  1. Final: Brevard County 2, Palm Beach 1 Perrin, Manatees edge Cardinals Brevard County Manatees http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/1/2/184082712/cuts/IMG_0952_d_rs_rjjxu3n6_0gq8l1s8.jpg Jon Perrin pitched into the seventh inning during Tuesday's win against Palm Beach. Perrin earned his first Florida State League win. *** VIERA, Fla. - Coming off an outpouring of offense on Monday, the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals with pitching and defense Tuesday, 2-1. Brevard County's second win in a row was due in large part to starter Jon Perrin, who pitched into the seventh inning to pick up his first win of the season. "Outstanding pitching" Manatees Manager Joe Ayrault said, "It was a great start for Perrin, getting his first win in the Florida State League." Junior Rincon came on in the seventh to get the final two outs, pitching 1 1/3 innings, followed by Jon Olczak, who picked up his sixth save of the season. "Rincon came in with a runner in scoring position in the seventh and shut them down. Then Olczak came in and got a huge out for us and put them down in the ninth. It was an outstanding job by our pitching and defense." Offensively the Manatees did just enough, scoring the first run of the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Elvis Rubio, bringing in Dustin DeMuth from third. Then in the bottom of the fifth, George Iskenderian crushed a ball 411 feet over the left centerfield wall, giving the Manatees a 2-0 lead. "We came through with the two runs. On the first, great base running by DeMuth, tagging up and going to second." Ayrault said, "And here in this ballpark, any time that you get a homer it's big for you. Iskenderian's ended up being the key run for us in the game." Palm Beach scored its run in the seventh, as Perrin administered a one out walk to Casey Grayson. Mason Katz then ripped a double to left, sending Grayson home for the only blemish on Perrin's night. In his first win of the season, Perrin pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up just the one run on four hits and struck out five. "He's got good stuff, and he's really trying to work on getting his change ups in there." Ayrault said, "He does a good job with his sinker and slider, mixing his pitches really well. Two big double plays with Jose Cuas and Iskenderian turning them over early in the game. He was able to induce them and did a nice job tonight." Brevard County will play the final game of the series on Wednesday, as it will take on Palm Beach at 10:35am at Space Coast Stadium. The Manatees will then travel to Daytona on Thursday, their final game before the Florida State League All-Star Weekend. Brevard County Box Score With the homerun, George Iskenderian extends his hitting streak to seven games. Multi-hit games for the Dustin's, Dustin DeMuth and Dustin Houle, who both went 2-for-3. Only three strikeouts for the Manatees batters which is impressive considering they are averaging almost a strikeout per inning this year. Brevard County Game Log

  4. Final: Brevard County 8, Palm Beach 3 Manatees pummel Palm Beach with 13-hit effort By Donald Rieber, Jr., Manatees Examiner http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/image_content_width/hash/4d/46/4d46844b714e25526b324f74b7303fca.jpg?itok=6G9Jtxox Clint Coulter making a leaping catch in the second inning of Monday's game. (Brevard County Manatees - Tim Holle) LINK: PHOTO GALLERY (6 Photos) *** Brevard County Box Score For the second straight evening two of the more offensively challenged teams in the FSL combined for 11 runs, but this time the Manatees got the better end of the match-up. Ironically it was Awful Night at Space Coast Stadium where everything from the music to the between innings contest was "awful", but the offensive production was just the opposite. Eight Manatees got at least one base hit, and 2-for-4 was a reoccurring theme as five Manatees recorded multi-hit games: Dustin DeMuth (2-for-4, homerun); Elvis Rubio (2-for-4); Fidel Pena (2-for-4, triple); Dustin Houle (2-for-4, double); Jose Cuas (2-for-4). With the homerun DeMuth moved into sole possession of the team lead with four long balls on the season. The Manatees also got clutch hitting, going 6-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Returning to the mound for the first time in over two weeks, Kodi Medeiros had a solid 5.0 inning outing finishing with four hits, one earned run, one walk, and four strikeouts. The game article includes plenty of quotes from Manatees manager Joe Ayrault including details on Clint Coulter's hitless, but still productive night. Collymore has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games. The only multi-hit effort was Omar Garcia who finished 2-for-4 and a walk.. Brevard County Game Log The Manatees walk-off winning frame was hitless and ended by very unlikely means. Brevard County Bottom of the 10th Garcia walks. With Elvis Rubio batting, Fidel Pena advances to 2nd on defensive indifference. Elvis Rubio strikes out swinging. Passed ball by catcher Brian Olson. Omar Garcia scores. Elvis Rubio to 1st.
  10. As great as it would be there does not appear to be much hope for signing 40th round selection RHP Kyle Serrano from the University of Tennessee. Kyle was a well regarded pitching prospect coming into the season, but unfortunately has since had Tommy John surgery and missed his junior season. The UT head coach will likely have a say, Kyle's dad Dave Serrano.
  11. 12th or 13th round was Thomas Jankins RHP from Quinnipiac.
  12. For those interested in watching Corey Ray play in the NCAA Super Regionals, Louisville is hosting UC Santa Barbara today at 11:00 AM CT on ESPN2. Will also play tomorrow at the same time on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
  13. Neat video, but at the same time you have feel for him a little bit. To have all of your family, friends, and a news crew all gather while you watch 4-5 hours of draft coverage go by without being selected had to be tough. Glad it all worked out for him and that he is now a member of the Brewers organization!

  15. To be fair he is 31 years old and was acquired off waivers in the off-season. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a "miss" on our part!
  16. Brewers add to their list of all-time competative balance lottery picks... 2013 - Tucker Neuhaus (#72 selection / Comp Rd B) 2014 - Jake Gatewood (#41 selection / Comp Rd A) 2015 - Nathan Kirby (#40 selection / Comp Rd A) 2016 - Mario Feliciano (#75 selection / Comp Rd B)
  17. That was my biggest criticism of the Jack Z/Doug M regime - no LH balance. Seid drafted LH bats but they didn't pan out (Kentrail Davis, Walla, Morris, Ramirez, Neuhaus). I am not ready to give up on Tucker Neuhaus just yet. He is 9 months younger than Corey Ray and would be in his Junior year at Louisville with him had he not signed professionally. I think there is still hope he could progress if he could finally stay healthy.
  18. This is also intriguing about Erceg.... Erceg also possesses a plus-fastball that was clocked at 96-97 mph and posted a 0.78 ERA and struck out 32 over 23 innings, allowing 16 hits and eight walks.
  19. Lucas Erceg is an interesting selection. I saw him get knocked for possible makeup issues, but I believe it mainly was due to his departure from Cal which seems like it was grade related. Intriguing prospect nonetheless.
  20. Thinking maybe Logan Shore, Alec Hansen, Alex Speas, Brandon Marsh, Hunter Bishop, Connor Jones are possibilities for the Brewers here.
  21. I am NOT advocating that this is accurate, but I had to chuckle moments ago when my buddy just gave me a Ty Griffin comp for Corey Ray. Griffin for those who don't remember him was a Georgia Tech OF/IF that was the #9 overall selection by the Cubs in 1988.
  22. [sarcasm]...and that was the day the St. Louis Cardinals drafted the second-coming of Ozzie Smith.[/sarcasm]
  23. Well the NL Central is drafting the All-College performer team so far... Senzel, Ray, Craig
  24. Obviously just speculation, but if there is any savings whatsoever I think it's minimal. He is a $4 million player IMO.
  25. Happy for Gavin Lux to go in the first round. I am really impressed with his bat speed and sounds like a lot of scouts expect him to stick at SS.
