  1. A bunt wouldn’t have been the worst idea in that situation. His odds of getting a hit off the LHP in that situation were so low it would’ve been worth a shot.
  2. Yeah, at this point I’m not sure the defense is enough to justify JBJ getting a playoff spot.
  3. I think that’s the funny thing about baseball… the highs feel so good and the lows can feel like you’ll never win another game. The truth is always somewhere in the middle, but this team is legitimately good. Their pitching is good enough to give them a chance to win on most nights. They have the offensive pieces to score runs. The defense can go through some struggles, but on the whole is above average. It’s a very good baseball team.
  4. A good throw would’ve had a legit shot at Carpenter there. Big run for the red birds.
  5. I’ll stop beating a dead horse after this, but Yelich’s defensive outlook over the next few years might be more worrisome than the offensive part. He may very well end up at 1B or DH sooner than later.
  6. The Brewers have scored more 6th inning runs than any other team in the NL, and the 4th most runs in the 7th and 9th innings. Late in the game is often where they do their damage.
  7. It’s tough to watch how unlikely the chance is for Yelich to throw anyone out at home on a play like that [or even make it close]. I guess that’s one reason to look forward to OF prospects like Mitchell, Wiemer, and Frelick. They can gun guys down from the outfield.
  8. Feels like a big moment in this game. Come on Freddy, work out of this one.
  9. The baseball playoffs are a crapshoot every year, so of course every team that makes it has a legitimate chance. That being said, I’d much rather face a true talent 85 win team than a true talent 100+ win team.
  10. I guess count me in the group that isn’t ready to soil themselves over fear of the Cardinals. Aside from Adam Wainwright, Yadi Molina, and the laundry, this Cardinals team bears no resemblance to the one from 2011. History isn’t likely to repeat itself, if it was on the table I’ll gladly accept a guaranteed NLCS matchup with the Cardinals right now. The Dodgers are so far superior to even the version of this Cardinals squad that gets Jack Flaherty back. That’s the team we should be worried about facing in the playoffs, IMO.
  11. Freddy couldn’t have put that pitch on more of a tee then that. Perfectly center cut for Arenado to do damage.
  12. I have a feeling they’re going to put up some runs on Lester tonight. A lot of positive energy flowing coming into this one with the return of both Willy and Avi. Also, Escobar is better against LHP.
  13. Correct, the Wild Card teams will be seeded #4 and #5 regardless of their overall record as compared to the division winners.
  14. What am I missing here? The stats linked in the original post show batters are 24 of 95, or .252. However, the stats at the bottom show a batting average of .307. The on-base pct of .449 seems impossible based on that. Add in walks and they are 33/104, for a .318 average. Freddy would have had to hit about 30 or 40 of them to get to .449, right? If I am making some colossally stupid error, I apologize in advance. But the numbers would suggest a OPS closer to .790 than .918. Freddy's last start against STL was his first after coming off the IL. 2IP, 4 runs. Freddy's other start against the Cardinals this year, he went 7 IP with 1 hit, 1 BB, and 8 Ks. That makes me feel a lot better about tonight. Yeah, you’re correct. Something is definitely off there. I’ll see if I can figure it out later, I guess that’s what I get for trusting ESPN.
  15. Teams [and fan bases] that will be rooting for the Brewers this week: Reds Braves Phillies Padres
  16. For whatever reason the Cardinals have had Freddy’s number. They have a combined .918 OPS in 104 plate appearances against Peralta, including 6 home runs (two apiece for Arenado and Goldschmidt). Hopefully that trend reverses a bit tonight.
  17. Freddy Peralta: Batter (Cardinals) vs Pitching Stats Jake Woodford: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cardinals-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cardinals-Brewers
  18. Executives like stability. Nobody knows what Cohen will be like as an owner. The Brewers owner has had 2 GMs during his tenure and the longest tenured manager in the NL. I’m sure that stability is huge Not to mention Cohen’s off the cuff Tweeting habits are reportedly shared with one another and mocked amongst several front office executives throughout baseball. The guy has come across as being anything but stable thus far.
  19. It’s been reported the TBD is Anderson. I think they’re trying to give Burnes the extra day of rest and do whatever possible to limit him from being gassed entering October.
  20. Brewers mounting a nice 2-out rally here.
  21. Just makes it a chance for the Brewers to really damage the Cards playoff hopes and spirits. Yep, it’s going to be a fun week. Every middling team in the NL is going to be rooting for the Brewers over the next four days. Even a series split clinches the division and keeps the Cardinals from running away with the second Wild Card.
  22. If I were a Cardinal fan I'd be feeling pretty cocky about playing the Brewers 6(?) times before the end of the season. It almost seems like we're trying to coast to the finish line. But there's a bit of a hill before we get there. Keep pedaling! Sort of like how cocky Reds fans [and national pundits] were coming out of the All Star Break.
