  1. Assuming this 6-run lead holds up for the victory, the Brewers will improve to 16-1 in their last 17 day games.
  2. It would be unfortunately fitting if Nolan Arenado’s cousin, Joshua Fuentes, is now suddenly a Brewer killer. EDIT: Jinx completed
  3. It feels like Chacin has pitched more than his share of innings against the Brewers over the past 10 days.
  4. Wong’s 9th 3-hit game of the season. That’s pretty good considering he’s missed 24 games. Only Trea Turner (10) has more in the NL according to Mike Vassallo.
  5. Brewers have left a runner on base every inning so far. A total of 7 left on base through 5 innings.
  6. The Prospects Live staff held a two round mock draft via YouTube in which the team’s selections were made by various individuals that follow the draft closely and have a public presence on Twitter. Drafting for the Brewers was James Anderson. For the Brewers, Anderson made the following selections. 15th overall pick: RHP Gavin Williams, East Carolina 33rd overall pick: SS Peyton Stovall, Haughton HS 51st overall pick: LHP Robert Gasser, Houston Here is the full video of the Mock Draft as it progressed (includes lots of prospect videos along the way, but is over 4-hours)...

  8. I know a lot of people are opposed to the new extra innings rule, and I think that’s totally valid, but imagine how long this game might last if it wasn’t in place.
  9. Yes, that’s been an issue I’ve had lately with DirecTV (and same for at least a couple others I’ve asked), but it appears to only be with Bally Sports (669).
  10. A half season rental of Manny Machado in 2018 is probably the closest comparable to Trevor Story this season. It’s obviously far from a perfect comparison since there are a variety of differing factors in every such situation, but it’s similar in that contending teams were trying to acquire a half season of an All-Star caliber shortstop. The Brewers reportedly finished runner-up in the Machado sweepstakes, although it was indicated after the fact that they were a distant second to the Dodgers final offer. Machado on July 18, 2018 right after the All-Star break. Especially with the All-Star Game in Denver this year, I would be very surprised if the Rockies traded Story before that game. The five prospects Machado was traded for included outfielder Yusniel Diaz, righthanders Dean Kremer and Zach Pop, third baseman Rylan Bannon and second baseman Breyvic Valera. Diaz was ranked as Baseball America’s #47 overall prospect at the time of the trade and MLB Pipeline had him ranked as their #84 overall prospect. Diaz, who was the 4th best prospect in the Dodgers system at the time was the clear headliner as the only other prospects ranked among the Dodgers’ top 30 prospects at the time of the trade were Bannon (#27 Dodgers prospect by MLB Pipeline) and Kremer (#28 Dodgers prospect by MLB Pipeline). Looking at that return I don’t actually think one backend top 100 prospect and a bunch of fliers is that far off from what a Story rental may cost in the end. Where the Rockies writer went wrong is he compared Ethan Small to Yusniel Diaz because they were both the fourth rated prospects in their respective organizations, but the Dodgers seemingly had a stronger overall farm system in 2018 than the Brewers do now (as evidenced by Diaz’s top 100 prospect status). One tidbit that was notable from the article is the acknowledgment from the Rockies beat reporter, Nick Groke, that the Rockies fully intended to trade Story and any talk about just keeping him and taking the compensation pick is posturing on the part of their front office. Since the Rockies front office seems like a bit of a wild card, I wasn’t sure whether or not to call their bluff.
  11. Baseball America’s Mock Draft 5.0 released today has the Brewers taking OF Colton Cowser of Sam Houston State, but specifically says in the paragraphs under the selection that the Brewers have been tied to Henry Ford and that would’ve been the pick for the Crew if he hadn’t gone one pick earlier to the Giants.
  12. It mentions it’s not a perfect fit on paper, but points out the Brewers haven’t been shy about worrying less than other teams about positional designations. Compares their approach to the Dodgers of getting talent on the field and remaining flexible on specific positioning. It doesn’t state whether Adames or Story would play more 3B, but says it would likely bump Urias to a utility role for the remainder of the season (assuming everyone remains healthy).
  13. Here’s the article: Trevor Story to the Brewers? Really? Here’s how and why it just might work The article reads less as any sort of inside information, and more as pure speculation. The proposed offer/request for Trevor Story by the Rockies beat writer is LHP Ethan Small, SS David Hamilton, and OF Corey Ray. Personally I would make that deal in a heartbeat if it was the Rockies request, but I’m skeptical that would be enough for the best overall position player on the rental market.

  15. Hiura’s first fly out would’ve been a home run in 24 of 30 MLB ballparks according to the Statcast data.
  16. Ugh. I was really hoping Keston would spend a couple months down there. Recalling him now is more or less a repeat of the last go around. Hiura's all around AAA numbers are good. However, he has 26 K's in 72 AB's in AAA. Per my math that is a 36% clip. No bueno. Strikeout rate is based on plate appearances, not at bats. Hiura over this most recent stint at Triple-A struck out 13 times in 49 plate appearances. That’s a 26.5% strikeout rate over an obviously very small sample. If you add in his first trip to Triple-A this year then his strikeout rate rises to 29.2% on the season (in Triple-A). As mentioned previously, Hiura’s strikeout rate at Triple-A in 2019 prior to his call-up was 26.3%.
