  1. In case you were wondering (because I was) the closest a pitcher has ever thrown two no-hitters is four days apart by the Reds Johnny Vander Meer in 1938.
  2. Woodruff throwing 10 pitches to the first batter of the game and walking him isn’t an ideal start.
  3. Tonight’s centerfield camera angle is a good reminder to be grateful that the Brewers/FSN finally fixed their angle to be more straight-on a few years ago.
  4. From Adam McCalvy... Dee Strange-Gordon was still in the intake protocol as of yesterday afternoon after agreeing to a Minor League deal with Milwaukee earlier this month. Sounds like that signing should be official soon.
  5. Both lineups are available above (in the opening post) now. Grisham missed yesterday’s game and is out tonight, wonder if his previous hamstring injury flared up again. EDIT: Grisham was apparently scratched yesterday with tightness in his left quad, so he’s presumably still dealing with that.
  6. Baseball Trade Values founder John Bitzer wrote this article on Trevor Story’s likely trade value at the deadline for those who may be interested... Projecting Trevor Story’s Value at the Trade Deadline Seems like it’s a pretty large range depending on a handful of factors that play out over the next few months.
  7. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Padres) vs Pitching Stats Joe Musgrove: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Padres-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Padres-Brewers
  8. From Adam McCalvy... Craig Counsell on why he didn't double switch when Josh Hader came into the game in the 9th, which would have given him the option of Hader vs. Moran in the 10th: "At this point here, we're just going to stick with Josh for one inning right now, at this point in the season."
  9. That’s a really good point. It feels like that, and the limit on Hader’s usage to strictly one inning are decisions that significantly lower your odds of winning a game like this.
  10. First time the Brewers lost a game this season in which they scored 4+ runs. This one stings a bit.
  11. Just killed Robertson’s chances with those bad high “strike” calls.
  12. Hader looks so, so good. If the Brewers had a couple more reliable bullpen arms Hader would absolutely be the perfect pitcher for extra innings. His high K% skill set is so incredibly valuable with the extra runner situation.
  13. They need to force Crick to throw some pitches so they don’t have to face him again in the 9th.
  14. Devin in the 8th inning of close game, just like old times. Let’s hope the command makes further progress today.
  15. Alright Vogelbach! Now lets go get Boxberger the win!!
  16. The Polo Grounds maybe? Mike Petriello had an example the other day of a hit that was a massively well hit ball (by exit velocity and launch angle) that wasn’t a home run because it was hit on a cold day straight into a strong breeze. He said something to the effect of “that’s exactly why sometimes massive home runs don’t have 1.000 expected BA”.
  17. Sort of funny that your first post in over a week is to complain about needing bats. At least you’re staying on brand upon your return.
  18. Sigh. I am just not a Boxberger believer at all. I know they don’t have a lot of better options, but it already feels like he’s going to give up a ton of game deciding runs this year. I very much hope I’m wrong.
  19. I know they’re talking about bringing Taylor in for McKinney here, but it’s worth noting that so far in his short MLB career Taylor has a .986 OPS against RHP and just a .669 OPS against LHP. That being said, you can’t really draw any strong conclusions based on less than 60 plate appearances.
  20. I know there was a string of lefties scheduled to come up, but it seems like the Brewers must be fairly confident in Perdomo if they’re willing to go to him in the 6th inning of a tie game. (Or not so confident in some of their other options)
  21. This would be a good inning to knock Kuhl out of the game.
  22. That two out walk with Moran on-deck certainly feels ominous. EDIT: Thank you, Freddy.
  23. Completely agree, deploying him over multiple innings was such a huge component of their previous success.
  24. They only had Hader throw more than 1 inning once last season (and it was 1.1 IP). They haven’t had him throw more than 1.1 IP since September 7, 2019. I hope they are still open to it, but I’m slowly getting the feeling the days of him going 2 innings (or more) are likely over.
