buyout if he didn't plan on using it. I will give Betancourt credit for one thing, and one thing only. He came to play in the playoffs, and was one of there better hitters in the playoffs. Still wouldn't mind if he accidently fell off a cliff this off-season. Maybe that's a little harsh, but oh well.

    Greinke got screwed in game 5, but yeah he didn't look good in the other starts. He just had an odd season all around to be honest. You look at his peripherals and they jump off the page at you yet he got hit HARD all year long and paid dearly for it. I almost feel like he was tipping his pitches or something. He mentioned himself that he 'grunts' when he throws a fastball, and some of the announcers in either the LCS or LDS mentioned he slows his delivery down when he's throwing a curveball. I still like him and I don't know if he even would take an extension but if he would I'd do it. I think having a full spring training to work out kinks (instead of on the fly) will be a lot better. As far as Marcum, he really let everyone down this post-season. Himself, the team, RR, and obviously us the fans. He just looked awful, and as much as I thought he'd bounce back last night he fell flat on his face instead. I know he doesn't have great stuff but he just threw meatballs all post-season, and had literally no command of anything. The trade was still worth it, but I almost hope he gets traded this offseason if we can get a nice bat for him. I'll take my chances with Gallardo, Greinke, Wolf, Narveson, Peralta.

    I almost think to hold Greinke back would be to detriment his confidence on the road. You're basically saying 'you can't win on the road, so we'll have to wait another game to pitch you'. Marcum needs to bounce back anyways, no matter what game he pitches
