  1. That Angels tidbit is very interesting. But I still would prefer Texas' prospects because Profar, Olt, and Perez all could be difference makers. Plus they have lesser guys that could be good as well like Grimm who has been mentioned. Nothing against Segura and Richards though.
  2. Yeah really slappzilla, give it a rest until there's something even remotely concrete. The only thing posted by credible people right now is the fact that he most likely WON'T be traded ANYWHERE. Texas still wants Greinke and they are trying to play hard ball like I said earlier. They want to overrate their prospects and underrate Greinke in order to pay less for him.
  3. Texas is just playing hard ball with their prospects to lower prices.
  4. http://host.madison.com/sports/baseball/professional/brewers-melvin-says-busy-week-coming-up/article_dc38594e-d512-11e1-a1e9-001a4bcf887a.html Some interesting Melvin quotes. Haven't seen it posted on here yet.
  5. I think he actually meant to not imply offense. As in not offend. At least that's what I got out of the context.
  6. Wow...some people on here have some crazy ideas. I won't even do it the justice of elaborating, it speaks for itself.
  7. That's just a bad idea RockCo. Too many flaws. Why would Braun be okay with being traded somewhere else every year for 3 months. And what if he liked it more somewhere else? And I guarantee receiving teams would give up NEXT TO NOTHING for players in this scenario. It is NOT the same as a rental. Rental's have potential to be signed as a FA by the trading team. In your scenario the team gets no draft picks, can't keep the player, and only gets 2-3 months out of the player. There's no incentive in that. Also, what about injuries? What happens if the other team over pitches Yo Gallardo like game05 said? Or if Braun pulls up lame. Do you sue the other team? Does the other team pay for rehab? Too many holes in it.
  8. True, but barring a trade, he's probably their best option to bring back, and he'd probably be willing to come back to prove he was worth the first deal. I think Stephen Drew will be out of our price range due to the Scott Boras connection.
  9. K-Rod could be a throw in on a Greinke trade. For instance, the Angels need a SP and a closer/back of the bullpen guy.
  10. I agree, he's been awful lately. I was one of those who definitely loved his arm and I hope he can turn it around. The unfortunate thing is he's pitching in the most pitcher friendly league that he'll ever be in (assuming he stays with the Brewers) and he hasn't been good. I think his secondary pitches need A LOT of work.
  11. Well I guess we'll find out if it was a trade for Neftali Feliz after the game today, considering it's the day he comes off the DL and the Crew has a day game. I doubt that's what's happening but who knows.
  12. Well...the Cardinals blew 26 saves last season I believe, and most were around this time and prior.
  13. I don't know that it necessarily means a trade WILL happen, but I think this whole situation is trade related. Too suspicious otherwise. If he's actually hurt, they would've had RRR just come out and say he was hurt at his normally scheduled press conference like they did with Shaun Marcum. Instead they release it earlier in the day that he will not start on Wednesday. To "recharge his batteries"? Makes no sense. Then McCalvy asks Zack what the situation is and he says "Whatever Ron said". That's a very odd response for even Greinke. I agree that they could have had a request from a potential suitor to stop him from pitching while a deal is finalized, or they could just have a prospect pitching Tuesday (today) night/Wednesday that DM wants to see one more time. Who knows but something is definitely up.
  14. Recharging his batteries according to Ken Rosenthal. I don't know how to link tweets really but its:
  15. To comment on the 2008 playoff run, I definitely think we could have beaten the Phillies that series, and maybe more. Who knows? But I remember Sheeter was fighting through injury and then came back and pitched one night in August I believe and outdueled Jake Peavy for a 1-0 win. Believe it was a complete game too. The guy may have had weird flukey injuries that irritated and boggled the mind, but he also fought through a lot of injuries. Wish him the best.
  16. We've gone over this in previous discussions, but Lucroy loses a lot of his value in a transition to 1B. His offense becomes average (or below if his power never comes around) when put at the 1B position. He needs to catch.
  17. I think if Texas is calling you have to try everything in your power to get Profar. Olt looks good and if you could get Olt and perhaps Holland like previously mentioned than that is a pretty good haul. But Profar is the true prize and even if you had to give up Greinke and others to get him I think it'd be worth it. The idea has been tossed around of Greinke, Hart, and a minor leaguer for Profar and a minor leaguer. That's okay with me. It hurts us short term, but long term I think it would be a good move.
  18. We most likely could have gotten better than Gomez for Hardy...but how much better? Hindsight is definitely 20/20 on that trade since we traded Escobar as well, but at the time Hardy had no value, did not want to change positions, and had absolutely no place on the team. Gomez was an upside guy that still hasn't panned out production wise, but he's been a huge contributor in key moments for the Brewers. In short: I hate complaining about the Hardy trade...
  19. Profar may be a superstar. He also may be god awful. Trout and Harper are already stars. And yeah, I'd agree that Fiers better than Gallardo is VERY extreme. I think Fiers is older than Gallardo?
  20. I would probably do a Ramirez for Hairston or something along those lines. They'd probably want Hairston though considering if they had ARam then they could actually use Hairston as an utility IF which is what he is. However, I'd only trade him if you get Castellanos or Olt. Green might have a okay future ahead of him, but not worth giving up Aram for.
  21. Well the actual financials haven't been released yet I don't think (ie yearly breakdown). As the guys at Brew Hoop went over, there could be incentives like Bogut had for being finals MVP and other things that will more than likely never happen. Also, the option year could be a team option for 10 million or something along those lines where really they only end up paying 4 years 35 mil. It's not that bad of a deal in that case. As far as the Howard deal...is it really worth it for the Nets? They can sign him as a free agent next summer for just cash and no picks, players, etc. Plus they should be competitive enough this year to make the playoffs without him. Oh well, they want to make a splash, and I guess a 4-team mega deal is the way to do it.
  22. Mat had a little better credentials on the minor league side, and was a higher touted prospect in the first place, but it could just be a lack of PT like you say. I personally would have preferred him over McGehee, but not over anyone we have in the IF right now. Unless Weeks starts sucking badly again the rest of the season. I should mention he can't play SS or he would certainly be playing everyday.
  23. Thanks for the clarification guys, I was thinking it was top 10 at each position but it's just top 125 overall. Even still they won't offer that much to Marcum most likely and maybe to Hart, it depends on his production the next two years.
  24. Are people really still taking what DM says to heart? Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE is available in a trade right now, it just depends on what is being offered. He's not going to trade Braun or Gallardo for just anybody. But he'll listen. Just because someone reported or Doug Melvin publicly said so and so is not available does not mean ANYTHING! It's GM speak, and Melvin is a master at it. Hart has value still, but I honestly think he has less value now than he did when ATL wanted him in 2010, so it would be almost pointless to trade him seeing as they weren't offering a great package then either (Mike Minor was rumored). He really does have more value on the Brewers than elsewhere right now. Now that could change by July 31st when teams get desperate. I also wanted to address the draft pick compensation that people have been throwing around like it hadn't changed. I was under the impression that they had to be a top 10 player financially and you had to offer that much in arbitration to get the picks, or in other words only Greinke would grant us picks. I doubt Marcum fits into that build and Corey Hart wouldn't either. I haven't double checked the actual rules though if anyone knows better than I do.
