  1. So while that obviously wasn’t a good play by Hiura, it was far superior to him getting no outs in his previous DP attempt.
  2. Narvaez is like the create-a-player feature in MLB The Show where you only have so many total points to distribute among the various skills. After pouring all of the allotted points towards defense last year, maybe he went back to using up a sizeable amount of his points on the bat this year.
  3. Somehow Molina’s second infield hit of the season. One shy of tying Garcia (and five others) as the league leader!
  4. For his career Martinez has been much tougher on right handed hitters than left handed hitters.... Vs. RHH: .225 BA / .292 OBP / .322 SLG Vs. LHH: .261 BA / .348 OBP / .403 SLG He has pitched nearly 1,900 plate appearances against both sides.
  5. Just noticed the Brewers lineup graphic had both JBJ and Garcia listed as RF. That could be interesting. Actually, Will Sammon of The Athletic just did a really good article on the history of lineup card exchanges, Baseball’s rich, colorful and (sometimes) profane history of the lineup card exchange
  6. The Cardinals lineup is now listed in the original post. The good news for Houser is they don’t have many lefty bats.
  7. It appears rain is expected on and off in St. Louis for much of the day. A possible break around game time, but another wave expected in the late afternoon.
  8. That’s awesome you were able to attend it! Apparently with the Padres getting the no-hitter the Brewers now have the second longest drought without one. Only Cleveland has gone longer without a no-hitter.
  9. Adrian Houser: Batter (Cardinals) vs Pitching Stats Carlos Martinez: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cardinals-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cardinals-Brewers
  10. Joe Musgrove just threw a no-hitter for the Padres, the first in their franchise’s history. Acquiring former Pirates starting pitchers may be the ultimate market inefficiency.
  11. It was over 4 inches outside of the strike zone. It was the worst called strike of the day in MLB. Twitter Link
  12. Yelich had 3 hits and a walk yesterday. Shaw had 3 hits today from the cleanup spot. When you have middle of the order bats getting multiple hits it’s sort of incredible not to produce any runs as a result of those hits.
  13. If Wong’s oblique injury worsens Strange-Gordon could end up being more than minor league depth. From McCalvy... Craig Counsell on Kolten Wong's oblique: "The injured list is a distinct possibility, but we're not definite on it yet. We're going to see how he feels when he wakes up tomorrow. He still has pretty good strength, which is a good sign."
  14. The “1” below was a first pitch called strike on Vogelbach. That’s not a borderline call like some of the other outside strikes today, that’s just awful. He worked into a three ball count after that.
  15. Do we know why Robertson replaced Wong? Was it just to do a double switch when Yardley came in? If so, talk about an all-time backfire in a one run game.
  16. Per Jason Catania: Pitchers to have CONSECUTIVE outings of 6+ IP, 0 BB and no more than 1 H allowed Corbin Burnes (2021)* Hal Brown (1963) Cy Young (1904) *First two outings of the season.
  17. If Yelich would’ve made that catch in the first inning Burnes would be currently working on a potential really special outing.
  18. Since we are likely to have an automated strike zone in the near future I assume the technology calling the pitch a strike would automatically overrule the HBP call?
  19. Unbelievable. Kudos to the Mets announcers for calling their own team out rather than defending that crap. MLB needs to make whether or not the hitter attempted to get out of the way a reviewable call and actually call it. That's never called. What is wrong with that homeplate ump? He was literally going to call it a strike. How can he say Conforto tried to get out of the way? Completely agree that it needs to be reviewable. Right now hitters have plenty of incentive to lean into inside pitches. If the ball does make contact with the batters elbow the odds it gets called correctly are unfortunately not very high. In that case I am shocked the home plate ump went from ready to call a strike to calling it a HBP. Wouldn’t you take a second to criticality think through the fact a batter was just by a pitch you saw as in the strike zone.
  20. According to his Wikipedia page... Strange-Gordon's full name is Devaris Strange-Gordon. Friends and family call him Varis. He was known professionally by his full name until 2008 when a Missoula Osprey public address announcer mispronounced his first and last names. He thereafter chose to be known professionally simply as Dee Gordon. In 2020, he stated that he would like to return to being known by his legal surname professionally, to honor his mother.
