  1. The Cubs with newfound financial flexibility per the article...
  2. Similar to Christian Yelich and Brice Turang, Mahki Backstrom and Joshua Romero were members of the Brewers Area Code Games team. Here is some footage of Joshua Romero hitting at the Brewers Maryvale complex (Twitter Link).
  3. Completely agree, can’t thank Toby enough for providing such a great draft resource. This is by far the least I’ve followed the draft prospects in quite a few years. One random observation, there are two prospects in the top 120 named Brennan Malone and Brennan Milone. Teams are going to have to be extra careful when submitting their card for the former in the 1st round. With the Brewers drafting so far down the board it is nearly impossible to project their pick. I always prefer hitters to pitchers in the 1st round, but it seems the value in the Brewers range may skew towards the available arms. I’ll throw out a prediction before Monday night.

  5. The Brewers went 7-12 versus the Pirates last season, by far their worst head-to-head record against any opponent in 2018 (next closest was 9-11 versus Cubs). Hopefully the Brewers can turn that trend around in 2019. Looking at the batter vs. pitcher matchups, Chase Anderson has fared well against the Pirates with the exception of Starling Marte who has gone 13-for-27 with 6 extra base hits (3-2B, 1-3B, 2-HR) against Anderson. On the flip side the current Brewers have hit Joe Musgrove well (.921 OPS), but in a very limited amount of at bats (just 42).

  7. From FanGraphs Mock Draft 3.0 - Two Rounds:
  8. Normally I wouldn’t bemoan missed opportunities in a game with a 3-run deficit, but tonight seems like one that could be going so much better than the current score indicates.
  9. I don’t think using Claudio to face multiple hitters in the 7th inning of a tie game is ever a good move. Predictably disappointing outcome.
  10. The Brewers are on a 91.5 win pace after playing arguably the toughest collection of opponents through the first one-third of the season (55 games). They have set themselves up nicely by staying above .500 to this point in the season with the schedule on the horizon seemingly easing up.
  11. There has been speculation that the White Sox are working on a contract extension with Abreu, and it seems that he has a strong desire to remain with the White Sox for the foreseeable future. Rick Hahn said this two week ago about Abreu: “He’s been here throughout the early stages of this rebuild and certainly very likely he’ll be here in the more enjoyable stages that lie ahead of us. I truly believe that.” It could certainly just be posturing for trade value, but I’ll be a little surprised if the White Sox trade Abreu this season. I also don’t think the trade him now and re-sign him in the off-season tactic is something that is likely in this case (or almost any cases for that matter).

  15. Just realized this is the third straight Saturday with extra innings. Hopefully not as many innings this time around.
  16. The Brewers have the most plate appearances with the bases loaded in all of baseball at 75 total now. The next closest teams in MLB are the Dodgers and Red Sox who have 58 PAs with the bases loaded. Unfortunately the Brewers have a 67 wRC+ with the bases loaded (Dodgers are at 143 wRC+ and Red Sox at 158 wRC+ with the bases loaded). On the bottom end of the spectrum 10 teams have less than 40 PAs with the bases loaded including 4 with less than 30 PAs with the bags full. Now 77 plate appearances with the bases loaded... sigh.
