  1. In hindsight they really needed Yelich’s bat in the lineup tonight. Just haven’t been able to produce much at all for what now equates to two full games worth of innings.
  2. Only eight innings to go for the Brewers to tie their franchise record (and MLB record) for most innings played in a game. Box Score: Brewers-White Sox on May 8, 1984 Beyond the Box Score: The Longest Game in Major League History
  3. Completely inexcusable in that sort of situation. Thames only job is to not get picked off there, he is a meaningless runner.
  4. Thames not scoring back in the 3rd inning seems more significant now. The replay camera angles never really showed Thames, but I assume he would have likely scored (although at the point they held him not sure if Cano had bobbled the relay yet).
  5. For being a series between the two teams that have had far and away the worst pitching performances in the NL so far this season it has been quite a pitchers dual in these first couple of games.
  6. That almost seems like a given at this point. Their previous team record of 231 HR in 2007 was an average of 1.43 home runs per game. Currently through 34 games they have 61 home runs which is an average of 1.80 per game. From this point forward they would need to average less than 1.3 HR/game the rest of the way in order to not break the record, which seems unlikely. Another HR fun fact, the Brewers are only 21 home runs away this season from tying the total number of HRs hit by the 1992 Brewers for the entire season (a team that won 92 games). They should have that number before Memorial Day this year.
  7. From a Tweet this morning courtesy of MLB’s Daren Willman (Director of Research & Development), breaking down MILB win % by organization:

  9. After giving up a run in the 1st inning the Brewers pitchers combine to pitch 8 scoreless. Nice bounce back game after a couple of frustrating days on the mound.
  10. Well here is an online photo of his game worn jersey. http://leiteradvantage.net/leiteradvantagemark_files/IMG_1312.jpg I know that isn’t what you are looking for, but that was the best I could find. I am surprised at the dearth of photos since his year with the team was during the Miller Park era.
  11. I am surprised they overturned that out call. It didn’t look clear either way, seems like they should have stuck with the call on the field. I’ve pretty much given up trying to guess the outcome of replay reviews.
  12. For those that missed it, Adam McCalvy asked Craig Counsell this afternoon if the change in pitching coaches had an impact on the pitching struggles. Here is video of Counsell’s answer: Does the departure of Derek Johnson explain the Brewers’ pitching problems?
  13. I have been meaning to mention this, but a couple weeks ago Mike Ferrin on MLB Network Radio suggested that the Brewers should target LHP Caleb Smith as a mid-season starting pitching acquisition. The Brewers actually drafted Smith in the 2016 Rule 5 Draft, but they traded him away immediately to the Cubs (suggesting they likely just made the pick on the Cubs behalf). I have my doubts regarding whether the Marlins would even consider trading with the Brewers at this point, or at least entertaining anything beyond a complete overpay on the Brewers part. It could also be argued that it would be potentially buying high on a player without a long track record. Still, the scouting reports on Smith have been very positive this year, and the numbers suggest he is absolutely dealing as a starter. Here is a FanGraphs article on Smith’s breakout: Caleb Smith Gives Us a Reason to Watch the Marlins
  14. Christian Yelich is out of the lineup once again. This is the 5th straight game he isn't starting, no word yet on his availability to pinch hit if needed.
