  1. I think Peralta is a good candidate to pitch following the use of a one inning opener. He struggles against left-handed hitters, so he would likely be bypassing a team’s very best lefties the first time through the order (and making it one less time total he would have to face them for the game). You could use someone like LHP Donnie Hart to take the first inning, with Peralta coming in starting in the 2nd to face the middle-to-bottom of the order for his first time taking the mound.

  3. All things considered they have to feel pretty good to get out of the 6th just giving up one. Nice quick work for Claudio.

  5. What do you do with him? Especially now that it looks like Yelich might be out for awhile the Brewers can’t afford that complete black hole in the batting order. He’s not going to get better sitting on the bench, but they can’t send him to the minors and can’t play him regularly. Unfortunately, thanking him for his service and great half season but letting him go may have to be considered if he doesn’t contribute something before too long. Obviously he has been terrible. I think the earliest they would possibly move on from him is the end of May or beginning of June. If he has another month of being nearly as dreadful then maybe they’ll consider it. If they do move on from him I think Hiura would basically serve as the replacement bat as 1B coverage is rotated between Thames, Shaw, and Grandal. Also, obviously not apples-to-apples, but Aguilar now has just two extra base hits in 85 plate appearances. By contrast at Triple-A Hiura has 17 extra base hits in 86 plate appearances.
  6. With Cain, Gamel, Braun due up I think you have to hope two of them can get on and then hit Grandal in place of Aguilar in the 4th spot.
  7. Prior to that two run double Tomas Nido had a career .438 OPS in 106 plate appearances at the MLB level.
  8. To be fair, the ump called the 3-0 pitch with the bases loaded for the Mets a strike when it was a ball. That was my thought exactly. Both pitches were in nearly identical locations outside the strike zone.
  9. And then a Wilkerson kick save for out number three! I love baseball sometimes.
  10. Wilkerson elevates the 89-mph heater to blow it by Alonso for strike three!
  11. For as tough as offense has been to come by today the Brewers are still down just two runs. Hopefully they can get something on the board and put some pressure on the Mets.
  12. Going all the way back to Spring Training, Ben Gamel has made some incredibly impressive defensive plays.
  13. Braun was trying to catch an Alonso hit ball near the wall and a fan dumped a beer on him while he was going for it. The liquid hit him in two separate splashes of beer, the first was smaller and the second soaked him. Braun pointed to it has he went for the ball he missed, and Alonso ended up with a “triple” that was then upheld after a review. Here is a photo....
  14. I am at a complete loss all the way around. The Mets crowd management is a complete joke if they aren’t doing anything about that one. It’s really, really pathetic.
  15. I am steaming, there is no way that should be a triple. Completely inexcusable, MLB needs to issue a statement on that one. Other than not wanting to be complete morons, why wouldn’t fans just throw beer on all of the plays near the wall if it doesn’t impact the ground rules?
  16. That has to be fan interference, right? Kick that idiot out... for life.
  17. The San Antonio starter for today is now listed as TBD. Jimmy Nelson’s wife gave birth to twins overnight: Twitter Link Edit: Thomas Jankins taking the mound for the Missions in place of Jimmy.
  18. It appears that Jimmy Nelson has been scratched from his scheduled start today, but it is not for an injury related reason. His wife gave birth to twins overnight: Twitter Link

  20. One encouraging sign for Brandon Woodruff aside from the overall solid start tonight is that he now has 38 Ks in 31.1 IP this season.
  21. I'm not sure you can bring that up. I was told play the cards you're dealt and be happy we have a team. I am not trying to single just you out specifically because you certainly aren’t the only one to do this, but the facetious “you can’t say that around here because I was told ____” type posts have grown tiresome in my opinion.
