  1. What happened? They complained about Cousins glove being too light of a tan color and the umps made him change it. It was the same glove he’s used all season. He now has a tiny black glove.
  2. This isn’t Tyrone Taylor’s first YouTube broadcast rodeo. He also had a bunch of big hits in last year’s 19-0 YouTube game against the Tigers.
  3. I was just going to post the same thing. Taylor absolutely should be on the roster over JBJ especially with the lack of good righty bench bats. JBJ offers defense and baserunning but it's just not enough. If our CF was a liability it would be enough but we have Lorenzo Cain. JBJs bat is just too poor for the things he does well to make up for it. Regarding the base running thing, Tyrone Taylor is significantly faster than JBJ according to Statcast’s sprint speed. Taylor (28.6 feet per second) is in the 87th percentile of sprint speed while JBJ (27.2 feet per second) has been in the 55th percentile among all MLB hitters this year.
  4. With Wainwright’s highest usage pitch being his curveball (thrown 35% of the time), at least the Brewers have 3 of the top 50 MLB hitters against curveballs this season: Brewers hitters versus curveballs Avisail Garcia: .294 BA / .634 SLG Willy Adames: .222 BA / .593 SLG Eduardo Escobar: .233 BA / .581 SLG Unfortunately it appears Avi isn’t in the lineup today.
  5. Those home hitting stats are incorrect. Brewers at home: .224 BA / .315 OBP / .386 SLG / .700 OPS Still not great, but not as bad as listed. Can’t wait to play the Cardinals at Busch where they have a .692 OPS.
  6. The Brewers can erase a lot of the bad memories of this week with a win today. Overall the Cardinals aren’t quite as adept at hitting the sinker, Adrian Houser’s feature pitch with a 54% usage rate, as other playoff teams like the Giants and Dodgers. The Cardinals hitters that have mashed sinkers this season are Dylan Carlson (.348 BA / .551 SLG), Harrison Bader (.359 BA / .563 SLG), Paul Goldschmidt (.328 BA / .541 SLG), Tyler O’Neill (.326 BA / .500 SLG), Edmundo Sosa (.396 BA / .547 SLG). The Cardinals have several other hitters that are well below average versus the sinker this year including Edman, Arenado, and Yadi.

  8. The Brewers are part of the Salt River Rafters team (playing at the home of the Dbacks and Rockies). Here’s the breakdown of teams that are partnered together:
  9. I don’t know, but I’m 100% sure there would’ve been a narrative about them celebrating too early if a big celebration had preceded the losing streak. I mean, honestly my comment could have/should have been in blue, but there was a lot of chatter like "we've been here before" etc, etc. lol, we had the LDS/LCS in 18, a one game elimination in 19, and *whatever* last year was. If all that has people spoiled already, I don't know what to say. I know there's a bigger goal in mind, but take pride in the achievements along the way. I agree on your last point. Aside from whether it had any lasting impact, I was a little disappointed they didn’t appear to have even a mild celebration. I tend to believe celebrating success as a collective is a positive thing to do. Having reasons to celebrate multiple times is a good thing.
  10. I don’t know, but I’m 100% sure there would’ve been a narrative about them celebrating too early if a big celebration had preceded the losing streak.
  11. Rays celebrating tonight. So far I believe the Brewers have been the only team that didn’t celebrate clinching a playoff spot, although I guess I’m not sure if the Dodgers did? The Giants definitely did so.
  12. No, I find comfort in the fact the Brewers still have three games against the Cardinals next week. Winning one of those shaves two games off the magic number, so as long as they win one game between now and Sunday (or the Cardinals lose one) they will show up in St. Louis with a chance to clinch with a single win.
  13. Well one positive from tonight is the Brewers appear they are going to get through the game without using any of pitchers from their upper tier. Still have Ashby available for another day.
  14. Tired: “The Cardinals were determined to not let the Brewers clinch the division in front of them this week.” Wired: The Brewers were determined to wait to clinch the division against the Cardinals in front of their self appointed “best fans in baseball.”
  15. I’m sort of curious to see them face good pitching again. They’ve gotten shutdown this week, but it’s been by mostly below average starters.
  16. For me, if after one week from tonight the evening ends and the Brewers are entering their final four games still needing 2+ wins I’ll start to get slightly nervous. More concerning at the moment is the obvious that I’d like to see the offense putting good at bats together more consistently. That, and if Brett Anderson doesn’t pitch again I’d be good with it.
  17. Mikolas has been roughed up a bit in 4 of his last 5 starts (since 8/26 he’s allowed 15 earned runs over his last 23.0 IP), but the same could be said for 3 of Brett Anderson’s last 4 starts (has allowed 12 earned runs in last 14.2 IP). Below are some key contributors against today’s opposing starting pitchers. Somewhat surprisingly the Brewers hitters don’t have many combined plate appearances against Mikolas. Brewers vs. Mikolas Cain: 4-for-14, 1 double, 1 home run, 2 strikeouts Yelich: 3-for-17, 1 home run, 1 walk, 5 strikeouts Piña: 4-for-8, 1 home run, 1 strikeout Cardinals vs. Anderson Goldschmidt: 10-for-21, 1 double, 2 home runs, 4 walks, 1 strikeout Arenado: 7-for-18, 2 home runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout Bader: 2-for-3, 1 triple Edman: 3-for-7

  19. On a positive note, it was another encouraging outing from Woodruff, and Boxberger bounced back with a scoreless appearance.
  20. Nah, they really can't. This series has been frustrating, but it would take a historically epic collapse the likes of which have never been seen in MLB history for what you are suggesting to even come close to happening. And if that sort of collapse were to occur, then at that point I’ll tip my hat to the Cardinals and come to terms with the fact the Brewers have no one to blame but themselves. We’re a looooooong way from that possibility becoming reality, however, so I’ll continue to not obsess over it.
  21. Those same Cardinals sluggers that have the 4th fewest home runs against LHPs in MLB this season.
