  1. Worth watching how the Mets-Marlins game ended if you haven’t seen it yet. This is the Mets broadcasters here upset with how the game ended even though the bad call benefited the Mets: Twitter Video Link
  2. Cardinals look like the team executing the “run prevention” model through two innings. EDIT: The jinx worked like a charm. EDIT #2: The Cardinals have reverted to looking like a clown show defensively.
  3. Per Ken Rosenthal: Dee Strange-Gordon in agreement with Brewers on a minor-league contract, source tells The Athletic. Strange-Gordon spent Spring Training with the Reds this year. He has over 4,100 career MLB plate appearances.
  4. We have two (partial) winners! Phillies and Astros are correct. Braun’s line against Phillies in 332 plate appearances: .385 BA / .429 OBP / .706 SLG / 1.134 OPS Braun’s line against Astros in 412 plate appearances: .333 BA / .398 OBP / .631 SLG / 1.029 OPS
  5. Padres are 5th on the list (in terms of OPS) of teams he faced in greater than 100 ABs. In 277 plate appearances against the Padres, Braun had a line of .293 BA / .368 OBP / .550 SLG / .918 OPS
  6. Haha, I have faith. One is much harder than the other, IMO. One of the teams much was made about all of the home runs he hit in their home ballpark.
  7. No, Braun had 803 and 797 plate appearances respectively, against those teams. He was very good against the Cubs (.945 OPS), but the Cardinals were his toughest opponent over the course of his career (.781 OPS) among those he had greater than 50 plate appearances against.
  8. Here’s a fun trivia question (no cheating): Over his career Ryan Braun had an OPS above 1.000 against two teams that he had more than 100 career at bats against. Can you name them? Hint -- His number of career plate appearances against the two teams was 337 and 412.
  9. The flip-side is Christian Yelich has been an absolute Cardinal-killer over his career. Over 271 career plate appearances (225 at bats) against the Cardinals Yelich has the following line: .302 BA / .417 OBP / .618 SLG / 1.035 OPS
  10. Regarding that chart, two of the top four All-Time “Brewer-killers” were [predominantly] Rockies during their appearances versus the Brewers. Let’s hope Arenado’s past success against the Crew begins to dissipate very quickly going forward.
  11. From Adam McCalvy: Paul Goldschmidt being out of the Cardinals lineup today (lower back) removes one of the all-time Brewer-killers from Corbin Burnes' plate -- including 5-for-11 with a homer off Burnes himself.
  12. Lineups are now included in the opening post. Goldschmidt is reportedly out of the lineup due a lower back issue.
  13. I don’t know how to find average run support, but Baseball Reference splits allows you to find how many total runs a team scored for the entire game when a pitcher started on their player splits pages. Here is the breakdown for those two seasons in game’s started for each pitcher: Ben Sheets 2004 34 Games Started 0-2 Runs Scored: 14 times (1-12 record in those games) 3-5 Runs Scored: 12 times (7-2 record in those games) 6+ Runs Scored: 8 times (4-0 record in those games) Jacob deGrom 2018 32 Games Started 0-2 Runs Scored: 12 times (0-7 record in those games) 3-5 Runs Scored: 13 times (5-2 record in those games) 6+ Runs Scored: 7 times (5-0 record in those games) Also, this was noted in a previous In-Game Thread, but the Brewers have scored 0-2 runs for the entire game in over half of Adrian Houser’s career starts. That’s 0-2 total runs in 16 of his 30 starts.
  14. Here’s a Ripley’s Believe It or Not fun fact.... Last season Corbin Burnes won four games. In those four wins the Brewers outscored their opponents a combined 40-2.
  15. Corbin Burnes over his career has been feast or famine versus this current collection of Cardinals hitters. Amazingly 35 of their 45 at bats against him has ended in either a strike out (19) or base hit (16). Among those 16 hits, 5 have been home runs, but he only gave up 1 HR over his two short appearances (4.2 IP and 3.2 IP) against the Cardinals last season (both came in September).
  16. Corbin Burnes: Batter (Cardinals) vs Pitching Stats Adam Wainwright: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cardinals-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cardinals-Brewers
  17. I think the other thing Counsell may cite is that Woodruff’s command (which had been absolutely pinpoint through most of the game) had started to loosen a bit in the 7th inning.
  18. Hader comes into the 9th spot in the batting order (due up next) so it’s unlikely he’s going more than one inning if it does reach extras.
  19. The other problem with how this is lining up is Hader’s high strikeout profile is ridiculously valuable once you get to extra innings with the runner starting on 2B. By taking Woodruff out early you’ve likely eliminated that possibility as well.
