  1. I would’ve suggested not walking Matt Carpenter on four pitches in that situation. EDIT: What do I know!
  2. Completely agree. Booing him seems silly, especially considering the context surrounding some of the players who haven’t been booed for things far more inexcusable than this. I’m frustrated with Devin and what he did was certainly incredibly dumb, but not to the point I’d ever consider booing him for something he’s admitted was a terrible mistake and didn’t physically harm anyone else. I do respect the fact they were so forthright with the details instead of trying to be purposely vague surrounding the whole thing.
  3. Brewers are calling up reliever Colin Rea to take Devin’s roster spot.
  4. So he hurt it on Sunday, but didn’t tell anyone with the team until yesterday when he tried to throw. They did X-rays during the game last night.
  5. Here’s a Twitter video link of Stearns and Williams discussing it (via Todd Rosiak).
  6. It might be time to actually free Luke Barker.
  7. From Will Sammon… Huge blow to the Brewers: Devin Williams fractured his pitch hand after punching a wall, he told media today. He’s out the rest of the year. If the Brewers make the World Series, there’s a chance he could be back for it, David Stearns said. Devin Williams said he had a couple of drinks and out of frustration he punched the wall. There was no altercation, Stearns said. This happened on Sunday after the Brewers’ celebration. The severity wasn’t known until today. It requires surgery.
  8. Punched a wall with his pitching hand? Oof. Per Adam McCalvy… Devin Williams is being placed on the 10-day IL with a fractured right hand. He told us he had too much to drink after Sunday’s celebration, got upset about something and punched a wall with his pitching hand. He will need surgery. “If I could take it back, I would.”

  10. Well I very much like the spirit! I don’t know though, the Dodgers are such a complete team. Adding both an MVP and a Cy Young candidate in one fell swoop at the trade deadline was an impactful move to an already strong roster.
  11. Well count me in the club that thinks the Phillies are a much better matchup for the Brewers than the Braves, and would be ecstatic to face anyone but the Dodgers in the NLCS (Red Birds included).
  12. BTW, the Braves have 5 LHP in their bullpen. That’s not ideal from the Brewers standpoint if they end up being the NL East winner. Edit: Braves win.
  13. Eddie Rosario just made one of the worst missed/dropped fly ball botches I’ve seen by a big league outfielder to give the Phillies hope in the 9th. Still 2-0 Braves, but Phils have the bases loaded with one out in the 9th. Edit: Make it 2-1, but now 2 outs with runners at the corners.
  14. This would’ve been a huge splash. Have to imagine names like Mitchell and Ashby were involved in those conversations. I also think acquiring switch hitters is something we’ll see the Brewers will prioritize over the next few years. Obviously they made that trade for Escobar, and attempted this trade for Reynolds. With how much they like to stack lineups with the platoon advantage it makes sense to have some switch hitters on the roster.
  15. The only thing they truly “need to” do this week is stay healthy.
  16. From Jay Jaffe of FanGraphs: The Cardinals’ Impressive Winning Streak Doesn’t Guarantee October Success

  18. This is where the magic number thread gets really fun. Yep, eleven Postseason wins away from baseball immortality.
  19. Jeff Passan sums up the AL wild card race with this Tweet… Yankees 89-67 Red Sox 88-68 Blue Jays 87-69 Mariners 86-70 A's 85-71 NY vs. Jays for three, then Yanks-Rays. Sox get Orioles and Nats. Jays end with O's. Mariners-A's in eliminator series. Then: M's-Angels, A's-Astros. Top two play in wild card game. This week is gonna rule.
  20. Brewers put up an 8-spot on Ryan Braun Day and clinch the division championship on the final regular season home game of 2021. Storybook stuff today.
  21. So is Braun going to give one of his patented celebration speeches in the locker room?
